AN ITALIAN dinner fundraiser to benefit Harbor Lights Middle School teacher Diane Smith will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at the Bandon School District cafeteria. Menu includes Italian pasta with choice of four sauces, salad bar, french bread, assorted desserts, coffee and punch. Pay at the door: $6/adults and $4/under-12. Everyone also is invited after the meal to come next door to the BHS gym at 7 p.m. to enjoy the final HLMS band/choir concert of the school year. Smith, who teaches history at HLMS, was diagnosed two weeks ago with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a form of leukemia that is more common in childen than adults and is trickier to treat in adults, according to Smith. She is in currently in Portland at Oregon Health and Sciences University receiving intensive chemotherapy treatments.
