Milton, ON was the location for Jake & Corynn’s wedding day. Corynn says,“Jake and I are very down to earth people with country roots. It’s where we feel most at home. We always wanted a barn wedding, and this place is on the escarpment with 80+ acres of heritage sites (old Ford service station, old barns and old tractors, a little white chapel etc.). “We were referred to Latte from a number of couples; my cousin, and two sets of our friends who got married in the months prior to our wedding. They were so reasonably priced and their work was so beautiful, it was a no-brainer for us. Jenn and Justin were incredible to work with. They were so fun and made everything seem substantially less awkward than some of the poses were. They were so wonderful that they even made sure to get nearly every photo I wanted from a Pinterest board. They made my dream photos a reality. My favourite part of the photos was probably just how fun they were. The laughter in our photos are real because they became a part of the day, not just a vendor.” - C & J

BRIDE & GROOM: Jake & Corynn Shoemaker WEDDING DATE: Wednesday, October 5th, 2016 “It was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Jake and I knew that this was a long shot for people to get the time off work, but let me tell you, only 10 people declined...people were so happy to have a reason to take a mid-week break or tie it into an extra-long weekend.” - C THEME: Rustic, elegant, country: “Everything took place in this gorgeous pine barn. It kept everything very central and much easier for both our guests and us. It was still a formal wedding...[but also] really laid back and easy going.” - C FLORAL DESIGN: From the Potting Shed (fromthepottingshed.com) in Cambridge, ON. DÉCOR: Jake and his Mother did almost all of the decorating! Corynn says, “We used a slew of items from around my grandma’s farm and...from the dollar store (fall leaf garlands, tall vases for our bouquets etc.) Signs were from a great little shop called From the 12th Line (www.fromthe12thline. ca)... She does amazing work and she made almost every barn board sign at our wedding to add a rustic feel.” - C
DIY PROJECTS: The Seating plan (old four-pane windows with guest list transferred onto the glass), the wooden slabs for the centerpieces were cut, sanded and varnished by Jake, the table runners were partially borrowed and partially made by the bride and groom, and arbour décor was done by Jake’s Mother. FAVOURS: “We bought some Mennonite maple syrup, filled small jars, covered with a burlap top and a small tag that said ‘Love is Sweet – Jake & Corynn Shoemaker – October 5th, 2016’” - J&C GROOMSMEN & GROOM’S ATTIRE: Tip Top Tailors, Cambridge (tiptoptailors.ca) BRIDESMAIDS ATTIRE & ACCESSORIES: David’s Bridal, Cambridge (davidsbridal.ca) BRIDE’S ATTIRE: Essense of Australia gown from Taylor’s Bridal Boutique, Elmira (taylorsbridal.com) “They had to specifically order the dress for me. I don’t know if it’s necessarily a memory, but more of a feeling. The feeling of being surrounded by everyone we love and knowing that our love was the reason that everyone was together. That was pretty special.” - C ADVICE, ONE COUPLE TO ANOTHER: “Planning a wedding is hard: stressful, exciting and terrifying. No one tells you that it’s okay to feel crazy and actually means it. Just don’t get lost in the crazy. Don’t get caught up in the drama. If you have to make a hard decision now, to improve your wedding day, do it...And breathe. When you feel overwhelmed, just breathe. FANSHAWE IN THE FALL BRIDE & GROOM: Ange (DeVincenzo) & Owen Somerville WEDDING DATE: October 8th, 2016 CEREMONY & RECEPTION LOCATIONS: Fanshawe Pioneer Village, London (♥) (fanshawepioneervillage.ca). “This venue is beautiful. We opted to have our ceremony at the gazebo, rented a beautiful clear tent lit up with mini-lights, from Big Top Tents, London (bigtoptents.com) for our meal, and had a wild dance party in the onsite barn!! It was perfect! My husband and I wanted an outdoor fall wedding. I researched outdoor wedding locations in and around London and found out that the Pioneer Village did weddings. The photos online were absolutely beautiful. We made an appointment to go onsite and have a look. We immediately fell in love, and booked it.” - A&O 16 • The Wedding Ring Magazine { ONTARIO } www.theweddingring.ca
DESIGN PALETTE: A rustic chic wedding inspired by the venue and Fall/Thanksgiving time of year, incorporating orange, brown, red and cream colours. FLOWERS: McLennan Flowers, Lambeth (mclennanflowers.com). “I chose orange spray roses and red berries. The owner of McLennan Flowers is a family member and wonderful person.” - A DÉCOR: “My decorator is a very close friend. Her name is Sarah Rankin, and her company is SJR Design. She is an interior designer/consultant. Most décor was handmade by Sarah. We used a lot of wood, twine, mason jars and wine bottles, pumpkins, hay, corn stalks, Edison lights, I could go on and on .. it was incredible!!” - A FAVOURITE DÉCOR ELEMENTS: “My favourite décor elements were our centrepieces, completely handmade, and the rustic vineyard chairs, rented from A&B Party Rental, London (a-bpartyrental. com). Our entire wedding was a DIY project!” Ange
