ow they’re back at school and we can finally shut the hotel for kids we’ve apparently been running all summer around here, maybe we can get on to answering some serious questions. First: To let the kids bring their devices out to restaurants … or not? We recently had dinner with ours at the pub. We do that often enough because we’re not stupid. We wouldn’t take them anywhere where there are tablecloths. As it happens though, and as usually happens, we spent the better part of the night trying to amuse them with Chinese whisper games and promises to one day take them to Disneyland if they stayed on their seats, just so we could get through dinner before they started wandering/fighting/asking for money for the pinball machine/M&M dispenser/bar. Then, just as I finished gulping down a pretty ordinary marinara, which I was at least partially grateful for because it didn’t originate from my own kitchen, I noticed them. In the corner. This nicely dressed family of four. But here’s the thing – the adults were enjoying a glass of wine, which we were also doing but more in a manner that has been known to cause digestive type issues later in the night. Unlike us, this couple were smiling at each other, making meaningful eye contact and chatting freely like they were alone, unencumbered, uninterrupted by hiccupping offspring who really, really want to go home now and can they have an ice-cream on the way. They were able to do this because both their kids were head down, thumbs up on their electronic devices. It was as if they weren’t even there. Who wins this one? The kids or the parents? The kids
get to eat chips and create avatars and kingdoms and the parents get to finish a parmigiana and a sentence – so both, maybe. A more peaceful dining tableau I have not seen around these here parts, because we generally don’t encourage the use of devices in public places, or forget to bring them, I’m not sure which is more the thing. Yet at that moment, while negotiating to quickly leave the table to go to the loo and be back in time before the younger one did a runner for the television in the front bar, it did occur to me this other family had it all sorted. And yet, I would also like to think my kids might one day grow up recognising what the actual real world looks like, and be able to sit at a table and hold a knife and fork while also speaking. Sometimes I feel like I’m fighting a losing battle with the younger one at least, who eats dinner like she’s in a marathon race towards the sweet treat at the end and really does prefer to use her hands as cutlery and my clothes as a napkin. But I keep trying, because sitting at the table both and speaking was a fundamental part of my upbringing. It may well be boring when kids were head down, you’re eight, but it’s excellent fun when you’re a grown-up. thumbs up And I recently noticed a 20-something at a café who was using her knife like a fork and vice versa. I realised you can do all sorts of things in life to hide a lack of social training, but if you can’t manage cutlery the right way you’re a goner. \ khall@theweeklyreview.com.au WE WELCOME YOUR FEEDBACK @

letters to the editor BETTER SERVICE THE KEY The Taxi Services Commission – the industry watchdog in Victoria – is pushing ahead with legal action to try to shut down Uber. The TSC hopes to have repeat offenders (Uber drivers previously fined) fined and convicted – setting a precedent that would potentially shut down Uber in the state. If I need a “taxi”, I now use Uber. It’s cheaper, quicker, the cars are generally cleaner and the drivers more friendly. It’s a pity the TSC doesn’t spend money on providing a better service rather than legal action. SARAH THOMAS \ NORTH GEELONG

MESSAGE IS CLEAR It’s too late for the five young people who died in the horrific car crash on the Princes Highway in 2012. MARK BARKER \ GEELONG WEST BACK TO SCHOOL … & SPEEDING School is back … and so are the speeders. Just about anywhere in Geelong, numerous drivers ignore the 40km/h zones. But the Princes Highway/Latrobe Terrace stretch near Ryrie Street is the worst. It’s hard to stick to the reduced speed limit as other cars, trucks and even buses race up behind the few law-abiding drivers and switch lanes to get around them. The police need to spend a few days there with a speed camera. GARY THOMAS \ HERNE HILL

long time. Great news for most of us – and the chance to hit the mortgage or top up the superannuation. It’s a different story for some, though; as a self-funded retiree, the ever-decreasing interest rate continues to eat into my retirement funds. For some of us, that will eventually mean going on to the pension. That’s a further drain on the government’s coffers. In the end, someone always pays. FRED ARCHER \ GROVEDALE

