Alf Museum Endowment Continues to Grow

Support for the Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology has grown steadily in recent years, and the 2021-22 fiscal year brought in some of the largest gifts to the museum endowment to date. Museum Trustee, and daughter of Webb alumnus George Whitney ’31, Terry Baganz and her husband Bruce established the Olive W. and Bruce P. Baganz Fund for Geology at the museum in November 2021. This fund will provide perpetual support for geology-focused museum programs. Fieldwork, museum classroom technology and resources, visits to other natural history institutions and outreach with an emphasis on the study and practice of geology will all be provided for by this new endowed fund. "We can't understand past life unless we fully understand the rocks our fossils are found in. This new fund will elevate our ability to teach geological concepts in our museum classes and outreach program, and support cutting-edge research in the lab and the field,” says Dr. Andy Farke, Museum Director. Museum endowment giving also expanded through gifts to the Donald L. Lofgren Endowed Director’s Chair Fund. Established in 2019 by Kenneth De Nault ’61, the Lofgren Director’s Chair supports the Museum Director position and was created in honor of Dr. Don Lofgren. Since 2019, the fund has received more than 40 gifts from alumni, parents, and friends across the decades. The Fund doubled in size this last year thanks in part to generous lead gifts by Museum Trustee, James Hall ’59 and his wife Jean, and the estate of Samuel Zemurray, III ’61. Gifts made to the endowment become a permanent and critical revenue source for the operating budget for the Alf Museum. For more information about supporting the Raymond M.
