Increased Advocacy Efforts

resident's Message The consolidation of two strong state leagues into one powerful voice for Alabama and Florida credit unions has been realized with the creation of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU). We invite you to take a look at what membership will mean for your credit union as we begin our first year as LSCU. Our new corporate identity includes the enhancement of core services (Advocacy and Information) and an integrated Service Corporation with an expanded suite of products and services that will assist in meeting the needs of your credit union and its members. I am honored to be part of this new League and embrace the opportunity to bring best-in-class products and services to you as an inaugural member of LSCU. Your ongoing affiliation and active participation is vital to the long-term success and strength of the credit union movement. I can assure you LSCU will be a mindful steward of your dues dollars during these tough economic times with an operation dedicated to returning increased value of affiliation to our membership.

Representing 332 credit unions with $55 billion in assets and 6.5 million members allows LSCU to pack a powerful political punch and command the attention of lawmakers both at the state capitals and in the halls of Congress. This means we convey the “Credit Union Difference” and advocate on behalf of Alabama and Florida credit unions with a more powerful collective voice to affect positive change for our industry. The ever-changing political landscape of financial institutions demands consistent legislative and regulatory advocacy. The combined experience and collective knowledge of LSCU’s expanded Governmental Affairs Department allows us to put forth a proactive legislative and regulatory issues agenda to allow Alabama and Florida credit unions to expand and grow their services to meet the needs of their members.

Sincerely,

A greater concentration of resources allows LSCU to strengthen our localized grassroots advocacy efforts; providing more opportunities for you to be engaged in the political process to affect change for credit unions. Going forward, you will receive real-time updates on pressing legislative and regulatory issues so that you will be well informed of important legislative and regulation issues in a timely manner.

Patrick La Pine President/CEO League of Southeastern Credit Unions

LSCU is very much aware of the ever-increasing regulatory burden of credit unions. Our regulatory and compliance staff are working to lessen the burden through regular contact and interaction with state and federal regulators before rules are written to decrease the operational impact on your credit union. We will quickly disseminate and implement easy-to-understand compliance information to our member credit unions.