t’s alarming that almost 100 people go missing in Australia every day … that’s more than 35,000 a year, including almost 9000 Victorians. While most are found within hours or days, about 1600 remain missing after more than six months. It’s nothing short of heartbreaking for the families involved, including several in Geelong. It’s been two years this month since Bannockburn mother Lorrin Whitehead disappeared, while Andrew Oleenik from Queenscliff was last seen almost 10 years ago, Murray McMillan from Lara vanished in April last year and Rodney Martini from Queenscliff hasn’t been seen since August 2013. And it’s 3½ years since Geelong’s Daniel James O’Keeffe, then 24, left his family’s Highton home and seemingly vanished into thin air. His devastated family embarked on a massive but so-far fruitless search for Daniel, with his sister Loren quitting her job to help hunt for her younger brother. “It was a full-time job searching for Dan [after he vanished on July 15, 2011]. I didn’t sleep much for the first four months and was forever emailing, calling and reaching out to people while also setting up the Dan Come Home campaign,” Loren O’Keeffe says. “It got to the point where people were asking me to help them find their loved ones. I then decided someone had to help these people.” O’Keeffe, 30, looked into setting up a charity and soon found Vodafone Australia’s World of Difference initiative. It helps people to take time out and work for a charity of their choice. She got an $85,000 grant for paid charity leave and, in May 2013, established the Missing Persons Advocacy Network. It started at her dining table in Richmond but now has its own office in Melbourne’s CBD, from where it helps some of the thousands of people affected emotionally, financially and
COVER STORY As with so many families, O’Keeffe’s life was turned upside down when her brother went missing. A former Geelong Grammar student, she had gone on to Swinburne University to do a double degree in international business and Japanese, with the goal of working on joint ventures with Australian businesses in Japan. After studying in Japan and travelling around South America, O’Keeffe returned to work for the Department of Education in online communications. But her dream of working overseas went out the window when Daniel went missing. Soon after, O’Keeffe quit her job to help hunt for him. Since the launch of the Missing Persons Advocacy Network, O’Keeffe says 30 families have contacted her seeking help to search for their own loved ones. Regardless of whether Daniel comes home, she says the network will be his legacy. “We have built relationships with organisations to help with printing costs and to help with accommodation, and travel, plus more,” she says. “People really got behind us. We now have people all over the country printing posters off for their workplaces and ordering bumper stickers. These are people we don’t even know and people that don’t know Dan. Those people can see their brother, their son, or friend in Dan, too. “The financial impact is just another thing on top of the emotional trauma, so that’s some of the support MPAN can offer. The objective is to find them – it would be great to do that – but in the meantime we are making the families
searching together psychologically when loved ones disappear. In November 2013, O’Keeffe launched a world-first interactive website (www.missingpersonsguide.com) to help families and friends of missing persons. It includes downloadable templates for posters and media releases, a contacts list and a checklist of what to do. “I just couldn’t believe it didn’t exist,” O’Keeffe says. “When a loved one is missing, you are not thinking clearly, not eating or sleeping. You are spending hours searching individual numbers to call. You can’t waste hours, so the website makes the process more efficient. “Everything that’s gone through my head in the past 3½ years since Dan has been gone is on the website.” O’Keeffe is also about to launch another world-first to help those searching for missing loved ones. She has teamed with Singapore advertising company Grey Group to establish a national initiative called Help Find Me, in which Australian websites will help promote searches for missing Australians. O’Keeffe says it’s free and easy to use. Any business with a website can join in by following instructions at www.helpfindme.com.au/ The campaign will be launched across Australia on Monday, February 16, while the website will go live tomorrow (Friday, February 13). Next year O’Keeffe hopes to tie the campaign in with National Missing Persons Week. 8 THE WEEKLY REVIEW \ FEBRUARY 12, 2015

feel supported and connecting them with organisations to help with the costs, and with the media to raise awareness.” O’Keeffe also often travels to research and work with similar non-profit charities and organisations. MPAN has a sister charity in Britain called Missing People, which is 22 years old. It has 400 volunteers and 60 paid staff; O’Keeffe hopes for similar things for MPAN. She will go to New York this year to take part in a workshop covering ambiguous loss – the feeling of ongoing grief when there is no verification of a death. “It’s the worst thing, not knowing what happened to a loved one. We don’t really have anyone who has a grasp on ambiguous loss in Australia,” O’Keeffe says. “I’d love to put pressure on the government for university courses to start teaching ambiguous loss as tools to help families. There are a lot of people going through it in Australia. “I’d love to fix the legal barriers and obstacles for families, like us not being able to pay Dan’s parking fines, and the electoral commission calling up to say Dan hasn’t voted, because he is missing.” \ jmillard@theweeklyreview.com.au » mpan.com.au » www.missingpersonsguide.com WE WELCOME YOUR FEEDBACK @

