The Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys Basketball teams will participate in the Armbrae Classic Basketball tournament being hosted by Armbrae Academy The team will depart on December 8th, 2022 and return December 10th, 2022.
Enclosed with this letter you will find an Excursion Information Form that outlines the educational rationale for the trip, our activities, risks associated with the trip, important contact information, and financial information Please read the information carefully as it forms the basis of your consent for your child’s participation
This excursion plays an important part in the overall educational plan for your child, however, it must be understood that should you, the parent or guardian, not feel comfortable with the activities and potential risks associated with this trip, you should contact me immediately to discuss special arrangements that might be made to modify the trip for your child, or instead, alternative activities that your child might follow in the school
Once you have satisfied yourself as to the suitability of this trip for your child, please fill out the following forms online via YorkNet by Tuesday November 29th.

Please note that once you have provided consent to have your child participate on the excursion you will be charged for the expenses incurred on your child's behalf for this excursion Where, after you have provided your consent, notice is given that your child cannot attend the excursion, efforts will be taken to avoid incurring expenses on your child's behalf for the excursion, and you will be only charged those expenses that could not be recouped

Following this excursion the balance shall be calculated based on the actual invoices and the remainder will be billed to the student’s York School account
Students will require between $150 $200 for meals for the excursion

Activities to be undertaken by students:
Travelling by plane, taxi, shuttle, public transportation, by foot. Playing in a BasketballTournament, team building activities, team meetings, team meals
Student preparation for excursion: Attending team practices.Also, students will be informed of the specific trip rules that will apply They will also be provided with a packing list to ensure proper attire has been packed Once on site, students will be briefed on more specific objectives and additional on site safety rules

Specific Risks Identified:
Students may be exposed to a number of physical injuries including: cuts, scrapes, broken bones, bruising, sprains, head injury, concussions, and slips, trips, and falls from heights Students are at risk of temperature related injuries from physical activity outdoors While on this excursion, students are at risk of getting lost or separated from the group, as well as damage or loss of property While on this excursion with other students and staff, students are also at risk of exposure to COVID 19.There is also the risk of a traffic accident when en route.

Precautions to be taken to reduce or eliminate risks:
All coaches will have cell phones and be able to communicate any emergencies to parents immediately The staff is trained in first aid and there are medical personnel on site for games. There is a 7:1 student to staff ratio. Walking in open public areas, familiarizing oneself with the area using maps, questions, frequent rests and opportunities to stop and eat/hydrate Check ins with students to monitor energy levels and adjust accordingly Students will be paired with a buddy and must not venture out alone During independent time, students will be provided with a map of the area and geographic limits will be identified for students When partially supervised, students must be with their buddies, and when given the opportunity to venture away from the group, they must remain within specific geographic limits and will check in periodically with a teacher at a specific place and time. Students will have cell phone contact numbers for both teachers and the hotel Students will be made aware of the risks and will discuss the importance of being aware and vigilant Independent time protocols will be followed and will only take place in safe areas of the city Transportation will be with professional services such as a reputable airline, chartered bus or registered taxi, and public transit Teachers will travel with first aid kit and student personal information forms
Precautions to reduce exposure to COVID 19:
In terms of covid precautions, we will follow the school’s policy at the time of the excursion Further information will be shared prior to the excursion
Contingency plan for bad weather/trip interruption: Any transportation delays will be communicated to parents ArmbraeAcademy has an EmergencyAction Plan in place for all participants
Location of nearest Emergency Medical Service: While playing at various gyms in Halifax, we will use on site medical personnel
Arrangements to be made to transport person/group to EMS (including route to be taken): If required, MrDeMarinis will accompany any student to hospital In Halifax, the nearest hospital to the athletic venues is QEII Health Sciences, 1799 Robbie St, Halifax, Nova Scotia 902 473 2700 Mr DeMarinis will keep in contact withTheYork School and parents will be kept updated on the incident.
Additional Information:
Coaches will provide all athletes the opportunity to participate in games and develop their skills
SPECIFIC EXCURSION RULES
Dress: York apparel will be worn to and from games and on bus to Halifax Casual clothes can be worn in between games.
Accommodations: Students and coaches will be staying in twin rooms at Four Points Halifax.
Phoning home: Once our students arrive in Halifax, they may phone their parents inToronto at any point.
Curfew: Students are required to be in their room by 10:00 pm, or when directed by staff
Personal Electronic Equipment: Students are permitted to bring personal electronic equipment such as laptops; however, students are solely responsible for such items and should be aware of the risk of theft in hotel rooms or at the conference Students are encouraged to bring cell phones as they are a valuable form of communication with teachers while on the trip
Participation: Student participation in activities is mandatory and they must be on time.
Independent/Time: Students must stay within prescribed boundaries during free time and always travel with a buddy.
