GREYHOUND OF THE WEEK This week’s Greyhound of the week is:

ZIPPING BRUISER Bruiser gives fledging trainer first Group One in Hobart 1000 From Tasracing Website and Neil Brown

Country Victorian greyhound trainer Mathew Lanigan burst into tears when his courageous sprinter Zipping Bruiser stormed home to win the Group 1 Hobart Thousand over 461 metres at Luxbet Park Hobart on Thursday night. “I can’t believe I’ve just trained a Group 1 winner,” Lanigan said. Zipping Bruiser ($13.50) began well from box six to settle third behind the favourite, El Grand Amigo that Pic—Paul Munt began brilliantly from box one to share the lead with another interstate invader American Monster. The race changed complexion when their field wheeled for home when American Monster forged to the lead with the Ted Medhurst-trained Chief Jetpilot motoring home along the rails and looking the likely winner. But he had no answer to Zipping Bruiser’s powerful finishing burst that gave him a three-quartersof-a-length margin on the line over Chief Jetpilot ($10) with the same margin to American Monster ($3.70). Zipping Bruiser had made it four starts for four wins for the 24-year-old Swan Hill trainer who only DIDN’T take long to decide on this week’s Greyhound took up a license in September. Formerly trained in of the week. Since then he won record books last Thursday night when he stormed at Richmond, Gosford and four times at Wentworth home to win the 2016 Group 1 Hobart Thousand. He has now raced 30 times for 11 wins and nine Park with a best effort a 29.77 win in April. I’m on the phone to him for advice nearly every day, and I’ve developed a really good relationship with him and Cam Hallinan.” Zipping Bruiser is raced by the Lanigan Bruiser Syndicate and trained by Matthew Lanigan at Swan Hill, he is a Black dog whelped April 2014 by Don’t Knocka Him from Tricky Gypsy (Bit Chili x Sirocco Lass). He has won 11 and finished a place nine times from his 30 starts and with the $74,960 first prize for the Hobart 1000 it took his current stake earnings to $104,204. The Hobart 1000 is the oldest feature race final in Australia it was first run as the Hobart Cup at the old TCA circuit in 1935. The race first became known as the Hobart 1000 in 1939, it reverted back to the Hobart Cup for two years in 1942 then was not held during the war years of 1944-45 and when the race recommended in 1946 it was again known as the Hobart 1000. The most notable effort in the history of the Hobart Thousand must be the training feat of Hilda Williamson of Beaconsfield. She won back-to-back Thousands in 1961/62 with her grand bitch Ophir Doll, and just for good measure made it a hat trick with Ophir Gold in 1963. Another notable feat was that of Beaut Dina. She won the event run in 1976 and was the dam of Scene Control, which won the last ever Hobart Thousand run at the T.C.A. in 1980. Both were owned and trained by Ted and Laurie Rigby of Evandale. Arguments will always rage over the greatest dogs to win the Thousand. The best interstate chasers to gain victory would have to be Rookie Rebel (1958), Benjamin John (1969), (which ran down the immortal Zoom Top), Black Aztec (1981), and the freak Brother Fox (1985). Amongst the very best of the locals to salute would have to be Ophir Doll (1961/62), along with Royal Griffin (1978), True Vintage (1988), Bomber’s a Flyer (1996), Top Shiraz (2000) (who held off the speedster Brett Lee) and Black Caleb (2002) who defeated Melbourne Cup winner Classic Capri. Race record over the 457m trip - 2005 winner Ralph The Mouth 25.60. In 2011 the winner was Dyna Tron who was later judged the AGRA & Victorian Greyhound of the Year, he narrowly beat local champ Rewind.. Let us look at the many champions that have tasted victory in the time-honored event. It is certainly an impressive list of past winners. 1935 Elwick Boy 1936 Miafort 1937 Loch Maree 1938 On Par 1939 Mr Whackles 1940 Silver Rover 1941 Cavalry 1942 My Kenya Happy owner-trainer Matthew Lanigan with Zipping Bruiser 1943 Askalon, 1944 "Not Held" after his Hobart 1000 win