The hunt goes on: Loren O’Keeffe’s life changed when her brother, Daniel, went missing 3½ years ago.
“it’s giving my mum enough hope to get out of bed each morning” – loren o’keeffe DANIEL O’KEEFFE
A large proportion of people who go missing have a mental illness – usually depression or anxiety. Loren O’Keeffe says her brother was suffering from depression at the time of his disappearance. “They say 85 per cent of missing persons cases relate to mental illness, and one in two people will experience depression or anxiety in their life,” O’Keeffe says. “Education about this is important as we need to remove the stigma and taboo around missing persons, because it’s happening every day. We need to stop associating missing persons with Crime Stoppers. Anyone can go missing. People that go missing are brothers, sons, teammates, friends and members of the community. “It’s important that we don’t associate missing persons with police. It’s not a crime to go missing and the police often don’t have the resources to search. “It’s about people power … it’s only a police matter if they believe a crime has occurred.” O’Keeffe says social media has revolutionised how people can search for missing loved ones and it’s giving her family hope. Daniel’s Facebook page “Missing Person – Daniel James O’Keeffe” has more than 55,000 likes. “It’s giving my mum enough hope to get out of bed each morning, seeing that people care,” she says. “Where there is publicity, there is hope.” \

“The chef takes pride in the food and we back what the chef puts up,” Kadir says. “Brandon is very interested and keen to use organically grown herbs and vegetables picked fresh from garden to table, experimenting with different flavours and creating exciting dishes that are substantial, delicious and enticing.” With a contemporary setting, the restaurant is family friendly. The nearby park offers a place to wear out any youngsters before or after dining out.
Lunch is available Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 2.30pm. Dinner is Wednesday to Saturday from 6pm to 8.30pm. The new summer menu offers six entrées or smaller meals, eight mains and six desserts for dinner. For lunch there are 12 to 15 options. Prices range from $21 to $34. Kadir says some of the more popular dishes are the salmon fillet with cranberry and raisin couscous, roquette, and red pepper coulis ($30), the barbecue
chicken breast with roasted peppers, Spanish onion, eggplant and herb yoghurt ($29), and the honey mustard-glazed pork loin with pickled red cabbage, green beans and cucumber ($34). Other favourite mains include the eye fillet and local fresh fish. These have remained from the previous menu, but incorporate different flavours. For dessert, temptations include chocolate cake with chocolate sauce, double cream, raspberry gel, coconut ice-cream and chocolate soil ($14) and the white chocolate and goat’s cheese tart with lemon sorbet and pistachio praline ($16). Rosanna says other offerings include house-made breads and sauces such as aïoli. “We also have vegetarian options and we can alter [dishes] for allergies,” she says. “Everything is pretty much gluten-free, and what isn’t can be.” During summer, breakfast is available at the weekend, with 10 dishes to choose from. Ripples on the Bay is open from 9am on Saturday and 8.30am on Sunday. The deck has just been re-done so diners can enjoy breakfast overlooking the water. Popular breakfasts include the big brekkie, omelettes and eggs benedict. The restaurant also caters for functions, with a separate function menu. It can seat 80 for a sit-down, or 100 for cocktail. It is also helping a local family to raise money for Cancer Council Victoria by selling cupcakes from the restaurant. \ JULIA MILLARD GOT A FOOD TIP FOR US?

ith a surname like Coffey, there seems little point trying to dodge your destiny. But the owner of Torquay’s new Whyte’s On The Esplanade has done his best to take lengthy detours and distractions, making the journey a long one. Brit Ian Coffey owns a construction company, a chain of Brazilian restaurants in Glasgow, Cardiff and Liverpool, and champagne bars in Glasgow and Manchester. In the middle of all that, Coffey and his family, and another family of friends, broke their habit of holidaying together in North Wales. They ventured to Australia for a break, and were all ensnared by the Surf Coast. In 2013, both families packed up and moved 17,000 kilometres to start new lives. “I just love the lifestyle and the weather,” Coffey says. “Really, that’s why we came here. It’s for my children. And, the Australian people are just so easy to befriend. There’s a real warmth to communities here. I enjoy the company of people and their conversation. “I lived in a village in the UK and I feel I’ve come to a village here. It’s very communal.” But moving to the opposite side of the planet didn’t happen easily. In his first year here, Coffey, who now lives in Torquay, returned to Britain nine times because of his business interests. “It had to stop. James says visitors, especially kids, love looking through the door of the greenhouse and are fascinated that they can actually see where the tomatoes are grown. “People love coming to the farm gate and are aware it cuts out the food miles, plus they enjoy buying the produce direct because they can see it being grown and talk to the grower,” says James. “We specialise in supplying local restaurants, cafés and independent supermarkets with our assorted herbs, lettuce and tomatoes.

