Bay Area Teen Idol is a drug-, alcohol- and- tobacco-free event for Coos County youth. All contestants must pledge to be drug-free during the competition. The contest features a variety of talent, from those with minimal performance experience to those who have vast experience. Each contestant will perform songs each week from July 13 through Aug. 1 during the elimination rounds. The semi-finals will again be held at the Blackberry Arts Festival in Coos Bay. The finals will be held at the Bay Area Fun Festival in September. The performances are scored by a panel of judges with stage, performance and singing experience.

BAY AREA Together for Youth and K-DOCK Radio are now booking appointments for Bay Area Teen Idol Auditions. Bay Area Teen Idol will begin its ninth season starting July 13. The auditions take place May 29 and 30 at Coos Bay Fire Station, 450 Elrod Ave. Performers will be asked to audition with and without music that

Bandon, Oregon Auditions are open to all Coos County Teens between 13 and 18 years old. Appointments can be made by calling K-DOCK Radio at 541-2690929. Information is available at www.bayareateenidol.com. NORTH BEND High School Band, under the direction of Amber Mareski, and Bay Area Concert Band, under the direction of Mark Allen, will offer a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the Hales Center for the Performing Arts. The concert includes a variety of classical and traditional band music by the groups seperately and combined. Admission is free, but donations will be used to fund scholarships for music students attending college. Two students were recent recipients of scholarships funded by past donations.
