Loan Client: Luniga

Luniga lives in Nakifuma, Uganda and is a client with JENNIS Finance Company. JENNIS, a client of Tricord, is a Christian-based Microfinance Company in Uganda, which specializes in micro-finance loans and business training. JENNIS provides loans and training to small business groups in the rural areas of Uganda.

Luniga has been a client with JENNIS for seven years and has received eleven loans throughout those years. Her smallest loan was $1,500.00 and her largest loan was $3,000.00. Her story is quite remarkable and she was able to share it with us on our most recent trip to Uganda.

Luniga started out by selling water in the local market. After receiving her loans and business training, she was able to build a house for her family and was able to “build a borehole,” or drill a well, and has continued to sell and provide potable drinking water to the people in her community. She has been able to expand her businesses to include a poultry business and she owns two clothing boutiques, both of which have been in operation for three years.

Lugina was a Muslim when she started with JENNIS. When the credit officer would give her money, she would pray for Lugina and she eventually led Lugina to faith in Christ. Since becoming a Christian and a client of JENNIS, she has become the representative for many women in the area where she lives, which is equivalent to what we know in the states as a county commissioner. Lugina also helps orphans in her community through the profits of her business.

This is just one example of the thousands of individual clients who are helped and trained through Tricord’s investments. Individuals who come to faith in Christ become economically active and establish profitable businesses. Through their profits, they make an impact on their communities and a difference in the lives they touch and influence.
