As a committed and dedicated organisation, it is our goal to maintain a learner focus in providing accessible and quality education to directly prepare our students for further study, or careers in the I.T. and Business global economies. About CCT CCT was established to offer a unique educational experience, delivering computing courses that will provide students with the knowledge, practical skills and opportunities to progress in the competitive and ever changing global IT environment.

Special features of learning at CCT small class sizes, promoting an interactive atmosphere with fellow students and lecturers, excellent levels of academic support continuous assessment system used throughout all programmes in order to better prepare for end of semester examinations by learning in a progressive manner; career-based programmes aligned closely with developments and changes in the global IT industry; after-care academic tutorial support provided by lecturers outside class time; and class demonstrators used in practical lectures to help more students understand lab demonstrations.

CCT library The library and information service at CCT incorporates resources covering all the main IT areas and schools of thought, reflecting the academic focus of the college. The library contains a growing collection of online and actual resources on a variety of subjects, including: programming; systems analysis and design; web design and development; artificial intelligence; project management; network management and security; operating systems; ICT law; management information systems databases; computer architecture; business management; accounting and finance; economics and marketing; past examination papers, lecture notes and student dissertations.

Moodle Moodle is an open source course management system used throughout CCT. Students can access course notes of full- and part-time courses, past exam papers and sample assessments, conduct online exams and assignments in relation to the course material they are studying, and keep abreast of important social and academic dates.

Quality assurance CCT is committed to embracing an inclusive quality assurance culture, and has developed a number of policies and procedures to ensure that our courses and services are the highest quality in the IT education and training industry. At CCT, we are committed to enhancing the student experience by offering a range of services from careers information to social and sporting activities.

Accommodation service

Free career guidance

This service is mainly used by our international students. We can provide home stay accommodation with an Irish family, which suits your needs and special requests. CCT also offers advice on finding and sharing independent accommodation around Dublin.

CCT is committed to providing a free, learner-centred guidance and information service to our students, which is confidential, impartial, flexible and courteous.

Airport transfer The warm CCT welcome for our international students can begin with airport transfer to and from Dublin airport.

Information and publications The Student Office at CCT is an information hub and is always accessible. A course-specific student handbook is distributed to all registered students, which presents all the information you need to get started.

Student development programme Counselling service Although college is usually a positive experience, some students can experience difficulties. CCT offers a confidential counselling service, provided by a professionally registered counselling psychologist working as a consultant to the College.

Health service CCT provides a subsidised medical service, for a nominal fee per visit to a professionally registered practitioner. We can also arrange medical insurance at a reduced rate for non-EU nationals studying at the College.

Our Student Services Department offers a range of workshops and seminars throughout the academic year relating to such relevant subjects as stress management, study skills, communication skills and exam techniques.

Sports and social programmes We are always delighted to expand the range of clubs and societies at CCT, as determined by student demand. Opportunities for participation in sport and recreation at the College can be provided in nearby facilities, including soccer, cricket, swimming, badminton, basketball, indoor soccer, GAA and a gym.

European Certification of Informatics Professionals (EUCIP) – CCT101 Course audience The EUCIP programme is ideal for those with some practical and/or theoretical knowledge of IT, and daily computer users within the workforce with a good pre-intermediate knowledge of computing. It would be considered a non-essential advantage to have a basic, globally-renowned qualification such as ECDL.

Course overview EUCIP is a comprehensive foundation qualification for a range of computing jobs across all sectors. It also serves as a professional certification and competence development scheme aimed at IT practitioners and undergraduates. The objective of the programme is to offer certification of IT competence at an intermediate educational level to ensure a common standard, which is accepted by industry, government and public organisations. EUCIP will increase the labour market value of certified IT practitioners, and thus can contribute to the closing of the skills gap, which is threatening the continued development of the IT industry. Additionally, as an IT qualification, EUCIP also serves as a thirdlevel diploma course, from which further undergraduate and graduate studies can be undertaken.

ICS SKILLS is the skills and certification division of the Irish Computer Society. ICS SKILLS is a non-profit organisation that licences a range of IT training programmes from beginner to professional levels. It is a widely recognised awarding body in Ireland. CEPIS, Council of European Professional Informatics Societies, is a non-profit organisation, which aims to improve and promote high standards among informatics professionals, in recognition of the impact that informatics has on employment, business and society. CEPIS is made up of 31 informatics societies across Europe and plays a key role in licencing pan-European IT certification programmes. As a CEPIS-accredited qualification, EUCIP is recognised all over Europe.

National Framework for Qualifications EUCIP is rated at Level 6 on the National Framework for Qualifications. Level 6 is the advanced/higher certificate level, which is just below degree/university level on the framework. The EUCIP programme is also included on the Irish Department of Education & Science “Internationalisation Register”.

Duration/commencement dates Assessment CCT will conduct two sets of internal assessments at the end of each semester for all 18 modules taken. After a one-week revision class at the end of the programme, the ICS will supervise the administration of the final, online examinations for the EUCIP programme, results of which determine achievement of the EUCIP qualification.

One academic year. There are three intakes throughout the year: January, May, September.

