Assessment For Planning Kathy Nelson - Langley School District

The workshop is an optional two-part series based on the work of Jennifer Serravallo in her book, The Literacy Teacher’s Playbook Grades 3-6. During the first session, we will look at assessments for the start of the school year to get to really know each student with the option of attending a second session (Sept. 29) where we will spend time analyzing and determining the way to group our students and set goals to meet their needs.

Creating a learning environment that is both functional and inspirational can be difficult, especially if it has to be done quickly. This workshop is perfect for those new to teaching, changing grades, changing spaces or just wanting to revamp a classroom or particular space. Explore different learning spaces and their purposes. You will learn quick changes that can be made for free or at a low cost and have time to plan their implementation.

Understanding and Supporting Children & Youth Living With Grief

This workshop is designed to provide information on how the experience of loss due to death impacts students. During this workshop, we will explore how children and youth grieve different deaths, how they grieve differently than adults, how loss and grief impact learning and what caring adults can to support them.

All Grade Levels, SEAs, Clerical/CUPE, Student Support, Psychologists, Counsellors, ABSW, YCWS, Administrators *100% of the registration fee will be donated to the Langley Hospice Society to support their ongoing work.

Menu Mental Health First Aid for Adults Who Interact with Youth (MHFA) Angela Herd - The Family Hope Clinic

This 14-hour course is evidence-based and designed to increase awareness of the unique aspects of mental health problems in young people aged 12-24. This course has proven to increase mental health literacy, decrease stigma and increase helping skills. Understand signs and symptoms of a variety of mental health problems and disorders through a normative developmental lens. Angela Herd, Dip.CSW, BA, DVATI, RCAT, has over 20 years of experience providing mental health education and counselling services. She is the Past President of the Board of Directors for CMHA, South Fraser and was a Youth Advisory committee member for Langley Township for five years. She has supported children, youth and adults within schools, non-profit agencies, hospitals and private practice and is the founder and owner of The Family Hope Clinic in Surrey, BC.

This workshop will provide useful tips, strategies, and resources about organizing your room, getting to know your students, preparing and using initial assessments, developing an overview, planning for Meet the Teacher Night, and more in an effort to assist you in getting your year started in a confident and relaxed way.

Managing Classroom Management Brenda Barlow - Langley School District

Learn a variety of practical tips to help you to manage your classroom, including organizing the room, setting expectations, establishing procedures and routines, involving students, and maintaining control. In a wellmanaged classroom the students are involved with their work and they know what is expected of them. There is relatively little wasted time, confusion, or disruption.

Paula Kluth Dr. Paula Kluth is a consultant, teacher, author, advocate, and independent scholar who works with teachers and families to provide inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities, and to create more responsive and engaging schooling experiences for all learners. Paula is a former special educator who has served as a classroom teacher and inclusion facilitator. Her professional interests include differentiating instruction, active learning, and inclusive schooling. She is the author or co-author of more than 15 books and products including “Don’t We Already Do Inclusion?”, “From Text Maps to Memory Caps”: 100 More Ways to Differentiate Instruction in K-12 Inclusive Classrooms”, and “You’re Going to Love This Kid!”. Paula is also the director of a documentary film titled “We Thought You’d Never Ask”: Voices of People with Autism.
