DAY CAMPS Summer Day Camp For more than 60 years, Westminster has offered a traditional day camp experience with the look and feel of a rural summer camp. Campers are grouped by grade and participate in archery, canoeing, arts and crafts, swimming, global games, and so much more. You will find our secluded camp site just across Nancy Creek from the main campus of Westminster. The Day Camp facilities include an athletic field, outdoor pool, canoe pond, nature and craft cabins, ropes course, riflery range, archery range, and a covered picnic area. Cubby Camp A summer camp option for 3- and 4-year olds with full and half day options. Camp is held at Tull Hall on the Westminster campus and includes daily indoor and outdoor activities in arts and crafts, sports and games, swimming at the camp pool, and nature discovery. The little Wildcats will have rest time each afternoon and should bring two peanut-free snacks daily. (Campers must be 3 or 4 years old by June 1) 3–4 years old Half Day 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Arts and Science Camp
Kids build their own mobile app!
Experienced educators teach classes in a variety of fields. Each day, campers have three classes, lunch and recess, and then three more classes. In this camp from Youth Digital, kids learn foundational mobile app development skills as they design and program their own mobile games. Kids will be able to download and play their finished apps on their Android or iOS device! They’ll also be able to access the online version of the course after camp, including video tutorials, interactive quizzes, and new challenges. Kids learn critical app design concepts and computational thinking through if-then statements, variables, debugging, and troubleshooting. They learn skills used in the app design industry, including gameplay mechanics, level design, and the importance of user experience. During camp, kids will complete the process of designing a mobile game from start to finish, including choosing characters, level design, and programming the app’s functionality!

SPECIALTY CAMPS Beginning Theatre
Advanced Theatre
The Beginning Theatre Intensive program explores the world of storytelling through character work, text analysis, design, and imagination exercises. It concludes with a short performance Friday afternoon, the last day of camp, and all parents and friends are invited to attend.
In this three-week camp, students work with a professional creative team to rehearse and perform the hit musical The Addams Family. In addition to the production, students learn audition techniques, improvisation, stage design, musical theatre dance styles, and much more. In The Addams Family, the weird and wonderful family comes to devilishly delightful life. The show is filled with vibrant characters and incredible music, and it will be performed on Friday evening, June 23, at 7:00 p.m. Come be a part of the family. We’ll leave the lights off for you.

SPECIALTY CAMPS Musical Theatre Intensive
Artist in Residence
The Musical Theatre Intensive features classes in scene study, improvisation, stage combat, vocal performance, musical theatre dance styles, and audition technique. Students have the opportunity to work with professionals to improve their singing, dancing, and acting. The two-week session culminates in a Broadway-style musical revue the last day of camp.
This camp focuses on creating project-based art in a wide variety of media. Taught by professional teaching artists, campers first explore the fundamentals in drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Campers are encouraged to find and develop their own particular interests and voice. During this time, campers are exposed to a wide variety of artistic styles and artwork. Campers propose a “final project” in the medium of their choice around a topic that has personal relevance to them. The remainder of studio time is devoted to bringing that piece to fruition. Along the way, campers learn the steps of the artistic process from idea to creation, peer feedback, reflection about their process, and how to present their pieces.

Theatre: Bard on Broyles Bard on Broyles brings the works of William Shakespeare and his contemporaries to an outdoor stage. This year’s production will be Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part 1. Initiated in 2016 in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, this camp brings relevance to the most transcendent plays in the English language and mentors aspiring actors in a non-traditional performance venue. Grades 9-12 and college-aged alumni 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

SPECIALTY CAMPS Engineering
Chess Camp
Campers put their engineering skills to the test by being given daily challenges to solve. The campers have fun by learning to build prototypes, testing and modifying their prototypes, and competing in such challenges as building the tallest structure, building the strongest weight-bearing structure, and building the strongest weight-bearing bridge using only index cards and one foot of scotch tape.
Campers learn tactics and how to use a chess clock, play computer chess, and solve chess puzzles. They learn about and participate in different kinds of tournament play. This camp is ideal for campers who enjoy the popular game and would like to build their skills through lessons and competition. All levels welcome. Grades 1–5

