Welcome & Overview
WELCOME!
We are delighted that you are a part of The Wooden Floor. We believe participation in our programs is an agreement between students, parents, and The Wooden Floor. Therefore, participating youth and their families are asked to be actively involved in the opportunities we offer through our dance education, college and career readiness, and family service programs. The Wooden Floor’s outcomes align perfectly with the Orange County Department of Education’s goal to foster the Five Cs: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity, and Character in order to prepare students for their futures. At The Wooden Floor, we strive to foster a sixth C: Courage. We are focused and intentional about how our 10-year journey advances these traits and skill sets to prepare our students for the workforce and beyond. We believe when dance is a catalyst for change, innovation flourishes into life changing outcomes for the children we serve, and moves The Wooden Floor’s exciting mission forward, which helps move our community forward.
OVERVIEW
Founded in 1983, The Wooden Floor is one of the foremost creative youth development nonprofit organizations in the country. We transform the lives of young people through the power of dance and access to higher education. In Orange County and through national licensed partners, we use a long-term approach grounded in exploratory dance education to foster the confidence and gifts within each child to innovate, communicate, and collaborate – skills necessary for success in school and in life. 100 percent of students who graduate from The Wooden Floor immediately enroll in higher education. Our students become change agents and beacons of hope within their own families, their neighborhoods, our community, and our world.
ATTENDING ON SCHOLARSHIP
Each year at registration, all families are invited to apply for a scholarship by submitting verification of annual income. The Wooden Floor is dedicated to serving students with financial need at no charge.
