WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY? Paula Adamson gives an insight into how Occupational Therapy is used for rehabilitation. Occupational therapists are skilled professionals who find solutions to everyday problems. For example, advising you on approaching a task differently, using equipment or assistive technology, adapting your environment, and finding strategies to reach your chosen goals. Occupational Therapy is a science degree-based, health and social care profession, regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council. Occupational therapy takes a whole-person approach to both mental and physical health and wellbeing, enabling individuals to achieve their full potential. Occupational therapy provides practical support to enable people to facilitate recovery and overcome any barriers that prevent them from doing the activities (occupations) that matter to them. This helps to increase people’s independence and satisfaction in all aspects of life. Occupational therapy input can take place wherever is most appropriate to the individual – the home, community or workplace.
Why use a private Occupational Therapist? The NHS is able to support people following an accident or illness however resources can be limited and many clients feel that additional input would help them progress further. Private input would normally (but not always) commence once a person has been discharged from NHS rehabilitation services.
About Paula Since qualifying in 2000 as an Occupational Therapist, Paula has predominately worked in the field of neuro-rehabilitation with adults over the age of 16 years. This includes acquired brain injury (such as a stroke) and other neurological conditions.

Marton Museum of Country Bygones – Heritage Open Days
13th & 14th September 2014 Marton Museum of Country Bygones, which provides a unique local insight into the past, will be open for Heritage Open Days from10.30am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday 13th and 14th September 2014. Admission will be free. Refreshments will be available in the Cricket Pavilion and there will be a vintage traction engine on site. Disabled access is available. The Museum contains a unique and extremely interesting collection of a large number of exhibits dating from the 17th century onwards and covering domestic life, agriculture, crafts and handicrafts all collected locally by one man, George Tims, throughout his lifetime. Calling all choir Accompanists Southam’s established Windmill Singers, in its 50th anniversary year are offering an exciting opportunity to a keyboard accompanist to attend rehearsals and take part in performances. At Easter this year it collaborated with a number of other local choral groups in performances of John Stainer’s The Crucifixion at Leamington’s St Peter’s RC Church and St Gregory’s Anglican Church at Offchurch. The choir, which has a repertoire of classical choral works in addition to show, traditional English and popular modern music, is invited to sing each summer at a UK cathedral – in 2015 Hereford! It also performs in various local charitable and community events including weddings and funerals. The choir also has an annual sell-out concert involving a wide variety of guest singers and musicians at The Grange Hall in Southam, this year on Friday 7th |November. The choir rehearses at St Mary’s School in Southam, Daventry Road, each Thursday evening between 8.00 and 10.00pm.