SPECIALTY CAMPS Cooking Camp
CSI: Forensic Science
Cooking campers learn all about food planning, preparation, and presentation through five days of hands-on stirring, turning, and burning. Campers bake, shake, dice, fry, grill, and occasionally burp their way through learning how to cook a variety of different items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
There are crimes to be solved on the campus of Westminster! Campers will have fun exploring and using some of the same techniques as forensic scientists use to solve crimes. Campers will perform fiber analysis, explore the different types of finger prints, learn about blood typing, and so much more!

Architecture and 3D Printing Campers learn the basics of architecture principals and use 3D printers to design solutions to everyday problems, using their own creativity and ingenuity. Students learn how to think about solutions to problems in three dimensions, how to design using state-of-the-art software design programs, and how to use a 3D printer. Grades 6–8

SPECIALTY CAMPS Sewing Camp
Mandarin
Just like Project Runway! Campers learn to create, design, and sew their very own clothes and accessories. Campers repurpose clothes to create their very own runway-ready pieces. Campers may bring their own sewing machines from home if they know how to use them.
Campers will learn how to speak Mandarin or improve the Mandarin they already know. Emphasis is placed on greetings and introductions, colors, fruits and vegetables, counting, and so much more. The camp also teaches students how to write several Chinese characters, sing Mandarin songs, and play a variety of different games. The program is geared toward beginners, but all levels are welcome.

Photography There’s an old saying that “a picture is worth a thousand words.” That’s what campers will explore in this summer camp: taking pictures of value that will speak volumes. A photographer is essentially a storyteller, preserving memories and seeing beauty in our everyday surroundings. We will offer traditional black-and-white film and digital photography.

SPECIALTY CAMPS Mod Design Camp
Math Fun for Girls
Create your own Minecraft mod!
Campers have the opportunity to learn and practice math skills through real-world problem-solving techniques. Campers are constantly challenged to solve unusual problems and invent their own in a relaxing and supportive setting. Campers are split into two groups based on grade level.
In this camp from Youth Digital, kids learn real Java programming as they design and code their own Minecraft modifications from start to finish. At the end of camp, kids will walk away with a unique Minecraft mod they can download and share with friends! They’ll also be able to access the online version of the course after camp, including video tutorials, interactive quizzes, and new challenges. Kids learn the foundations of Java, the most widely-used programming language in the world, including instantiation, methods, parameters, loops, and more to create their own mods. They learn how to mod like the pros using industry-standard coding skills to create their own blocks, items, mobs, and more. Kids learn to use Eclipse, the same Java development kit used by professionals to create Minecraft and many other commercial programs. Grades 3–8

Robotics Robotics is offered to children, both beginners and experts, entering grades 3-8. Campers work in teams of two to three, based on their age and level of experience. Campers have the option to use a blueprint to build a standard robot or design their own stable robot. Campers in grades 6-8 experience the VEX robotics system for the first time. VEX is a technical platform that involves building robots using aluminum and steel parts, including wheels, gears and motors. Students will also learn to use a dynamic, non-graphical programming language, ROBOTC, to program their robot for autonomous movement. Grades 3–8 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. $789 per 2-week session

Video Game Development
Kids create their own Minecraft server!
Kids design and program their own 3D game!
In this camp from Youth Digital, kids learn professional Java programming as they design and build their own customized Minecraft server they can share and play with friends after camp! They’ll also be able to access the online version of the course after camp, including video tutorials, interactive quizzes, and new challenges.
In this camp from Youth Digital, kids create a video game just like they do in real game design studios. They use Unity, an industry-standard game design software, and C#, a professional programming language, to build and code their game from scratch. At the end of camp, kids will have a complete, fully functional game they can play and share with friends. They will also be able to access the online version of the course after camp, including video tutorials, interactive quizzes, and new challenges.
Kids learn the foundations of Java, the most widely used programming language in the world, including methods, parameters, if-then and if-else statements, logical operators, variable types such as strings, booleans, and integers, instantiation, and arrays to customize their server. They learn to code just like the pros, using advanced techniques like commenting, debugging, auto-complete, documentation referencing, and more while using a professional online code editor called Codenvy, which is used by large industry leaders. Campers will need a Minecraft login to access their server post-camp. Grades 3–8

