CELEBRATING 47 YEARS of music at Southwestern Oregon Community College, the music department will present its end-of-year concert series through June 10 in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts. The concerts are open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. each night. All concerts are free to the public, but donations are gratefully accepted for SWOCC’s music department. The SWOCC Saxophone Quartet, under the direction of Michael Almich, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7. The quartet will perform a variety of jazz and standard arrangements for saxophone quartet from the 20th century. Also performing will be Oregon Coast Lab Bands’ top performing group “Evolution,”

1185 Baltimore Ave. SE under the direction of Professor Mike Turner who is director of music at SWOCC and executive music director at Oregon Coast Lab Bands. They will entertain with a variety of 1940’s through the 2000’s Big Band hits . The SWOCC Symphonic Choir, under the direction of Douglas Carothers, will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, June 8. Accompanied by Thomas Collins, the choir will perform Lux Aeterna by Morton Lauridsen. Also on the same concert will be the SWOCC Vocal Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Douglas Carothers, accompanied by Sarah Kimball on piano. They will be performing works by the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Michael Jackson. SWOCC piano instructor Charlotte McLauchlin and Professor Michael W. Turner will present a Joint Faculty Recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10, in Sunset Hall on the SWOCC campus. Ms. McLauchlin will perform works by Charles Ives and Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in F minor Opus 57 (“Appassionata”). Turner will perform solo works by Milan, Sor, Giuliani, Carulli, and Carcassi.