told her decorator that she wanted a rustic chic fall themed wedding, with lots of wood and we went from there. “She would send me numerous ideas based on what I told her I wanted, and I would tell her which I liked. She would then source the items required and make the decorations, sending me pictures every step of the way to ensure my approval.” - A PLANNING CHALLENGES: “We live in Toronto and I am from London. We decided to get married in London, which means that I employed trusted family and friends to represent us in London in our absence. We made the decision to hire as many family and friends as possible; our London ‘Project Manager’ was my brother-in-law, our decorator my very close friend, our photographer is a friend who already did our Maternity and Newborn photo shoots, the DJ was my cousin, and a couple of live
songs were sung by friends, including our MCs (one of which is Taz from The Taz Show on FM96, who has been one of my close friends since high school)... It was truly a family affair!!” - A FAVOURS: Delicious home made raspberry jam preserves! GROOM’S & GROOMSMEN ATTIRE: The groom wore a navy tux with an ivory shirt, long orange tie, vest and pocket square with a green and ivory lapel pin, brown shoes and striped socks. The groomsmen wore navy blue tuxes with ivory shirts, long ties, orange accents, brown shoes and striped socks. Fathers wore classic black tuxes with ivory shirts and striped socks. WEDDING DRESS: The bride’s look was 1940’s Hollywood Glamour inspired. Her gown was an ivory coloured, French lace and French silk, fit-toflare Paloma Blanca 2016-17 design. She wore a birdcage veil with a side-swept up-do. Jewelry was delicate. Shoes were neutral coloured, brushed satin and rhinestone, kitten heel slingbacks. GOLD, BLACK & A TOUCH OF SPARKLE BRIDE & GROOM: Chelsey Orphan & James Wheeler WEDDING DATE: October 22nd, 2016 LOCATION: Revival House, Stratford (♥) (revival.house)
“We fell in love with this venue the first time we walked through their door. They offered everything in one location. We loved their cathedral ceilings, stained glass windows, organ bar and amazing food! The staff were so friendly from the first moment we met and did everything they could to accommodate us. Alysha, the wedding coordinator, really was the final check on our list. Her charming personality and attention to detail let us know from day one that she was on our side and was as excited about the wedding as we were!” - C&J COLOUR PALETTE: Gold, black, white & sparkle! THEME: “We wanted a day full of class and elegance...think ‘Hollywood Glam’ or ‘Great Gatsby’. I personally love twinkly lights and sparkles so we made sure to add elements throughout the venue. strings of lights, candles and marquee letters. Everything was gold and sparkly and glowing!” - C PHOTOGRAPHY: Behind The Scenes Photography, London (medium.com/shooting-behind-the-scenes) FLOWERS: Online American company, Eco Flower (ecoflower.com) and Lyric Flowers, St. Mary’s (lyricflowers.ca) Chelsey is not a huge flower fan, so she knew she didn’t want to spend loads of money on florals. She explains, “I spent a lot of time researching online and came across Eco Flowers. They are an online store from the United States that sells wooden flowers made from recycled and sustainable materials or sola wood. You have to see them to understand! Pretty much every wedding decision we made was based on ‘What would be less stressful?’ so flowers that won’t wilt, break or need to be delivered last minute was an easy choice! I also loved that it was unique and most of all that everyone could keep their flowers forever... We wanted to class up the flowers even more so we contacted a highly recommended flower shop in St. Mary’s, Lyric Flowers, to add some
finishing touches. They created all our boutineers and corsages from loose wood flowers and added leaves and wraps to the bouquets. They finished them off perfectly and really made them something incredible and unique.” - C DÉCOR: “Between us, my mom (our wedding planner) and Alysha, we handled everything on our own. Revival House is so gorgeous that I felt it only needed a little bit of decorating. We just brought in a couple finishing touches!” - C DIY PROJECTS: Chelsey is a graphic designer and was able to create all the printed elements such as table numbers and signs herself. She says, “We also did the invitation packages, table cloths, seating chart and info board. I personally found that the most stressful part of the wedding was the DIY projects. They ended up being more trouble than anything else and cost way more time and money than anticipated. I love how they turned out but for me personally, I learned to do anything DIY early and keep it to a minimum!” - C
