Fabregas litter Fabregas

Fabregas October 2010 Bombastic Shiraz x Wicked Witch ONLY two litters on this week’s Victorian Litter Registrations list, with ten pups in the first of the two litters, by Fabregas. Registered by Luv A Thrill Syndicate Manager, Tony Gordon, the five dogs and five bitches are from the beautifully bred bitch, Thriller Love (August 2011 Elite State x Brooklyn Belle), whose dam is by Where’s Pedro x Brooklyn Haze (Malawi’s Prince x Brooklyn Mist). She is from a litter of six named, who all won, Acting Up 11-3-2-0, Clawdeen Wolf 14-4-0-1, Forensics 83-12-13-17, Smooth Grin 36-3-9-7 and Sober Moment 39-11-9-6. Her contribution was 21 starts, for five wins and six placings, with two wins over 390 metres at Shepparton (22.29) and single wins over 390 metres at Ballarat (22.29), 300 metres at Healesville (16.60) and 390 metres at Warrnambool (22.06). She was trained at Kilmore, by Ronald Gilliland, for owner Sarah Bolger. *****

WAURN PONDS breeder, Val Awramenko has the other litter on this week’s list, which has six pups by the beautifully bred multiple Group race winner, Mystic Mystic Apple in action Apple (March 2008 Hallucinate x Spiral Siyan), whose dam is by Spiral Nikita* x Flight And Life (Light Of Fire x Flying Amy). On the track he raced 73 times, for 27 wins and 17 placings, with stake earnings of $258,435. He won the 2012 Group 2 Cranbourne Cup, over 520 metres (30.38) and the Group 1 Sale Cup over 650 metres (37.42), was a finalist in the 2012 Group 1 Temlee, and retired with some very smart P.B winning times, including 29.46 at Sandown, 29.84 and 34.69 at The Meadows, 25.90 at Geelong and 22.20 at Ballarat. With a record like that, it is hard to believe he only has one previous litter on file, whelped in July 2012, from Elite Scotch, with five named, who all won races. Val’s litter of three dogs and three bitches, is from the very well bred bitch, Don’s Daughter (March 2008 Bombastic Shiraz x Miss Bradman), whose dam is by Brett Lee x Gold Serenade (Golden Currency x Clare D’Loon). She is from a litter of only two named, which included Bradman’s Bomber, who raced three times, without placing. She raced 93 times, for nine wins and 23 placings, Winning five times over 460 metres at Warragul (26.40), twice over 460 metres at Geelong (26.00) and also over 550 metres at Ballarat (31.69) and 545 metres at Bendigo (31.30). She has one previous litter on file, with four dogs and three bitches, whelped in February 2015, by Go Wild Jack.

Aston Dee Bee Dazzles in the Melbourne Cup The World’s Richest Greyhound race

Aston Dee Bee

By Michael Floyd He has won 27 of his 48 starts and has been placed on ten occasions and with the $420,000 first prize for the Melbourne Cup it took his current stake earnings to $631,025. Aston Dee Bee ($2.40) secured his place in greyhound racing folklore after a brilliant victory in the $600,000 group 1 TAB Melbourne Cup last Friday night. The hulking 36kg speedster took full advantage of his inside draw, railing powerfully through the first turn to take a lead he wouldn’t relinquish, charging to the line 3½ lengths clear of the fast finishing Chasin’ Crackers ($16.40) in 29.36 and claim the world’s richest greyhound race. “Having won 10 of his previous 14 starts with those four placings being at group level, Aston Dee Bee’s win came as no surprise to many punters. He was sent to the boxes the $2.40 favourite after qualifying fastest with a brilliant heat win in 29.12, and was unbeaten in four starts from box 1 at Sandown Park. “I don’t think you can be too confident in a Melbourne Cup, but what he did is what I hoped he would do. I knew he could begin and that he could hold his spot. He’s racing so well, he’s a big strong dog he’s jumping out of his skin. “When I get home tonight and watch the replay I’m sure it will start to sink in.” His breakthrough victory at group level – he had been placed in six of his previous eight attempts in group company. After the first two placings, the field finished in the following order, 3rd Kouta Mayhem ($14.40) 4th Bewildering ($4.40) 5th Raw Ability ($5), 6th Striker Light ($13.70) 7th Aston Miley ($27.50) and Up Hill Jill ($9.30). Aston Dee Bee is raced by Ray Borda and trained by Seona Thompson of Pearcedale in Victoria. Aston Dee Bee is a Black dog whelped April 2015 by Barcia Bale from Aston Elle (Bombastic Shiraz x Elite Oriental).

The Group 1 Bold Trease Carnival Cup review is on page 19 Also highlighting Melbourne Cup night, last year’s Melbourne Cup runner-up Jesaulenko led all the way from box two and took out the Listed Cup Night Sprint in 29.56 for Terri-Maree Morris, while Shadale claimed the Group 3 Middle Distance feature the Sir John Dillon Memorial for Jim Redenbach in 34.07. TAB Melbourne Cup night was another tremendous success for the club, with a large crowd in attendance witnessing a memorable night of greyhound racing. A bold move by the club to shift the Cup from the traditional Thursday night to a Friday in 2014 and along with heats night also on a Friday as it was last year and this year it has proved the bonus it promised. The big crowd helped the Club continue to top records for TAB turnover at greyhound meetings. All forms of betting were again massive for greyhound racing and the Melbourne Cup continues to go from strength to strength as the premier event for the sport in not only the state and Australia but now worldwide. The large crowd was a fitting reward for the hardworking administration, catering, and track staff at Sandown. The Sandown team led by CEO Greg Miller introduced several changes to how Cup night is run and promoted over the last few years and the results have been stunning. The big crowd enjoyed a wonderful night of excitement and atmosphere plus a host of entertainment and action. They got what was promised, to be entertained. Greyhounds in the home CHRISTMAS WALK

Machela Gazzard (FOGAP) asks! Why is black dog syndrome even a thing?!! It makes me so mad. Our beautiful Jacko has been in foster care with us for a long time with hardly any interest at all. GAP News What greyhounds are up for adoption? In the week leading up to the event, we will publish the list of greyhounds that will be available on the day, which we will post on this page closer to the event. However, if you register prior to Saturday 2nd December, you will also receive an email by Friday 1st November, with information regarding the day which includes the list of greyhounds available.