Scatter them fresh into a salad, slice for sandwiches, make a relish or sauce, or add them to a rich ragout – their versatility is endless. James and Angela Moran are one couple who really know their tomatoes. They run the Lonsdale Tomato Farm, which was established in 1997 by James’ now retired uncle Andrew Pearson and his wife Helen. This hydroponic tomato-growing business is well known on the Bellarine Peninsula to locals and visitors alike, who head to the farm gate shop to stock up on the bounty of freshly harvested tomatoes, lettuce, herbs and other produce from our region’s producers. “We grow everything hydroponically under plastic in two greenhouses, covering 4000 square metres, which are also heated,” says James. “The plants are supplied with a liquid nutrient feed by drip irrigation, which means we aren’t wasting water, and we have a lot of technology that controls the environment. “We use integrated pest management, including Encarsia formosa wasps, as we try to keep chemical use to a minimum or none at all. “All our plants are tended by hand from nurturing, pruning, pollinating and hand-picking to ensure the highest-quality produce.’’ The farm prides itself on producing tomatoes with big flavour, so The Weekly Review tasting panel put the round truss, Roma, cherry and Black Russian varieties to the taste test. Favourites were split between the sweet cherry tomato with its clean acid finish and the Black Russian, which was sweet and more rounded in flavour – delicious! True to its original purpose, khaki can be a chameleon of kinds, tending towards yellow, olive or brown. Yet one thing is certain about this season’s military trend – and that’s the touch of luxe it’s infused with this time around. Pair a khaki top with jeans to dress it down or add sparkle with a costume jewellery piece. Speaking of accessories, wearing khaki is a perfect excuse to don a wide-brimmed, statement hat – so feel free to pull out that fedora from the back of your wardrobe.

Denim Reinvented The beautiful chambray look that’s been popular this summer is staying around, although it’s taking cues from its denim heritage and, at times, deepening in colour, too. Asymmetrical skirts, relaxed-fit trousers and sophisticated parkas are just some of the options around and to come, as denim is reinvented for workwear – and beyond. In saying that, there’s no need to go all out for a denim refresh … consider investing in a denim shirt dress that will provide you with plenty of styling options through the year.

a wing & a prayer HISTORY \ Where there’s a will there’s a Wirraway. NOEL MURPHY plots an Ocean Grove man’s plans to resurrect an old war bird
R
usted, grey and buckled, metal panels missing, exposed struts and skeleton peeking up out of the water, the old Wirraway’s fighting days are long past. Time and the cold waters of Lake Corangamite have seen to that. But with even the barest remnants of a cockpit surviving, and a buckled and broken propeller, the World War II aircraft may have some life in it yet. If Rod Knights has his way, it will be extricated from its muddy half-tomb this year – its first time on dry land in 65 years. Returning the CAC Wirraway A20-714 to something like its original appearance could take a little longer. Knights, a 55-year-old commercial diver from Ocean Grove, has been trying to get his hands on the Wirraway since the drought of 2005 dried up the lake’s western waters, uncovering the plane a kilometre offshore. The newly revealed wingtip helped Colac agricultural pilot Gordon Wilson pinpoint the plane. Bureaucratic red tape put paid to his own rescue plans. Knights has met the same sort of resistance. But he has persisted. His plans have been negotiated with Heritage Victoria, the RAAF, water, environment, marine, Aboriginal, wildlife and local planning authorities and regulations. Even though he has approvals from Corangamite Shire Council, RAAF, Heritage Victoria and others, he has yet more boxes to tick before he can try to remove the aircraft from the 1.3 metres of mud and the 1.5 metres or so of salty water it sits in. “I had planned to get it out by now but for red tape,” Knights says. “There’s other stipulations still. I can’t do it between bird-nesting seasons, so I have to research birds and migratory birds. But I’ve been working on this now for about six years. “Even though I feel like I’m getting the drip, drip slow-water treatment, I just keep chipping away. I’m very patient and methodical, although sometimes I do get a bit fed up.” The Wirraway’s story is a curious one. It was generally a training plane, although it was used in action in Papua New Guinea and what was then Malaya.

