2013 - 2014 Annual Fund

“Thank you for your support of Walker that has given both myself and other students the many experiences and exposures that only a Walker education can provide.”

Marguerite Bradley ‘13

Outstanding faculty. Challenging academics. Small class sizes. Award-winning fine arts and championship athletic programs. Your Annual Fund gift makes all these possible... how? Tuition alone does not cover 100% of the cost of a private education at Walker - or any independent school. Walker relies on gifts to the Annual Fund to help make up the difference. That is why your charitable contribution to the Annual Fund is the most important gift you can make to Walker.

A culture of philanthropy is at the heart of a great educational institution. Every dollar of your tax-deductible gift goes directly into the operating budget to immediately support the people and programs that make a Walker education exceptional.

Your generosity through the Annual Fund makes Walker exceptional by: • Assisting with salaries and benefits that allow us to hire and sustain a team of outstanding faculty and staff. • Funding professional development opportunities for faculty in their area of expertise. • Supporting an array of academic programs and services for all students in all divisions. • Bringing new technology, equipment, supplies and other programs to the classroom. • Providing resources, equipment and programming for Walker fine arts and athletics.

Your gift ensures a WALKER education remains superior

In 2013, 76 percent of the Advanced Placement exams taken by Walker students received a score of three or better, which is required for college credit. Twenty-one percent of Walker students scored the highest grade of a five, 29 percent scored a four, and 26 percent scored a three.

• Walker’s classes are small. The school has a low student to teacher ratio – an average of 11:1 in all divisions. •

Seventy percent of Walker’s faculty hold advanced degrees in the subject area they teach.

• Walker graduates have earned admission into the nation’s most prestigious universities: Princeton, Duke, Brown, Stanford, Dartmouth and Vanderbilt are just a few examples. •

One hundred percent of Walker graduates are accepted to a four-year college or university.

• Walker athletic teams have won eight state championships the last five years, and more than 26 overall.

• More than 130 graduates have gone on to play at the college level in 16 sports. • Walker has more than 54 teams in 16 different sports. • The Fine Arts program has received 18 Shuler Hensley nominations for its Upper School main stage musical and drama productions. • By the end of the 5th grade, every Walker student will have sung and performed in more than five major musical productions. • The Walker Chorus and Band have performed across the nation. In 2012, the band placed Best in Class at the nation-wide Festival Disney event at Walt Disney World. • Walker offers nearly 100 different extracurricular activities and clubs for students from Pre-K to Upper School.
