BANDON — Coos County law enforcement have suspended a search for an Alzheimer’s patient who went missing Thursday from his Bandon home. Coos County sheriff’s deputies, along with Bandon police and Coos County Search and Rescue members, spent all of Friday and Saturday searching for 78-
Christopher Lane, just northeast of Bandon, around 3:30 p.m. Thursday when his wife left to go into town. After returning home in the evening, she noticed he was gone and called the Sheriff’s Office, according to a press release. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Rogers is known in the past to have walked to Bullards Beach State Park and even as far as into the town of Bandon from his home.
Rogers is described as in good health and very mobile. He is 5-feet, 9-inches, 185 pounds, and has brown hair with gray sides, brown eyes, a mustache and glasses. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, boots, an unknown type of shirt, and a dark baseball cap with a fish on it. Anyone with information about Rogers’ disappearance is asked to call the Coos County Sheriff’s Office at 541396-7800.

BROOKINGS — With a new chief financial officer hired and a new president in place, C&K Market Inc. looks forward to emerging from bankruptcy this summer. A confirmation hearing before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court is set for June 25 in Eugene, according to a press release from the company. New Chief Financial Officer David D. Doty brings several decades of experience, including serving as the CFO of Star Markets, Ltd. on the Hawaiian Islands. Most recently he was the CFO for Meadow Valley Corporation, a heavy highway civil construction firm, based in Phoenix, Ariz. Karl Wissmann, an industry veteran with more than 40 years of retail food experience, joined C&K earlier this year as chief operations officer and was recently appointed to the position of president. He’s demonstrated his strategic planning and operational expertise with leading West Coast food retailers, most notably with Ralph’s, a division of Kroger. “Our employees continue to impress me with their commitment to our customers and the communities we serve,” Wissmann said. “My excitement about the opportunity to grow this independent chain is even stronger than on my first day on the job. We’re poised for success.”

BANDON — Bandon residents may notice a strip of dead grass and weeds alongside the streets, particularly during this time of the year. This is the result of the city’s application of herbicides to control weeds alongside roads and sidewalks, on gravel pathways and in drainage ditches. Controlling this vegetation is a critical part of the city’s street, pathway and storm drainage maintenance program, according to City Manager Matt Winkel. “Weeds and their roots can undermine and damage the pavement and they can block the flow of storm water in drainage ditches,” Winkel said. “They are also very unsightly when they grow in cracks and expansion joints in gutters and sidewalks.” The herbicides used by the city are
