THINKING THE EDGE – WATER & CULTURE Istanbul July 2013 is an international, multidisciplinary architectural event that wìll take place in Istanbul, focusing on building a natural environment and the notion of edge as a dynamic interchange among realities, materials, cultures, identities and memories. THINKING THE EDGE – WATER & CULTURE was born as a result of the previous successes of THINKING THE EDGE Milano 2010 and WATER FRONT Hong Kong 2011. Istanbul provides the perfect setting for an architectural event that explores the dynamic relations between water and culture, exemplified by an ever changing, multicultural society and its beloved Bosphorus. THINKING THE EDGE – WATER & CULTURE events will include: WORKSHOPS attended by students from twelve universities all over the world, SEMINARS and ROUND TABLES chaired by prominent representatives of the architectural and interdisciplinary fields, as well as EXHIBITIONS and a COMPETITION opened to students and professionals. The event will provide a forum and opportunity to meet a variety of well-renowned architects fromTurkey and from abroad.

Lectures by tutors and professors. Lectures hold by invited professors with international relevance. Final presentation and exhibition of the projects with invited institutions. Private architectural offices invited to participate with their projects. Cultural Institutions will be involved in the program. LOCATION The lectures and seminars will be hosted in the Istanbul Modern within the scope of YAP Istanbul Modern. The workshops with students will take place at the Chamber of Architects, Tütün Deposu-DEPO, Galata Greek School. The final presentation will take place at Istanbul Modern Museum. ADMISSION The participation to the workshop involves the payment of a fee for an amount of 300 euros/student including tutoring and the participation to all the activities, lectures, documentation included in the program. Travel, room and board are excluded. To formalize the entry candidates have to send their request to the organization with a synthetic portfolio and, after the acceptance, they have to finalize the entry with the payment of the fee. Fellowships or any other economical support has to be asked to the universities or institutions of origin. People interested in participating has to send an e-mail to info@thinkingtheedge.com to receive the relative information. The deadline for the submission is fixed for May the 31st 2013. A closed number of places for free participation is available for students attending the involved turkish universities. CREDITS The recognition of academic credits is demanded to each University.
