Weight loss journey leads to new career A mum of one lost her baby weight and in turn gained a new career How many times have you heard mums
discussing the difficulties they have with losing weight after giving birth? When you have a new addition to the family depending on you for their every need it can be extremely difficult finding the time to focus on yourself. With so many other responsibilities and priorities to tend to losing baby weight can seem like an impossible task. “Food Optimising is far too generous to be called a diet, not once did I feel as if I had to go without anything whilst losing weight” Like many new mums Vicky was worried about how difficult it may be to lose her baby weight after giving birth. After getting used to life with a small baby she decided to join a local slimming group. “I had never joined any kind of weight loss group before, at first I was quite nervous and unsure of what to expect. It turns out I had nothing to worry about, I received such a warm welcome from the group it instantly put me at ease”. By attending this group each week and getting tips from other slimmers Vicky began to see the numbers on the scales go down and was amazed at the results, her previous worries were replaced with a new found confidence that her
goal weight was in sight and was achievable. These results were being seen without being on a restrictive diet; by following Food Optimising she still had the freedom to enjoy food and never needed to go hungry. Vicky explained “I was amazed that I could eat so much and still lose weight. Not only that, I didn’t need to cut out my favourite foods such as chocolate and cake.” As well as continuing to have chocolate and cake Vicky could also enjoy her favourite meals such as spaghetti bolognese and roast dinners whilst continuing to lose weight. “Food Optimising is far too generous to be called a diet, not once did I feel as if I had to go without anything whilst losing weight”. After 2 months Vicky had lost 10% of her body weight. She has been awarded Slimmer of the Week a number of times which provided further motivation to continue with her journey and reach her target. With the care and support from both her Consultant and other members at her Friday morning Slimming World Group in Banbury Vicky, mum to 6 month old Ruby is now 2 stone lighter and has reached her goal - returning to her pre-baby weight. She was so impressed that she is now opening her own group at the Cornhill Centre on Monday 11th January at 7:30pm. “I’m looking forwards to helping others with their weight loss journey and will be there to support them every step of the way.”

nature. Some common treatments for musculoskeletal aches and pains, such as drugs, physiotherapy and exercise, are not always suitable for pregnant women. Osteopathy offers a safe and effective way of dealing with these common conditions.
Osteopathy and you
Osteopaths consider each person as an individual. Utilising gentle techniques they will work with your body to create the perfect conditions to encourage the healing process. To qualify, an osteopath must study for four to five years for an undergraduate degree. This is similar to a medical degree, with more emphasis on anatomy and musculoskeletal medicine and includes more than 1,000 hours of training in osteopathic techniques. By law, osteopaths must register with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). It is an offence for anyone to call themselves an osteopath if they are not registered. The British Medical Association’s guidance for general practitioners states that doctors can safely refer patients to:
Examination and treatment
Every patient undergoes a unique examination process. This begins with an extensive case history and an obstetric case history to see if she is suitable for treatment in this way. Then following a physical examination she may be offered osteopathic manual therapy to address not only the tissues causing symptoms but why she in particular has the problems and why it has shown itself when it does. Then once the pain begins to subside she may well be offered maintenance treatment to address the areas of her body and spine that are going to change during the coming months.

If attention is paid to facilitate this normal physiological change, then the change can take place with the minimum of stress and discomfort leading to a more natural and easy pregnancy. She will then usually be offered a post natal check at six weeks after she has been discharged from the obstetrician or midwife to assess that mechanically, things have returned to normal.
Remember
• Take particular care when lifting and carrying especially lifting or carrying other children. Do not carry a small child on one hip for any length of time • If you stand for any length of time, keep your bottom ‘tucked’ in to reduce strain on the lower part of your spine and maintain equal weight on both legs. Sit down when dressing to avoid standing on one leg
• When sitting, adopt a good sitting posture that supports your back, thighs and feet, use a cushion for support and don’t sit with your legs crossed • When lying on your side, place a pillow under the ‘bump’ and a pillow between your knees to provide support. When lying on your back, place pillows beneath your knees to keep them bent • Keep your knees together when getting in and out of the car, turning in bed and getting in or out of bed. This exhibition is still running, please come and enjoy this display. Sir Terry Frost was one of Britain’s most successful and highly acclaimed artists of the Twentieth Century. As a leading abstract painter he exhibited regularly in London and throughout the world, including major retrospectives at the Royal Academy of Arts & Tate St. Ives. During the Sixties and early Seventies he lived in Banbury and this exhibition, marking what would have been his 100th birthday, celebrates a personal side of his life with paintings and artefacts on loan from the Frost family and friends. Sir Terry Frost was born in nearby Leamington Spa in 1915. It was during the second World War that he discovered his enjoyment of art and beauty in the most terrible and unlikely of conditions. After being taken prisoner during the invasion of Crete in 1941, he was held at PoW Camp Stalag 383 in Bavaria. There he met and was taught by the artist Adrian Heath.
