S WELL AS being unique, The Millstone Hare was carefully named as such to root this lovely venue into its surroundings and local history.
We wanted to make links with one of the animals on site, and the hares are particularly fond of the polo pitches! We love their symbolism of the British countryside and their character, and are incredibly proud to be home to a family of increasingly rare British mammals.
Early in 2016, two pieces of broken Millstone were discovered scattered along the bank. Carefully restored and pieced together, these millstones have now taken pride of place as features of The Millstone Hare.

Charity calls for Coventry and Warwickshire residents to open homes and hearts to care leavers Barnardo’s is appealing for Coventry and Warwickshire residents to open their homes and hearts to care-leavers. While providers do not have the same responsibility as parents or foster carers, they are asked to be there in a supportive role while young people prepare for
adulthood and independence. They provide a supportive and stable home environment while also offering help with education, job hunting, budgeting, cooking and other skills. Barnardo’s spokesman Michael Spillane said: “Care-leavers are one of the most vulnerable groups in society and sometimes don’t have the life experience to begin living independently. “They may leave care with no qualifications or financial stability and they are at significant risk of homelessness. “However, supported lodgings providers can make a
dramatic difference to their prospects by welcoming them into their home, taking an interest in their wellbeing, and boosting their skills and confidence.” Applicants must be over 21 and need to have a spare bedroom and the use of a shared kitchen and bathroom. They will be provided with weekly payments for rent, food and other costs. Ongoing support, supervision and training will also be provided. Michael added: “Just about anyone can help a young person leaving care. “Even the simplest things – such as having someone who will ask if you’ve had a good day, or returning home to a healthy meal – can mean so much to a young person who is alone and unsure of their place in the world”.