its wheels retracted. “The components above the mud line have suffered from exposure and vandalism during the drought but what lies beneath the mud has remained extremely well preserved,” he says. “I propose to raise the aircraft intact, transport it to a 300,000-litre freshwater tank erected near the lake, where it can be cleaned and monitored. Any loose components would be placed in a conservation program with specific inhibitors for the metal type. “The aircraft would be continually flushed with fresh water for a period of years until all components are able to be conserved. At this point, the aircraft would be transported to a hangar in Barwon Heads for restoration and reassembly.” This Wirraway was being flown by trainee pilot Vance Knights has treated the plane with a grease-tape wrap Drummond on a low-level exercise out of Point Cook in to help preserve it. GETTING SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR \ A onetime high-school dropout has become an expert in social media, writes JULIA A MILL ARD
A
t 18, Kylie Bartlett ran away from home, knowing school and the academic path were not her calling. She wanted to be a rock star. Years later, she’s made it – although not in music. The former Belmont High student is a web celebrity – a businesswoman, public speaker and author who teaches others about social media and the online world. It all came together during a trip to the US in 2008 after Bartlett sold her training company and started a new chapter in her life. She says the experience changed the way she viewed the world socially. “Everything they were doing in the US was digital; social media was taking off. It had reached a tipping point in the US, but wasn’t even reaching Australia yet,” she says. “On my return, I thought, ‘I’m going to give social media for small business a go’. I wanted to combine my expertise in psychology with social media. I thought, ‘Imagine if I could teach people about the psychology behind social media; that would be a nice little niche’.” Bartlett, who lives in Newtown, spent years in the training and education sector after leaving school. She worked with a non-profit organisation, helping long-term disadvantaged and unemployed people. She was running her own café by 21, and then, after becoming a professional trainer and speaker, she began freelancing in the early 1990s. In 1999, she started a registered training organisation, Pinnacle Training Solutions. It started with just $5000 in its first year, but had grown to a million-dollar business by its third year. “I could create my destiny, create my own rules and break them,” Bartlett says. By 24 she owned her first home and by 30 she had made her first million. But in 2007, after 15 years in training and education, Bartlett decided she needed a career change. She sold Pinnacle. “I didn’t want to grow a big empire again. I didn’t have a life. I was working 100 hours a week. I also knew I didn’t want to work with corporates,” she says. “I started eliminating what I didn’t want in life and I went on a learning curve.” The following year, she went to the US and discovered

social media. At the time she wasn’t even on Facebook herself. She signed up and says it took almost eight hours to do her first status update. “It was quite daunting, I felt quite nervous about it all,” she says. “But within six months I started running my own social media workshops in Australia, the US, New Zealand and Thailand.” Bartlett had already learnt psychology and psychometric profiling tools. She is also a master practitioner and trainer in neuro-linguistic programming. Now Bartlett combines these skills with her online knowledge to teach small businesses, many in Geelong, about social media strategy through a web-based TV program called SME TV TV. She has also published a book, Friends With Benefits, which offers a five-step strategy for growing a business with Facebook. It started with Web Celeb TV, which Bartlett began in 2009, producing a weekly webcast teaching how to use social media. “That’s what essentially put me on the map,” she says. “Now social media is integral to a business’ marketing plan. You have to be where your customers are.” These days, she says, social media is as important as installing a phone line. “We are born digital now. Studies say 53 per cent of
web traffic is through a mobile device. I believe social media will end up replacing emails,” Bartlett says. Her newest venture is putting Geelong on the map. SME TV is funded by the Geelong Chamber of Commerce, and is designed to teach small businesses how to make the most of social media. “We are all time poor, we don’t have time for a course and we don’t want to go through it. I have 20-minute episodes that practise real-life tips on how to integrate social media into business,” she says. “The first series is 13 episodes of Geelong businesses. Six of those businesses are going well offline, but not online. The other seven have online success stories, so it shows how they are doing it. “I approached businesses that were winning awards offline, as they had a good social media opportunity. I have a passion for small businesses, because sometimes they can be overlooked.” Bartlett says the show is great for Geelong, and showcasing her hometown is a privilege. “The closest thing to living my dream of being a rock star was launching my own TV show,” she says. \ jmillard@theweeklyreview.com.au » www.kyliebartlett.com/tvshow/

