Beechwood. Beechwood. punk trio is just one of those The legendary bands you can't forget. NYC locals Gordon Lawrence (guitar/vocals), Sid Simons (bass) and Isa Tineo (drums) have the "too cool" vibe that is equally matched by the sound and style. Gordon: We had a lot of fun on our European tour, that was cool to perform at different venues. But, Berlin in New York on Avenue A is like our fave. Together: The last one. Isa: There’s this one Gordon: Yeah, “Our Love Was venue in the Netherlands Worth the Heartbreak”. We called Vera Groningen. were all on the microphone We stayed in the just screaming. It has one upstairs of the venue, of those choruses that is so we played a set then just very “sing-songy”. We just went up to bed. So had fun, it was the three of that was cool, yeah. us and our producer, who Gordon: With Groningen, actually is my uncle. We had all of our favorite to layer like 5 tracks, bands played there so it there was something like 15 was cool to play there voices on that one. with the apartment right upstairs. Would you say that’s your favorite song to perform What was the first live? record you ever bought? Isa: I’d say Flesh Hotel. Gordon: I like Nero, it’s Gordon: The first record the last song most times and that I got that was mine I like ending it that I ever bought was a instrumental. Ramones anthology box That’s cool. So, you guys also just released an album in June. Which was your favorite song to record from “Inside the Flesh Hotel”?

We’ll start off basic.. your band’s name is both catchy and edgy. Where did it originate? Gordon: Beechwood was the block that I grew up on. I grew up right near the George Washington Bridge on the Jersey side. It was originally me and Isa, the drummer. As soon as we started playing, we started recording on my computer with the computer microphone and stuff. We didn’t really have a name so we were gonna call the record The Beechwood Sessions since it was recorded in my parent’s basement. We were like 16 and 17 at the time, really not that long ago. But yeah, we booked a show and didn’t have a name so Beechwood just kind of stuck.

that had all their songs Yeah, that sounded awesome on it.. I got that the at today’s show. Do you have same day I got a guitar. a favorite venue to perform at?

Isa: My first record was Transformer by Lou Reed. I didn’t even know what it was, I was just flicking through a thrift store. Sid: By the time I bought my first record, I was already a teenager, butGordon: Yeah, all our dad’s listen to good music too so we grew up with it. Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with? Gordon: That’s a tough question because the first thing you wanna say is Iggy or something like that, but I would want something more of a side guy. Someone who is good at adding stuff to my stuff, like Brian Jones for example. He’s dead obviously but he was the dude who was able to add amazing stuff to a Stones song. I would want someone like that opposed to a songwriter who would mainly in control of the sessions. Another tough hitter… but, where do you picture your band in 5 years? Isa: I think in five years we would put out such a good amount of music that we would be doing our own thing. Gordon: Yeah, we put out two records in 6 months.. maybe, have 10 records out. Whatever we can do to just keep playing music.

Last question… just out of curiosity, where do you guys shop? Sid: I just wear my girlfriend’s clothes.

Happiness. How do I know when I am this? Do I have to find love somewhere throughout this cruel world? Or will I find it somewhere within? Happiness. Why do I need to be this? Is it so others won’t ask me if I am okay? Is it so I won’t be crying when I’m alone at the end of the day? Happiness. I no longer want to pretend. Let me be happy when I am happy. Let me be sad when I am sad. Let me be angered when I am angered. Let my within cover the shell, let it mend. My heart and brain will lead the way. Though they may fight and cause a delay, I trust that happiness, I will apprehend. L y r i c W a t s o n

Take me back Take me back to 1953 To drive in movies and kisses on the cheek To strolls in the park walking hand in hand To gingham dresses and big brass bands Take me back to 1964 When the Beatles played like never before To righteous movements and warm summer nights To picnic dates and flying kites Take me back to 1975 To baby blue corvettes and the Jackson 5 To bowling alley dates and peaceful protests The smell of freedom and the sweetest moments Take me back to last Friday night Your face sculpted by the dim moonlight To dreams and wishes that finally came true The best time in the world is when I’m alone with you. It was our last night in Bordeaux. My roommate and I stayed up the whole time. We wanted to savor the moment; being seventeen, in our own hotel room, and in the midst of a country unknown to us. So, we listened to our music and drank our coffee. But, the music couldn't be too loud, in order to avoid noise complaints. The coffee couldn't be too strong, yet I still drank 3 espressos. We contemplated using our footed marble bathtub, but settled on face masks instead. Despite the espresso, we fell asleep due to jet lag. Yet, we made sure to set an alarm for the French sunrise. We went up to the fourth and fifth floors to gain better vantage points, only to find out the best view was from our room the entire time. The sunrises there look the same as they do at home.
