2022-2023 LEVEL I INFORMATION FORM

Level I Excursions are those which take students to familiar settings within the local area for day time activities which expose students to risks typically encountered in everyday living or while at school and which involve local transportation either by walking, subway, city bus, school bus, or taxi Examples of Level I Excursions: trips to museums, local parks, a local store or neighbourhood, a library, an art studio, a concert hall, a theatre, another school, or athletic facility. Parental consent for Level I Excursions is given at the beginning of each school year

Activity Description and Educational Rationale

Students will be viewing both the Double Vision exhibit and the u n i t y exhibit. Students will investigate the impacts of early exploration on communities through the lens of art This activity will also introduce our next Unit of Inquiry on Matter and Energy Following the interactive tour, students will complete a hands-on textile workshop

Art connection: Students will investigate how textile arts can be used to tell stories, empower marginalised voices, and the role of textile arts & crafts in Inuit communities Students will apply what they’ve learned at the Textile Museum in their upcoming art unit, in which they will be creating their own textile design

Approximate Cost

Please note that once you have provided consent to have your child participate on the excursion, you will be charged for the expenses incurred on your child's behalf for this excursion. Where, after you have provided your consent, notice is given that your child cannot attend the excursion, efforts will be taken to avoid incurring expenses on your child's behalf for the excursion, and you will be only charged those expenses that could not be recouped.

$30-$40

Total cost includes: Textile Museum of Canada programme and staffing, Premier Coach Transportation

Costs will be levied to student accounts after the excursion.

Special Considerations and What to Bring What to Bring:

1 WATER BOTTLE: All students need to bring a water bottle

2 SNACKS: Students will have lunch at school before departing Students are permitted to bring a snack for the bus if they choose to.

We ask that all students exercise caution when packing snacks for the bus and are aware that people in our community have serious allergies to foods A NO NUT and NO PEANUT policy is in effect

3 CLOTHING: Students are asked to wear their regular school uniform for the trip
