Thinner’s A Winner In Worktops Kelly Ampatzi Ball explains the benefits of Agglomerate for a stunning new look...
A
gglomerate is the fancy-sounding name Granite Transformations applies to its kitchen worktop and bathroom surfaces. It’s beautiful, tough, durable and much thinner than other materials like granite, marble, engineered stone or solid synthetics, but equals or exceeds them in technical performance terms. To prove it, Granite Transformations offers an unrivalled lifetime material warranty. So, with the millionth agglomerate already installed worldwide, what makes this distinctive material a winner in the kitchen and bathroom? Lightweight Aglomerate is at least two-thirds lighter than other materials, so
needs less reinforcement and can be installed vertically and horizontally. Slimline – produced and fully-sealed only a quarter of an inch thick, it fits right on top of existing surfaces without adding depth or substance. Tougher – the slimline profile doesn’t compromise strength and, unlike granite slab, agglomerate survives the droppedbowling ball test without breaking. Lasting – Granite Transformations’ agglomerate retains its luxurious good looks for so long, it is guaranteed against a lifetime of wear and tear. Easycare – unlike granite, marble and engineered stone, which need regular sealing and maintenance, agglomerate just requires a wipe over with a damp cloth. Resistant – agglomerate is
certificated to be highly resistant to liquids, chemicals, scratches, impact and burns and is harder than natural materials. Greener – made using a high percentage of recycled content like post-consumer glass and recovered granite and quartz, agglomerate is green by design. Affordable – agglomerate is fitted over existing worktops and other surfaces, making it cheaper, easier and less disruptive to install, with less waste. Versatile – fit it on top of worktops, vanities or wash stands, on floors, stairways and pool surrounds, as splashbacks, shower liners and panels. Beautiful – made with Italian granite, quartz or recycled glass, it’s beautiful in black, refined in earthen tones, brilliant in white and bold in primary colours.

But perhaps the biggest appeal of Granite Transformations agglomerate is that it will be measured-up, made off-site and installed by our factory in Banbury. What’s more, the expert, factory-trained fitters ensure a consistently high standard of workmanship and provide final proof that thinner’s a winner.

If your double glazing has misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 25 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps. Whilst a number of tradespeople
perhaps don’t focus on customer care as much as they should do, we make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. Locally Cloudy2Clear service Banbury & surrounding villages and manager James Miller agrees that this approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good
business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated as both my customers and, obviously a body as nationally important as Which? now recognise.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give James a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

How Osteopathy can help There is no cure for arthritis however osteopathic treatment can do a great deal to reduce pain, ease swelling and improve mobility and range of joint movement. The aim of treatment is to provide relief from symptoms, reduce pain and swelling, promote and increase range of movement and educate you on how you can improve your quality of life through posture and exercise. Osteopathic treatment involves gentle manual osteopathic techniques on joints, muscles and ligaments, and this may involve stretching, mobility, and traction techniques. Exercises to do at home may also be prescribed to improve joint function and to reduce muscle spasm. If you feel that Chestnut Osteopathic Practice can

SLIMMERS LOSE FAMILy CAR! Super slimmers in Banbury have lost a whopping 252 stones in weight – that’s the equivalent of a large family car, eg a Vauxhall Mokka.
All together the members of the Cornhill Centre & Hanwell Fields Slimming World groups are now 252 stones lighter than they were when Consultant Mel Allcroft took over the groups 11 months ago. The members, who attend the groups every week, follow Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plan created by the organisation’s team of expert nutritionists, which encourages them to fill up on satis-
fying foods such as pasta, rice, potatoes, lean meat and fish, pulses and fruit and veg. One member has lost 4st 5lbs to drop from size 18 to size 10. She says: “Filling up on lots of satisfying foods means you’re never hungry so I’ve never felt as though I was on a diet. Before I joined Slimming World I thought losing weight meant going to the gym and counting calories. But now I know it’s about making healthier choices about food and becoming a bit more active.

