THE YORK SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS Parent volunteers are at the school every day, running events and helping to build our school spirit and sense of community. Volunteering any amount of time is one of the most valuable ways in which you can get involved in supporting your child’s education. It is also a wonderful way to meet new people within the community.

CLASS PARENTS Class Parents connect each class’ parents with one another, as well as with the school’s administration more broadly. There are typically two volunteers per class and all parents are welcome to volunteer to serve as Class Parents. This is an opportunity for you to directly impact your child’s day-to-day experience at The York School by organizing activities and performing duties on behalf of his or her entire class. Most Class Parent duties can be done from the comfort of your own home and include: ● ● ●
Communications: introducing yourself to parents, welcoming new families, sending emails Events: Organizing the grade party and additional (optional) social events Teacher Recognition: Assisting with ‘Treats for Teachers and Staff’ and teacher gifts
The Advancement team is here to support Class Parents with email templates, sample spreadsheets and much more.
EVENT VOLUNTEERS Volunteers are involved with a wide variety of events throughout the school year. You can choose to help as an Event Chair or as an Event Volunteer. If you are a Class Parent or sit on the YPA Executive, you are always welcome to volunteer for an event as well. Event Chairs Event Chairs lead, organize, coordinate, execute and follow up on each event or committee activity. Co-Chairs are encouraged to attend YPA meetings in order to recruit volunteers and provide progress updates. The Advancement team assists event chairs with logistics and communications, as well as act as consultants to ensure volunteer-led events are run according to York policies and procedures. Event Volunteers Support pre-event, at the event and post-event with planning, logistics, set-up and take down.
SCHOOL SERVICE POSITIONS Library Volunteers You can volunteer for 1-6 hours per week when mutually convenient for you and the library at either campus location. Responsibilities include completing inventory, cataloguing books and assisting with other library tasks as needed. Event Photography There are many opportunities throughout the year when event photographs may be taken for the school’s use, including assemblies, athletics and/or field trips. Photography volunteers’ 4
images may be distributed to event participants as a special keepsake or used in school marketing materials, and are a great way of capturing all the exciting events that take place at The York School. If you have any questions about an event, or would like more information about volunteering, please contact ypa@yorkschool.com or indicate so by filling out this form.
ADVANCEMENT VOLUNTEERS The Advancement Office has a range of other volunteer opportunities available to parents who will act as key advocates and agents of the growing culture of philanthropy at The York School. The Advancement Office is committed to supporting the mission and vision of the School by deepening the culture of giving that will fill the funding gap between tuition revenue and the actual costs of running a world-class, leading institution in progressive, global education. Advancement volunteers are a vital part of this function that helps make York exceptional. Annual Fund Ambassador Volunteers in this role will help The York School community deepen its culture of philanthropy. As a volunteer you will be responsible for communicating the value and impact of supporting the Annual Fund and encourage members of the community to make a monetary donation. Volunteers will be asked to support the Annual Fund and participate in 1-2 focus groups to provide feedback and guidance to the Advancement Office. The Advancement Office will support volunteers in these roles by providing them with the following resources where applicable to the role and activities the volunteer is able to undertake: ● training and guidance on the role ● contact lists ● draft messaging for letters, notes and/or emails ● materials describing the applicable project ● donations forms and instructions ● suggested speaking points and responses for FAQ’s