FAVOURITE THINGS “We found an adorable idea for table number centerpieces. We put a photo of the bride and groom at each age that corresponded with the table number. Guests loved it! We loved having a sweetheart table for just us. It gave us time to eat and also enjoy each other’s company. We could see all of our guests enjoying the night and felt like we were with them all.” - C&J CAKE: Kandy’s Cakes, Stratford (bit.ly/ KandysCakes) Delicious carrot cake. Her expertise showed when she gave suggestions that turned a nice dress into something better than my wildest dreams! My friend gave me the best advice... to sit down right at the beginning with your fiance and decide what on your wedding day is the most important to you and then let everything else go.” -C BEST MEMORIES: “The look of love and pride on my fiance’s face when he first saw me. She is really talented, and I liked her adventurous ideas. Some of my favourite shots are from a large bridge under an overpass. Kelly had us climb up on ladders to get the perfect shot and it was so worth it! She was organized and kept the family and group photos on schedule. Dan and I chose to do a “First Look” so we were able to get most of our pictures done before the ceremony - this way we could mingle with our guests at cocktail hour. CEREMONY & RECEPTION LOCATION: Rebel Creek Golf Course (♼) (golfrebelcreek.ca) in Petersburg, Ontario, just minutes from Kitchener. From the waterside patio ceremony, cocktail hour and photos on the green to a gorgeous reception with food to die for and a dance floor that was filled all night, Rebel Creek Golf Course made it possible for Nicole & Scott to have the timeless, classic wedding day they were dreaming of.
BRIDE & GROOM: Nicole Vander Meulen & Scott Campbell WEDDING DATE: August 6th, 2016 COLOUR PALETTE: Aqua blue, white & grey. THEME: Simple, classy, romantic, timeless. basketball arcade game) to keep people out of their seats and interacting with other guests...In the end, the games did get played, but the dance floor was much busier than expected thanks to the DJ!” -N&S

They were also fun to work with and made us feel more comfortable in front of the camera. Our favourite part of our photos was that they were able to capture everyone’s emotions in the photos without being staged. They were also able to pull us aside from the reception to capture beautiful photos of us by the sunset.” -N&S BIGGEST CHALLENGE: “If it was important, we did the best we could to find alternatives or search for the best deals. Overall, we got creative and did a great job staying within our budget. This before and after look at the Mitchell Community Centre is proof that a high quality decorator like Devine Wedding Design (DWD) (♥) (devineweddingdesign.ca) is the key to transforming any blank slate type of venue space into your dream wedding location. Curve Hair Studio (♥) (curvehairstudio.com) styled the bride and her bridemaids. They explain, “Wedding styles are becoming more organic and romantic in the sense that brides want to see more textures, soft natural tones, and lots of personal touches and DIY for their special day. Jacqueline was no different; she had her wedding at her family home surrounded by forest and beautifully manicured gardens. She wanted her style of rustic elegance to translate through her hair and make up to create an effortless and enchanted look. Natural textures are a main focus for each of the ladies, making formal updos into a romantic touchable style. Twists and braids are a great addition for texture, movement, and personality within each style, especially when there are few or no hair accessories. Jacqueline’s hair piece and the flower girl’s floral crown were created by the bride and help to tie in the textures from the bouquets to the overall bridal feel. Similar to wedding updo trends, make up styles have shifted from a lot of glitz and glam to more soft, charming, natural styles with muted tones. A lot of what the girls requested was the smokey eye effects using matte greys, browns and blush with winks of gold and pink shimmers. The focus of the make up is to draw the eye to theirs using bold lashes and winged liners. Soft pinks and nudes on the lips to maintain a glowing fresh look without pulling your attention away from the enchanting eyes. The rustic elegance trend celebrates natural beauty using textures, colour, and details to enhance instead of obscure.”

No one will notice except for you if something doesn’t turn out exactly as planned. It was pouring rain up until an hour before our outdoor ceremony. We couldn’t put out as many decorations as we had planned for, but no one knew any different and the rain made the gardens so much more green and beautiful. In hindsight we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.” - J • GET LOCAL. PLAN FABULOUS! • 39