So, what does all this mean?
In real terms, you may find you are able to sleep better, have fewer colds, feel more confident and less stressed, to name a few. Ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation - all of these can be exacerbated by stress. So if you stress less, you’ll suffer less. Yoga, like any physical exercise, can ease constipation - and theoretically lower the risk of colon cancer because moving the body facilitates more rapid transport of food and waste products through the bowels. And, although it has not been studied scientifically, yogis suspect that twisting poses may be beneficial in getting waste to move through the system. Yoga quells the fluctuations of the mind, according to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra. In other words, it slows down the mental loops of frustration, regret, anger, fear, and desire that can cause stress. And since stress is implicated in so many health problems - from migraines and insomnia to lupus, MS, eczema, high blood pressure, and heart attacks - if you learn to ‘quiet your mind’, you’ll be likely to live longer and healthier. Yoga can be the catalyst to so many health and wellbeing improvements, and doctors even conclude that the benefits are there for us all to benefit regardless of gender, age, fitness and size.

Can Playing a Musical Instrument
make you
Brainier?
New research suggests that regularly playing a musical instrument improves cognitive skills in both children and adults, changing the shape and power of the brain and can increase IQ, according to researchers. Lutz Jäncke, a psychologist at the University of Zurich, said: “Learning to play a musical instrument has definite benefits and can increase IQ by seven points, in both children and adults. We found that even in people over the age of 65 after four or five months of playing a instrument for an hour a week there were strong changes in the brain. The parts of the brain that control hearing, memory, and the part that controls the hands among others, all become more active. Essentially the architecture of the brain changes. For children especially we found that learning to play the piano for instance teaches them to be more self-disciplined, more attentive and better at planning. All of these things are very important for academic performance, so can therefore make a child brighter. Of course music isn’t the only answer, but I do believe that it should be used in addition to other things.” Further benefits of learning a musical instrument for children include:
Playing an instrument teaches kids to persevere through hours, months and sometimes years of practice, and of course enjoyment, before specific goals are reached, such playing in a band, or memorizing a piece of music for instance. In group sessions, taking turns to play individually is the basis for classmates play, kids learn to ‘give and take’. What to consider when choosing an instrument: • Does your child like the way the instrument sounds, feels and looks? • Is the instrument to challenging or not challenging enough? • As a parent (and listener) can you like the sound enough to tolerate practice sessions? • Does your child like the type of music the instrument is catered towards?
Musical Instruments Sales, Rentals & Repairs Everything for Back to School Established 1993
• improving academic skills By understanding beat, rhythm and scales, children are learning how to divide, create fractions and recognise patterns, giving understanding to other areas of maths. • developing physical skills It enhances co-ordination and timing, perfectly preparing children for other hobbies, like dance and sports. • boosting self-esteem and social skills Children learn to accept criticism into positive change, building self-confidence and showing that no one is perfect and that everyone has room for improvement. Presenting yourself in public is an important skill and can be visited for the first time through music. Teamwork is required for example, to create a crescendo or an accelerando, working together to create a common goal. • refines discipline and patience The expression ‘practice makes perfect’ springs to mind!

Clean and safe ■ No mowing ■ No weeds No more muddy patches Hard wearing ■ Unaffected by weather/uv stabilized Green and usable all year round ■ Perfect for pets Finding an artificial grass product that has the look of natural grass was never an option until recently. But with developments in the last 4-5 years we can now offer you a choice of looks that will give you the dream lawn all year round. We can even fit a carpet that will look like a freshly mowed lawn in the middle of summer with a mixture of green fibres and beige to give that thatched look. We use a new monofilament fibre so the feel of the carpet is soft to the touch and friendlier to animals.

CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING
You can’t see it, taste it or smell it but it can kill quickly and with no warning. 6 main symptoms to look our for:
Carbon monoxide symptoms are similar to flu, food poisoning, viral infections and simply tiredness. That’s why it’s quite common for people to mistake this very dangerous poisoning for something else.Your symptoms only occur when you are at home and disappear or get better when you leave home and come back on returning with others in your household are experiencing symptoms (including your pets) and they appear at a similar time. If you suspect that you have inhaled carbon monoxide, then go outside and get fresh air immediately. Then, open doors and windows, turn off gas appliances and leave the house. See your doctor immediately or go to hospital - let them know that you suspect carbon monoxide poisoning. They can do a blood or breath test to check.