First-time winners included Ingrid Hindell (volunteering), Phoebe Mitchell (sport and recreation), Thomas Banks (leadership and advocacy), Cassy Geffke (achievement award) and Bronwyn McGuire (outstanding employee). Those who attended the ceremony were treated to a performance from acoustic/folk musician Bree-arne Manley. \ JULIA MILLARD

ontemporary comfort has rarely looked better than at this stylish architect-designed house in sought-after Newtown. The two-storey house is packed with the best fittings money can buy and shows the careful consideration for detail that comes with thoughtful planning. Relaxed family living with a splash of luxury is what this place is all about. That means early morning swims in the heated lap pool, lazy hours in the spa, and family meals cooked outside on the built-in barbecue. When you do feel the need to venture beyond the boundary, Pakington Street’s trendy café and shopping strip is at the end of the road. The house has a modern, rendered façade, softened with timber highlights and tropical-inspired palms. Inside, it shows more of the same uncluttered style. Textured tiles line the floor from the entrance hallway through to the main living room and kitchen/dining area at the rear. These light-filled spaces have been designed around the lap pool and deck; several sets of sliding doors increase the connection to the outside. The pool and spa are the focal point of the compact yard. They have LED lighting and Italian glass mosaic tiles for maximum impact. Whether you like to host guests inside or out, the impressive barbecue area and well-equipped kitchen have you covered. Both have stone benchtops with waterfall edges. Inside, there’s a long list of other quality features, including a walk-in pantry, industrial-style tapware, 900-millimetre Smeg oven, built-in microwave and integrated double refrigerator. The main bedroom is at the front of the ground floor, opposite the double garage. The attention to small details is again evident here, in the recessed display box in the wall above the bedhead. It has its own lighting to show off your chosen piece of art. Behind this wall is a concealed wardrobe, while the luxurious en suite with floor-to-ceiling tiles and stone vanity is off to one side. Upstairs is a second living room facing the street. Small, strategically placed windows with plantation shutters allow natural light into the space without compromising privacy. It also has a sheltered balcony where you can watch the action on the pool deck below without fear of getting splashed. Three more bedrooms and a family bathroom are zoned together towards the back of the top level. Great use of glazing again turns what would usually be an ordinary hallway connecting the rooms into something special. Full-height windows along the passage offer views over the pool deck as you pass by. The first bedroom has a built-in wardrobe, while the two next door have the luxury of walk-in wardrobes. Families will appreciate the deep bath in the upstairs bathroom and the double vanity where siblings can spread out. A shower with two showerheads makes it easy to wash young kids together after a day in the pool. There is a separate powder room next door. \ NICOLE MAYNE property@theweeklyreview.com.au

This double-fronted Victorian weatherboard house has been transformed into a modern living space while retaining its original character. The front features polished timber floorboards, high ceilings and plantation shutters, while the rear extension features polished concrete floors and modern finishes. There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a laundry, open-plan zone, and two living areas. The front carpeted bedrooms have split-system air-conditioners. The main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and an en suite. Two further bedrooms with built-in wardrobes share a bathroom, which has a deep bathtub. The open-plan zone is down a level from the bedrooms. The kitchen has 2pac cabinetry, a built-in fridge and freezer and stone benchtops. Two entertainment areas feature timber decking and floor-to-ceiling doors. Set on about 400 square metres, the property includes a remote-controlled double garage with lane access, automatic blinds, heating and cooling and an alarm system. \ JULIA MILLARD

There was barely a tree in sight when this 15-hectare property near the foot of the You Yangs last changed hands 30 years ago. Since then the owners have transformed the landscape with 4000 trees, creating attractive ornamental and edible gardens that are now well established around the house. Inside, there is plenty of space, with multiple living areas and a flexible floor plan. The formal lounge and dining room at the front has a country feel thanks to an exposed-brick feature wall and timber dado panelling. Off here is a generous studio/home office and a main bedroom with en suite and walk-in wardrobe. The remaining bedrooms run down one side of the house, alongside the kitchen/meals areas and second living room. A recent refit includes stone benchtops, a central island bench, two ovens and a 900-millimetre electric cooktop. From the sink, you have a great view of the covered outdoor entertainment area. Outside there are horse stables, an arena, two chook runs, sheds and paddocks. \ NICOLE MAYNE