Group 1 number three for Dundee Osprey in Sale Cup By GRV Website Dundee Osprey ($2.20) (Geoff Scott-Smith) became the only greyhound currently racing with three Group 1 wins to his name when he took out last Monday night’s Group 1 Sale Cup (650m) on the opening night of greyhound racing’s brand new $800,000 Gippsland Carnival. Having won two Group 1s as a sprinter, including the prestigious Topgun at The Meadows, Dundee Osprey showed his class and versatility with an easy win by four lengths over Chrichton Bale ($13.60) (Darren Fisher) and Aston Harvey ($30.80) (Eddie Lieshout). “He has really exceeded my expectations,” ScottSmith said after the win. “It’s always nerve-wracking being in big races like this, but it’s also very rewarding.” The Pakenham south trainer will now decide whether to continue racing Dundee Osprey over longer distances or whether to drop him back to the sprint. “I’m in no real hurry to make a decision, but I’ll see how he pulls up after tonight.” “Sometimes he can pull up a bit flat because he tries so hard, so we’ll just wait and see.” Dundee Osprey is now a clear ladder leader regarding who will be crowned the Gippsland Carnival champion stayer, which incorporates supporting distance races on the nights of the Warragul Cup (January 28), Cranbourne Cup (February 11) and the Traralgon Cup (March 25). “The Gippsland Carnival is fantastic. It’s very innovative and it feels like it is getting the local community involved in greyhound racing,” Scott-Smith said. Earlier in the night Aston Bolero (Jason Thompson) won the Gippsland Sprint Launch, which was the first leg of the Gippsland Carnival sprint series. “He’s a tough dog and he loves this track,” Thompson said after the race. “Going into the race I thought it was so even, and I thought it would be a matter of which dog got the start right. Luckily for me it was Aston Bolero.” “I’ll continue to enter him for the next three sprint legs of the Gippsland Carnival.” The staying and sprint streams of the carnival boast $35,000 in bonus prize money for the best performed greyhounds.

Once again, the Sale Greyhound Racing Club was well supported by local and surrounding communities with a large crowd in attendance. After the placed runners, the field finished in the following order 4th Zipping Kane ($6.70), 5th Dewana Dimie ($24.10), 6th Ring The Bell ($4.50) 7th Aeroplane Tommy ($9.80) and Brolly Bale ($9.80). Dundee Osprey is raced and trained by Geoff Scott-Smith he is a Black dog whelped December 2013 by Fabregas from Dundee Rose (Where’s Pedro x Cora Bale). Dundee Osprey has won 17 of his 41 starts and has been placed on 12 occasions after the first prize of $75,000 for the Sale Cup it took his current stake earnings to $451,975. The seemingly bold move in 2001 to run the Sale Cup over the 630m journey, with a first prize of $20,000, produced an outstanding result with brilliant front running stayer, Bentley Babe, etching her name on the Cup Honour role. Again in 2003 a major track restructure unveiled a brand-new circuit on April 10th extensive work had been carried out after it closed in January. Under the guidance of track designer Brian Barrington Sale had an extreme makeover, with the new distances becoming 440, 520 and 650 metres. The track was also widened to 7 metres, with both straights being realigned. The Cup in 2010 became the richest country cup in Australia with a first prize of $50,000 and in 2011 it maintained its Group 1 status lifting the first prize to $75,000 which will be maintained in the future.

Special Report REMOTE CONTROL COURSING LURE TRAX 4WD modified, Soft fat tyres, sound attracter, toy tow bar, 100kph This car is not a small cheapie, the car is TRAX 4WD Truck, however Graham Moscow from Greyhound Gear calls it car. The car must be safe and big enough so pups can't drag off to the dam. Theory is to course pups three to six months in a pack, a maximum of four to five times. Elite State lodge have coursed five litters this year and found this method works 100% Pups that chased in pack were all easy break ins. Wheeler kennels purchased a car and Brendan Wheeler said he was very happy with it. Longwood trainer Michael Barry has just ordered a car and Greyhound Gear are currently modifying it for him. Graham has a video of pups chasing the car, which he will email the link to, if you contact him. I have had a look at the video and it won’t take long to convince you what a fantastic product this is, and just how keenly the pups chase after it. Looks certain to be a valuable tool for breeders to educate their young pups with, and from the look of it, it will make the breakers job much easier when the pups go to him, or if you are breaking your own pups in. Why not give Graham a call and have a chat with him about this amazing product. He can then answer any of your question, discuss pricing options, delivery time etc.
