Noe Rodriguez knows this briefcase. This is the third time he has restored it. It’s a beautiful piece—a Captain King briefcase—owned by A. C. Jones of Corpus Christi, and like King Ranch, it has history. The case was given to him 40 years ago by his wife as a gift for their first anniversary. He cherishes it and carries nothing else. Today his heirloom is back at the Ranch and in good hands. Noe has been handcrafting leather at King Ranch for over 25 years. As a young man he began making shaving kits. And, now he is one of our finest master craftsmen, specializing in creating signature pieces like the Captain King briefcase he works on today. Made-to-order in Kingsville, the Captain King briefcase is crafted of the same beautiful and rugged leather used in our saddles, with brass hardware and natural leather lining, and the owner’s initials embossed under the handle. It takes a skilled craftsman like Noe up to 12 weeks to create a new Captain King briefcase. The restoration alone can take three days. Carefully, his skilled hands work the leather, and each piece of hardware is repaired or replaced. When he’s done, the briefcase won’t be new: it will be better.
