ashley, from longview, and Peter, from denver felt an instant connection when they met during a ski trip to Colorado. Peter had been skiing and lost his keys somewhere in the snow. He had been stranded on top of a mountain for awhile and was seeking warmth by a fire when ashley met his gaze as she was skiing through the area. Being a bold, curious, compassionate texan, she struck up a conversation and kept him company. after a long conversation – and some singing – they knew they were meant to be. they returned to their respective homes after that trip, but knew they had formed a bond that neither time, nor hardship, nor distance could break. ashley and Peter went on with their lives, always keeping in touch and never losing hope of somehow reuniting and living happily ever after. after living states away, their dream finally became

a reality this year. their outdoor vintage, distance-themed wedding was everything they had dreamed. antique doors were fashioned for the outdoor ceremony, wildflowers were used in the bouquets and along the aisles and the guestbook was wrapped with twine around a large oak tree in the form of Polaroid photos. the reception had a “vintage travel” theme and was held in an old barn. Suitcases, antique phones, maps, typewriters and old postcards decorated the interior – all things that reminded the happy couple of the way they communicated through their distance. the guests made paper airplanes and threw them as ashley and Peter made their entrance as a married couple. the fun continued with dancing to a full jazz band playing oldies. the newlyweds are now residing in denver beginning their long awaited happily ever after.

Rachel Davis, an elementary school teacher and mother to a beautiful 6-yearold, took a new teaching position with one of Drew Barkley’s best friends. Rachel and Drew met through a quick, informal introduction at a basketball event. Months later, Rachel was still on Drew’s mind so he called her to invite her for a cup of coffee. From then on, the two were inseparable. After their engagement and setting a wedding date, Rachel and Drew learned that in Drew’s family there was also another Rachel Barkley who married

Drew’s great grandfather. Drew shares his great grandfather’s first name, William Andrew V and Rachel Davis Barkley were the second set of “William and Rachel Barkley’s” to be married. They also shared wedding dates, the first couple being married on June 9, 1927, holding their wedding on “Davis” Creek in West Virginia. Rachel Davis and William Andrew Barkley were married on June 9, 2012, 85 years later. In many fun ways Rachel and Drew knew they were each other’s perfect match.

The Third Annual March of Dimes “Signature Chef’s Auction” was held on September 25, 2012 at The Cascades Golf Club which was transformed into a beautiful array of purples, gorgeous and unique flower arrangements and the smell of delicious foods mingled together. The very scrumptious event brought together foodies and local chefs to raise money for the March of Dimes whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Locally, the March of Dimes helps moms take charge of their health and supports families when something goes wrong with their baby. The Cascades Golf Club Executive Chef Keith Harlan hosted the event and Culinary Event Chair was Lisa Bowman of Adalante Catering Company, Inc. Sheriff J.B. Smith and Doc Deason both provided witty entertainment as the Master of Ceremonies and for the event’s live auction. Tyler Uplights provided the unique effects. Guests enjoyed wine from Kiepersol Enterprises and Pierre De Wet. Sandra McNeese and Joel Dryer of The Wedded Bliss attended the event. “The magazine was delighted to participate in the event. We photographed the dishes from each caterer and took part in the food tasting. The atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable. The flower arrangements were unique and different, “ says Sandra McNeese. “You can sure appreciate and respect the creativeness of the event.” The Wedded Bliss was excited to learn of the winners for Best Caterer and Best Florist, also Best of the Bliss, Adalante Catering, Lisa and Whit Bowman and Brosang’s Flowers, Michael and Julie Brosang. Q

A BEAUTY ADDICT’S INPUT ON MAKE UP, STYLE & WELLNESS

Dear Von, For my winter wedding I want to wear red lipstick. However, every time I try a crimson shade, I can’t seem to keep it looking fresh. The color gets splotchy and smears off my lips. I’ve tried different lip liners but nothing seems to help. Are there any brands you recommend that will give me a more lasting color? Angela Lynn - Longview,TX

Dear Winter Bride, The choice to wear red is challenging and rewarding. A bold scarlet lip is a classic look you will appreciate for years to come. The challenges you described are all too common. “Feathering” or “bleeding” refers to the tendency of lipstick to seep into the tiny wrinkles and crevices around the mouth. Feathering ages a lady and has a tendency to make you look like you’ve had a cocktail too many. The key to lasting red lips is good technique rather than any one brand. And while we’re at it, let’s give the illusion of fuller lips with some color variation.

STEP 5.

Gently blot your lips using a paper towel. Tissue can leave behind lint.

STEP 6.

Using a flat, rounded eyeshadow brush, lightly apply translucent powder to the inner 1/3 of your lips, carefully avoiding the outer part of you lip. This step sets the color and gives you a lightened tone to the center of your mouth creating the illusion of fuller lips.

HERE IS A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO A DIMENSIONAL RED LIP.

“THE KEY TO LASTING RED LIPS IS

STEP 1.

Apply your favorite chap stick at least 20 minutes before you apply your lip color. I prefer something that is Vitamin E based.

STEP 2.

After blotting off any remaining lip lubricant, use a wedge sponge to press translucent powder on the lip area. Focus the application to the area where the lip meets the skin. This step is designed to control “feathering” or “bleeding “lips.

GOOD TECHNIQUE RATHER THAN ANY ONE BRAND.”

STEP 3.

Next, choose a lip liner that is at least two shades darker than your chosen red lipstick. For a deep cherry red, I’m demonstrating with a brown eye liner. The bulk of your time should be used on this step. This initial line must be straight. Steady hand not your thing? Rather than attempting one perfect line, draw a series of dots along the lip line. Then connect the dots to create your perfect perimeter.

STEP 4.

Apply the lipstick using a brush. With downward strokes, use the creamy texture of the lipstick to blend the liner downward towards the center of you lip.

STEP 7.

Lip gloss will replenish the moisture and also helps to blend the colors. With a clear or nude gloss, use your finger to apply a tiny amount to the inner 1/3 or your lips. Too much gloss will ruin this look. Goopy gloss will mute the effect of your dimensional red lip and can lead to feathering.

Peace & Lipstick,

remind us of our childhood, those are the most comforting foods of all. One great tradition that’s been passed down through generations is bread pudding…simple, classic, yet oh so easy. Ages ago, it originated as a way to use leftover or stale bread; modern versions have become much more luxurious. There are many variations of bread pudding, but all use a combination of milk, eggs, sugar, spices, a little bit of fruit (usually raisins), and of course, stale or toasted bread. Ingredients that are as simple as those days gone by. Even though our ancestors used stale or leftover bread to make their pudding, it doesn’t mean you have to. Any bread can become ‘stale’ with a warm oven in a very short amount of time. You can even get creative and use French bread (which is what this recipe originally called for), brioche, or if calories are not a problem, donuts! Yes, there is a recipe out there for Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding! Are you wondering how stale bread mixed with ‘pudding’ (milk, sugar and eggs) can be so incredibly scrumptious? The thought of soaking bread in milk used to sound a bit unappetizing to me as well, but if you’ve ever had good bread pudding you won’t really care what it was soaked in! The trick to making this recipe is in toasting the bread before preparing the ‘pudding’. Toasting not only helps remove any remaining moisture from your fresh OR stale bread, but it adds flavor to the final product as well. We also use apples in ours, instead of the traditional raisins. If you are a diehard raisin fan, by all means use raisins…we prefer apples. That’s the joy of cooking, be flexible with it and don’t be afraid to customize recipes to your liking.
