2023-2024 LEVEL I INFORMATION FORM

Level I Excursions are those which take students to familiar settings within the local area for day time activities which expose students to risks typically encountered in everyday living or while at school and which involve local transportation either by walking, subway, city bus, school bus, or taxi Examples of Level I Excursions: trips to museums, local parks, a local store or neighbourhood, a library, an art studio, a concert hall, a theatre, another school, or athletic facility Parental consent for Level I Excursions is given at the beginning of each school year

Leave school at 8:45am by TTC (bring PRESTO card)

Attend the Red Maple Award Ceremony from 10:30-11:30am

Eat lunch from 11:30-12:30 outdoors

Visit the Festival events from 12:30-2:00 pm

Return to school via TTC by 3:00 pm (approximately)

MS individual students involved in the Forest of Reading program (approximately 20-25 students, to be confirmed)

We will:

● Attend Award Ceremonies for the Forest of Reading®

● Get involved in Author/Illustrator workshops

● Have author nominees sign students’ favourite Forest books!

● Take part in exciting activities and games

● Get excited for roving entertainment and vendors

● Meet fellow young readers

● Buy Forest of Reading books and merchandise Forest of Reading is an initiative to engage young readers to read for pleasure The students on this trip have elected to participate in the Forest of Reading and are avid readers. The Festival of Trees is the largest literary event for young readers in Canada and is like a “rock concert for readers.” This event is the chance to connect with the authors of the books they have read, meet other avid readers, and celebrate their participation in the Forest of Reading program

Approximate Cost Per Student Admission is free.

Students need to bring a packed nut-free lunch OR money (approx. $20-25) for lunch/snacks/drinks. Students should bring additional money if they would like to purchase books/merchandise/souvenirs (optional).

Special Considerations and What to Bring

Sun Protection: Where a trip involves your child being outside between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM, or the UV rating is predicted to be 3 or greater, to remind parents to provide children with the following: sunscreen, hat and water bottle. Sunglasses that protect against UV-A and UV-B rays are also recommended.

-Casual dress - bring jacket/layers as we will be outdoors beside the lake all day

-Sunscreen/sunglasses, hat, water bottle

-TTC Presto card (if aged 13 or older)

-Small backpack to carry belongings

-Bring a packed lunch or money to purchase lunch from food vendors ($20-25)

-Raincoat and/or small umbrella

-Allergy medication/inhaler/EpiPen (if applicable)

-OPTIONAL: Bring money to purchase books/Forest of Reading merchandise from vendors

-Cell phones are to be used for emergency purposes only (must be stored in backpack for duration of the day)

-Students are expected to adhere to the School’s Code of Conduct