GAP Adoption Day - Geelong Sunday 3 December 2017

Can I have a greyhound held for me and just pick up on the day? We cannot hold a greyhound(s) for you. Remember every day is an Adoption Day at GAP, so if you don’t get the greyhound you are looking for don’t worry. There are more coming through the program on a weekly basis, so the right one will come along eventually, you just need to give it time.

Got space on your couch? Christmas is nearly upon us and we may just have the pawfect companion for you to celebrate with! Another adoption day is near! This time we’re heading to the Geelong Greyhound Racing Club with trailers full of loving dogs which could be on your couch the same night... Sunday, 3 December is the date, 11AM – 1 PM. Geelong GRC Beckley Park, Broderick Rd, Corio 3214 We’ll have more than 30 dogs on-site and they are eager to find their new forever home! If you’re not ready to adopt just yet, don't worry. Come along for a pat and find out more information. We’ll have experts from GAP who can answer any question you may have. Please register by logging on http://gap.grv.org.au/events/greyhound-adoptionday/?mc_cid=5bbe540410&mc_eid=8e981c1f12 We can then send you an updated list of greyhounds available prior to the day, and keep an eye on the Greyhound Adoption Program prior to the event.

What happens if I miss out on the day? Unfortunately, we can only transport a certain number of greyhounds to these events, therefore, with the popularity of them, there is a chance you will miss out on adopting a greyhound. It is important to remember though; every day is an Adoption Day at GAP. If you don’t get the greyhound(s) you would like, don’t forget there are more coming through the program on a weekly basis. The right greyhound will come along, it just may take some time so don’t be discouraged. Where can I contact the organiser with any questions? For more information please visit the GAP Adoption Days page on our website. You can also contact us at adoptionday@grv.org.au. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? Ideally, it would be great if you did but no, you don’t need to bring your printed ticket. We can still check you in without it.

Parking is free, and refreshments are available. Please note: Unfortunately, due to high demand there will be no cat-tolerant greyhounds on the day.

Cheltenham Lass (GRV Hall of Fame)

Breeding: SIRE: Black Top DAM: Fairbairn Queen Whelped : 01/12/1964 Trainer : Paul Hogan Owners : Mrs Jean Scurrah Career Race Record : 43 starts, 16 wins, 13 placings Career Prizemoney : Unknown NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS: Winner 1965 Group 1 Laurels Runner-up 1965 Group 1 Melbourne Cup Winner 1966 Group 1 Melbourne Cup Runner-up 1966 Group 1 Australian Cup Runner-up 1967 Group 1 Australian Cup In late 1960, Lal Scurrah bought a Dasher’s BowDinah Jet female pup, later named Fairbairn Queen. And in December 1963, Fairbairn Queen was

bred with the immortal Black Top. In fact, she was the second brood matron Black Top served. These events were instrumental in the Scurrah name being associated with a champion sprinter during the 1960s. Under the expert training of Paul Hogan, Cheltenham Lass ensured her name would be preserved for posterity. Cheltenham Lass won the 1966 Melbourne Cup and finished second in the 1965 Melbourne Cup.

Also interesting is the fact that two of the top five sires are by Kiowa Mon Manny (September 2002 Flying Penske x Flying Monica K. Kiowa Mon Manny pictured here after winning the 2005 Southland Speed Derby.

His name has been called into prominence in recent weeks in Victoria through the deeds of the promising sprinter Dyna Dean (June 2015 Kiowa Mon Manny* x Prue Bale), whose dam is by Go Wild Teddy x Zambola Bale (Collision x Maple Bale). He is from a handy litter, which includes: Dyna Aviator 28-7-7-3 Dyna Bobbi 11-2-1-2 Dyna Chill 21-5-5-5 Dyna Elvio 30-5-6-2 and Dyna Funky 3-0-0-0 His contribution to the litter’s success has been 11 wins and nine placings from his 30 starts. He recently impressed with back to back wins over 600 metres at The Meadows, in the same week, which gives the impression he is headed for a staying career in the near future. Interestingly, I found out during the week that his straws were selling at $5000 last year, before the downturn in interest in breeding, during the uncertainty created by the ban fiasco in NSW and that there a few straws available at $3000 at the moment, with a free return if used within 6 months … Call Kevin on 0402644777 if you are interested, but if you are I would suggest you will need to be quick, given the current results he is achieving Australia wide. Bella Infrared* and SH Avatar*, head the list of his most successful offspring in the US and both are getting good winners here as well.

83.00

The US sires list certainly makes interesting when you look through the metropolitan results around Australia these days, DJs Octane is dominating in the US along similar lines to what Barcia Bale is doing here. He is by Flying Penske, who has had a presence in the Australian breeding scene for well over a decade now and his name continues to feature regularly in our Flying Penske (September 1997 Oshkosh Racey x review of the latest litters, almost every week. She’s A Natural). Four of the top US sires at the moment, all had Inducted into the US Greyhound Hall Of Fame - 2013 winners here in Australia last week. - 30 -
