It’s all in the destination BY MARIA PREKEGES

I

t’s one of the most important days in a couple’s life – their wedding day. The bride and groom want to make it special, not only for themselves but for their family and guests. Most people want their wedding to be in a magical place, a place that’s close to their hearts, a place like our own Wood River Valley. The Sun Valley area is a wonderful place to get married and many choose the area for their nuptials. Whether someone currently lives in the Valley or has

visited before, Sun Valley provides the backdrop and the activities for guests to enjoy. The Huffington Post reported, “The standard wedding lasts for five hours, and the bride and groom spend most of that time running from table to table, trying to say hello to everyone. A destination wedding spans a minimum of three days – which means, now that you’ve finally gotten your nearest and dearest Continued DESTINATION Page 4

Hot off the runway BY YANNA LANTZ

New York’s Bridal Fashion Week and celebrity looks on the red carpet have inspired many of 2016’s wedding dress trends. Although the classic white ball gown will always be a standard, several other styles have been featured from multiple de-

signers as the hot looks for this year’s brides. “The market’s trends are actually very wearable,” says Elle Strauss, the fashion director at “Brides” magazine. “There’s Continued DRESS TRENDS Page 4

A PERFECT RANCH RETREAT

L

ava Lake Ranch sits between the dramatic Pioneer Mountains and the wild and rugged lava flows of Craters of the Moon National Monument. Here in this small valley, verdant green alfalfa fields set off the softer hues of the surrounding sagebrush-dotted landscape. Completely private, with no through road, the ranch is a peaceful haven where the sounds are birdsong, the baaing of sheep, and the wind in the trees. A small herd of pronghorn makes its summer home at the ranch, and hundreds of elk can be seen in the fall and winter. Long a getaway for the ranch’s owners, the Lava Lake Ranch Retreat is now available to guests for weddings, retreats, family reunions, dinner parties or simply a night of comfortable camping

with friends and family. The Retreat sleeps eight comfortably, and provision can be made for additional overnight guests if desired. Our beautiful Clydesdale mares, Sophie and Lacey, are available for carriage rides around the ranch or to transport a bridal party and guests to the wedding site. Hiking and bird-watching opportunities abound and, in season, guests may pick fresh greens from our garden, cherries and apples from the trees, and gather eggs from our chickens. A stay at Lava Lake is a unique opportunity to experience life on a working ranch, enjoy the wilderness of Idaho with the comforts of upscale camping, and celebrate life’s joyous occasions. really something for everyone.” The most popular look to appear in designers’ Fashion Week collections was white dresses with 3-D floral appliqués. These beautiful embellishments help transform a more traditional romantic gown into a modernized and feminine classic. Fashion leaders Oscar de la Renta, Christos Costarellos and Jenny Packham each featured multiple looks with 3-D floral appliqués, including sheer laser-cut appliqués and shimmering textured adornments. Illusion bodices also dominated the catwalk at Fashion Week and were seen on many trend-setting celebrities, such as Beyoncé, over the last year. Designers such as Hayley Paige and Tara Keely are pushing the envelope with full-on illusion bodices. With sexy sheer-tops featuring lace appliques (in just the right places) and tightly woven lace bodices with layers of nude lining, these dresses are intriguing and romantic. The key is finding a dress “that tastefully accentuates your best assets,” Strauss says. “Many of the retail versions of these dresses are lined, so you can get the illusion of nude without actually being nude,” Strauss says. Harkening back to the glamorous glory days of Hollywood, feathers played a big role in many of the industry’s new collections. Feathers found their way into the collections of industry heavy-hitters like Lela Rose, Jenny Packham, Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang and Marchesa, in the form of fluttery skirts, bodices with Old World flair, and short, sassy, reception-ready dresses. Two necklines stole the show at Fashion week: keyhole necks and the plunging neckline. The keyhole neck creates the elegance of a high neck but the sexiness of a plunging neckline. This cutout was seen in many collections, but most prominently in the lines of Angel Sanchez, Hayley Paige

