The Middle School schedule features seven courses, rotating, six periods a day. Each course meets four days per week. Wednesdays are late start days that begin at 8:45 a.m., allowing teachers to meet as a whole faculty each week. Office Hours provide time at the end of the day (Monday–Thursday) for students to check in with teachers, make up missed work, ask additional questions, or start/finish homework.

Community Engagement Westminster’s Glenn Institute facilitates opportunities for students to authentically engage with the Atlanta community. Students learn about Atlanta’s successes and recognize opportunities to address real needs as they develop critical competencies for civic leadership. In Middle School, students engage with the community in numerous ways during the school day, as well as after school. Problem-based approaches in academic classrooms help students explore and identify effective, sustainable solutions in response to community and societal needs. Our ServeATL class is a place for eighth graders to learn about pressing issues in Atlanta, hear from civic leaders who are addressing those challenges, and discover ways they can be involved. Activities like Service Council and Serving on the 7’s are designed to give interested students more opportunities to lead as difference-makers in our school community, in Atlanta, and beyond. MIDDLE SCHOOL COMMUNITY PARTNERS INCLUDE: • • • •

Agape Youth & Family Center Atlanta Community Food Bank Atlanta Habitat for Humanity MUST Ministries

We will meet promptly at 2:45 p.m. in the Seminar Room of the GWL and return to Westminster at 4:45 p.m. Remember, NO previous experience or expertise required; just come ready to serve and share some love! Maker Faire Atlanta is next weekend! What’s Maker Faire, you ask? It’s a fair featuring DIY activities, arts, technology, robots, crafts, electronics, drones, and just plain fun! The Middle School Chorus will be performing their first concert of the year! It will take place immediately after school in Oglesby. They will be singing songs from Shrek, Harry Potter, and The Sound of Music. Please come and support your friends in chorus! Global Programs for this summer include Canada, China, Colorado, Equador, France, and Spain! Don’t forget to turn in your application for these exciting excursions to Señor Hoyos by this Friday. Affinity Groups: EAAG (East Asian affinity group) will be meeting with Ms. Rosetta Lee this Friday morning from 7:15 to 8:10 a.m. in the orchestra room in Broyles 302.
