Open Work Imagination a structural change in workplace thinking...

it has become essential to re-evaluate the existing structure of thinking in order to create innovative workplace strategies.

The conceptual questions are proposed in the structure of a romantic mind-set, but the answers are provided in the structure of a rationalist mind-set.

overall we can easily say there is at least a structural problem in the way the workplaces are envisioned today.

The rigid and ready-made compositions do not match with the spirit of our age and its daily implications.

In doing so, I would like to evaluate the thinking of Umberto Eco in his discourse of the â&#x20AC;&#x153;open workâ&#x20AC;?

Eco suggests that; in the 21st century the work is not finished in the hand of the original creator but more so in the hand of the implementer, be it the musician, the artist or the architect.

The age of improvisation in all processes of a creative work is quite apparent and if we fail to tune in with this reality, we may create obsolete solutions for fiercely transforming work environments.

A place within a place A very basic approach is to define the relationship between inside and outside space with simple design proposals.

Open work imagination

/ A thema for 2013

Megaron is designed by Studio Kairos, as an abstract way of defining space in the open layout. The series is designed in the principles of â&#x20AC;&#x153;open workâ&#x20AC;? where all architects can organise the layout and the height and the composition, colours & textures of each single panel and their interrelation to their own way of planning.

The construction process of Megaron is the same of the bricklayers technique. The idea is derived from the basic respect and appreciation of the human hand and its capacity to generate, make and experience built structures.

The office layout can be a playground for each architect to create a unique topography. The way the space is managed would have the 21st century spirit of connecting people by all means while providing each single individual with a safe harbour to concentrate in.

The panels are constructed with a very light inner metal core structure, which is then covered by fire & smoke retardant Styrofoam panels that are injected in several sizes and shapes.

These foams are upholstered individually, and then the system is assembled without the need of a tool, thanks to clever connection parts specially designed for this system.

Each single tile can be planned in a different colour if wished so, and the tiles can be configured either in a vertically linear lining or in a brick tiling technique, again the decision being open for the architect.

Milonga is designed by Studio Kairos, as a very light and innovative system to create transparent division of space in work zones.

As well solid panels are presented with the same refined detailing where the glass and solid panels simply meet with no joints visible.

Within the same puritan language, door systems with hinges and sliding mechanisms are introduced. The sliding mechanism are detailed in a â&#x20AC;&#x153;state of the artâ&#x20AC;? level where each opening and closing is controlled in a unique & soft touch.

Koleksiyon Contract & Office Opening

“No more no less” : The building was a former crane factory as it was bought and renewed as a furniture showroom for Koleksiyon in 1994. In 2000 earthquake reinforcement works were undertaken. As it was decided this year to change the programme for the building from “Home” to “Contract & Office” a comprehensive regeneration project came into question.

The library contains barely books about design and architecture while providing users with ones ranging from sociology to science, from literature to economics, from ecology to philosophy -a conscious decision.

The showroom itself acts as an art gallery space as well, hosting temporary exhibitions and works of contemporary artists.

The “new” way of working in our projection of the coming years calls for creativity in all levels of hierarchy, thus blurring boundaries and requesting flexibity and clearity in the spaces we are experiencing. “Less” may fall short of covering our future needs while “more” may be proved unnecessary. “No more no less”, the reorganization of the building seeks answers to these questions as well as producing new ones.

We separate all the leftovers from any stage to be disposed in 25 different categories. Then specialists collect these articles to be recycled in most efficient way.

We have built one biological and one chemical filtering system in the factory. The output of these filtering systems are collected by companies registered to the Ministry of Environment.