Feathers were seen in the collections of industry heavy-hitters like Lela R

and Ines Di Santo. From the red carpet to the bridal runway, plunging necklines have always been popular. This revealing neckline took multiple sexy forms this season, through the deep-V look and the less severe scalloped slit. “Plunging necklines were included in so many ultra-sexy designs, with some designers leaving very little to the imagination,” says

the Corinthia Lo blog. “If not a p neckline to show ed a slightly incre Lastly, the thig inent mark in m cut shows off leg and pays homage standout designer

together, you can actually spend quality time with them.” Part of the joy of a destination wedding is showing off a place that is special to both the bride and the groom. Guests who live in the area most likely live here because they love it, and out-of-town guests get to experience the beauty that is Sun Valley, as well as all that the area has to offer outside of the wedding activities. Tom Kennedy and Amy Spain decided to get married in Sun Valley for a few reasons; Tom had lived in the Valley for 18 years and it was the place where the two met. But it was much more than that, as the couple explains. “The warmth of the town, the natural beauty all around, the variety of activities for both young and older folks, the selection of accommodations to fit various budgets, the great restaurants and nightlife – these things all made it the perfect choice for us.” If a bride or groom live in the Valley, it’s fairly easy to get help in planning the big day, as well as activities surrounding the event, but even if you live afar, Tom and Amy found the planning easy. “We didn’t live in Sun Valley when we were married so we had to rely heavily on the various vendors for guidance in both Courtesy photo by Kat Cannell the planning stages and on the actual wedding day. The community of wonderful and talented people who The Valley offers exceptional settings for any wedding. helped us pull it all together from afar was invaluable.” There was truly something for everyone. “We had all ages at the wedding and different things appealed to different people. Many loved the ‘old Hollywood history’ of Sun Valley, visiting the beautiful Lodge, enjoying the many art galleries downtown. Others took advantage of all of the outdoor activities that the area has to offer in June, including hiking, biking, and day trips to Stanley and Redfish.” Tom and Amy’s guests that came from afar generally came for four to five days. The couple did have some pre-arranged activities, but left a lot of free time for their guests to explore and enjoy the area. “Everyone raved about the town and the area; many told us they wanted to return.” The couple is not alone in proposing Sun Valley for a wedding destination, as many others have had wonCourtesy photo by Dev Khalsa derful experiences just like theirs. “We’d do it all over tws Rugged mountaintops make a great backdrop for romance. again and wouldn’t change a thing!”

would like to welcome the community to The Ellsworth Inn. The Ellsworth Inn is a place to welcome your family and friends. Throw a party, entertain large numbers of guests, or simply book a room for those traveling into town for a visit or special event. I will cook them a warm homemade breakfast and make them feel like they have arrived home. While The Ellsworth Inn is 112 years old – built in 1913 – it offers warmth and comfort you would expect from one of the best bed-and-breakfast places in Idaho. If you wish you had more room in your home or office to entertain guests, look no further than The Ellsworth Inn. We have the space to entertain your guests, and will do so graciously. In case you didn’t already know, The Ellsworth Inn has nine bedrooms! Two of the bedrooms are suites; one is a honeymoon or anniversary suite with a live fireplace while the other is a ground-floor suite that accommodates pets as well. There are two spacious rooms with kingsized beds – one with a gas fireplace, the other with a day bed in the room for guests with older children.

The Inn also has a perfect room for older tweens and teens – the Camas Prairie – complete with twin sleigh beds. We have two rooms on the third floor with queen-sized beds that are less expensive – both lovely and welcoming rooms. Lastly, we have two more rooms with queen-sized beds on the second floor. One has a beautiful view with an oversized bathtub, and the other is cool and quiet with a separate vanity and shower room. You truly will feel like you are coming home when you come to The Ellsworth Inn. The Ellsworth Inn is located at 702 South 3rd Avenue in Hailey. Contact us at 208.788.6354 or visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ellsworthestateinn. Drop by, come in for a goodie, and let’s have a chat! I am happy to show you around and share with you this great space we have for parties and events where everyone can afford to book. The Inn is great for family reunions (enjoy breakfast and full use of the house and yard). Mention this article and I will give you $50 off your wedding or 10 percent off your event.