Higher Certificate in Science in Computing in IT – CCT110 Course audience This full-time programme is ideal for any learner with an interest and motivation to embark on a Computing career. It provides a strong introductory foundation to the more pertinent areas within the field of Computing and Information Technology. No pre-requisite knowledge of Computing and IT is required to commence this course, but any previous knowledge, skills or competence in these areas would be advantageous.

Course Overview The overall aim of this programme is to provide its learners with the necessary theoretical and practical skills, knowledge and competence, to gain a comprehensive and specialised, strong foundation and understanding of the area of Computing in Information Technology. It is envisioned that graduates will be able to fulfil a wide range of entry-level roles within the industry, and/or engage in further study in a wide range of areas within Computing and Information Technology at Level 7 and Level 8. The achievement of this aim requires that the following general objectives are met: 1. To provide learners with an intellectually challenging and rigorous education and training in the area of Computing in Information Technology, that exposes learners to incremental levels of subject complexity as they advance through the programme allowing the learners to intensify their knowledge, skills and competency. 2. To provide learners with a strong introduction and foundation base within the broad area of Computing and Information Technology, from which further academic study can be undertaken at a higher NQAI level, across a range of subjects. 3. A key outcome of the programme is to produce graduates who can work effectively as individuals, in

teams and in multidisciplinary settings by recognising the need to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide variety of areas with the industry. 4. To make the learners aware of the need to continually maintain and refresh their knowledge and expertise, particularly in the rapidly changing Computing and IT industry. Once they have completed this course of study, the graduate should recognise the need to pursue Continuing Professional Development (CPD), demonstrating a capacity to undertake lifelong learning. 5. To enhance the abilities of the learners to work on their own initiative with a variable workload which may include periods of considerable pressure while still maintaining high performance standards and targets. 6. To develop the ability of the learners to be logical and creative in their problem solving approach.

Certified Information Technology Systems Administrator (CITSA) – CCT103 Course audience

Accreditation

The CITSA programme is ideal for those with a PC troublehooting, IT support, IT administrator or networking background. It would be considered a non-essential advantage to have at least one year’s occupational experience within the IT field.

The CITSA incorporates certification by the following leading IT corporations: Microsoft – www.microsoft.com, CompTIA – www.comptia.org and Cisco – www.cisco.com.

Entry requirements Course overview The CITSA programme is awarded by three leading IT accrediting bodies – CompTIA, Microsoft and Cisco. The programme covers computer maintenance and troubleshooting, networking, and software and hardware configuration, which are necessary to access a successful career in the computer industry, or to pursue further studies at undergraduate and graduate level. The CITSA programme is divided into four academic terms. On completion of each term, students will have an internationally recognised qualification. Students are positioned to undertake the following industry-recognised examinations: CompTIA A+ Computer Technician; CompTIA Network+ Technician; Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA); and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

The academic entrance requirements for CCT´s CITSA professional diploma programme are: Irish Leaving Certificate (final secondary school examination): Five passes at Ordinary level, including mathematics and any language. International equivalent academic entrance requirements can be ascertained by contacting us directly. As a guideline, international students whose native language is not English are required to produce an internationally recognised English language test score equivalent to a minimum score of 5.5 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam.

Duration/commencement dates The overall aim of the CITSA programme is to provide the individual candidate with sufficient practical and theoretical computer knowledge to pursue a technical career as a professional IT technical engineer. Each term of the course focuses on a separate key area of systems administration and engineering. Along with the range of expert knowledge and skills acquired, each successful student will obtain world-renowned qualifications incorporated under one heading, CITSA, to support their claim of expertise.

One academic year. Commencement dates for this programme are in the latter part of September each year.

COURSE CONTENT

Term 3 – Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) Install, configure, troubleshoot and administer to an advanced level in both Windows XP Professional and Server Operating Systems; Exam 70-210: Installing, Configuring and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional; Exam 70-215: Installing, Configuring and Administering Microsoft Windows 2003 Server; and Exam 70-218: Managing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Environment.

This programme is delivered over four eight-week terms: Term 1 – CompTIA A+ Computer Technician Introduction to the various components inside a computer; Installing, configuring and troubleshooting these computer components; and A+ examination. Term 2 – CompTIA Network+ Technician Introduction to the concepts behind computer networking and network design; and Network+ examination.

Post Graduate Diploma in ICT Management – CCT104 Course overview

Course audience

The overall aim of this programme is to present opportunities and significantly improve and develop the performance of graduates in a wide range of IT management positions, in small, medium or large organisations across the public and private sectors internationally. This will be achieved by the development of appropriate knowledge, skills, tools and techniques, which can be applied to advantage in the IT and business world.

The following are the minimum admission requirements for this programme: primary degree in the field of computing, or any other related field, awarded by a recognised institution/authority; or a minimum of six years experience within the industry at an appropriate level, and having satisfied an admissions interview with CCT faculty and admissions staff. International applicants whose first language is not English must produce an official test score of an internationally recognised English language proficiency testing system. The minimum English language test score requirement for this course is 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Official equivalent scores from other internationally recognised English language tests will also be accepted.

The specific objectives of this programme are to significantly facilitate students to: 1. Apply knowledge and skills in contributing to the strategic ICT management of an organisation. 2. Demonstrate cross-functional abilities in the IT management of a business or a significant project. 3. Demonstrate development of a range of transferable skills.