As kids code new features in their game, they learn the most important concepts in programming, including if-then and conditional statements, logical operators, variables, methods, parameters, object types, and loops. They also learn the fundamental techniques of game design, such as navigating and operating within a three-dimensional environment, utilizing prefabs, generating custom particles, simulating artificial intelligence, and more. Not only are the kids using professional tools, but the games they make will look professional too, so they will be excited throughout the week as they create just like the pros! Grades 3–8

Individual and team instruction is given by Westminster coaches and college and high school athletes. Participants select both a morning and an afternoon sport. SPORTS CAMPS Basketball 4-Day Intensive Basketball Camp is a coed program that concentrates on developing the fundamental skills—dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding, spacing, movement without the ball, defensive stance, and positioning— essential for success in the wonderful game of basketball. There will be basketball competitions (hotshot, free throws, one-on-one) as well as live competitive league games. We emphasize the game of basketball while also focusing on creating an attitude of striving for excellence in all aspects of life. Grades 3–8 $249 per session

Cheerleading 4-Day Intensive Cheerleading Camp covers all the fundamentals of cheerleading, including dancing, jumping, stunting, and proper arm technique. Campers will also learn a number of Westminster cheers and chants, as well as a dance. Grades 3–8 $249 per session

Fencing Learn the fine art of fencing. This camp is designed for beginners with little or no fencing experience. All equipment is provided. Students receive in-depth instruction, learn new skills, practice strategy, and make new friends. Grades 5–9

SPORTS CAMPS Golf
Karate
This camp is designed for players that are very new to the game or have never played before. The instruction is based on solid techniques that will allow the junior golfer to improve to the next level. The program includes 5-6 hours a day of golf instruction. The morning starts with individual and group instruction at the Auzzie Kids Golf Academy. This facility specializes in the introduction and teaching of the golf swing, course management, rules, and etiquette. The golfers visit a local course to play 9 holes of golf in the afternoon. This program is quickmoving and designed to keep the interest of this level of player.
Gear up, young champions, and kick high! Let the martial arts games begin! Ninja fun or game activities with a martial arts twist are incorporated into each day! Karate camp students begin each day with yoga to enhance flexibility and meditation to further focus the mind. Additional exercises for strength, balance, and agility are learned and practiced. Martial arts disciplines of Karate, Jujitsu, and Kung Fu are taught for beginners and for practitioners who want extra practice. KIA!

Softball 4-Day Intensive
Boys Lacrosse Camp is designed for the experienced as well as the beginner desiring to learn or improve his skills in the game of lacrosse. Campers learn the fundamental skills of passing, cradling, and shooting skills. Attention is also given to basic team offensive and defensive concepts.
Our Softball Camp is designed with skill development in mind. Campers receive daily repetitions in hitting, throwing, catching, fielding, and base running. Fun lead-up games and activities, along with a daily softball game, make for an enjoyable week.

SPORTS CAMPS Tennis
Volleyball 4-Day Intensive
The goal of Tennis Camp is to provide a fun, competitive environment for all kids learning to improve their overall tennis skills. Instructors conduct daily instructional drills and strategy on the court and encourage match play when each child is ready. The camp aims to provide the children with a strong platform to go out and be more efficient and knowledgeable about the game of tennis so they can enjoy it for a lifetime.
Volleyball Camp puts an emphasis on fundamental skill instruction (passing, serving, setting, digging, attacking, and blocking) for all levels of play, which enhances the overall understanding of how to play the game. Specialty skill sessions (setter, outside attacker, middle attacker, libero) are offered, which will allow the camper to sharpen the skills required in each position. The campers will play mini-games that emphasize different aspects of volleyball on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
