the steps we endure to purchase food
N
obody loves grocery shopping, it is a process!
The steps we endure to obtain food. 1. Preparation to shop starts with... compile a list of things you need to purchase from the food store. Next, you want to make yourself store ready... always look cute because you never know who you will run into. If you are shopping with kids, don't forget to bring your mommy armor. A tablet, snacks, drinks and / or small toys that will keep them happy and busy for a few hours and allow you the opportunity to focus on the task at hand. Now you are ready to load into the car and battle traffic to drive to the store. My educated guess is you are at least an hour and a half into your food shopping process at this point. 2. Once you arrive at the store, seek out your shopping cart which sometimes may be a process in and of itself. Check out your cart for cleanliness and give a quick wipe with a disinfectant wipe to the cart handle. Blahk... who knows who or what germs were and are on that thing. Watch for the squeaky wheel. Nothing worse than being stuck with a shopping cart with a squeaky wheel when you are trying to shop. 3. Wander around the aisles of the food store and fill the cart with groceries all as other inconsiderate shoppers hit your cart, hit you with their cart and stand in your way in middle of the aisles as if they are the only shopper in the store completely oblivious to any one around them. 4. Approximately an hour and a half later since your store arrival, empty the cart of groceries on to the conveyor belt at the cashier. As at least five of the items you are trying to purchase are not coded correctly in the computer system and you need to stand and wait as the cashier hits a switch to alert a manager that she is in computer fail distress and requires assistance. After that issue is resolved, the people behind you in line are currently annoyed with you for holding them up with the things they need to accomplish as if you planned this computer glitch event as a personal attach on them, they start to slowly creep up on your cashier line inner personal circle space. Gently tapping you with their cart forcing you to inch forward until now you are stuck standing in the most narrow of an intersection the food store has to offer. The area where all the people are trying to push their carts down a little tiny narrow runway space to exit the store. They have achieved the goal they set out to do and nothing will stop them from exiting the building so yes, they will hit you with their over flowing carts packed full of grocery bags if you are in the way.
5. Place all your groceries that are being smashed together at the end of the check out counter in to flimsy plastic bags that only fit three items in each of them (if you are lucky) and place said bags back into the cart. 6. Take your life into the hands of others as you navigate a cart full of groceries hoping a bag does not fall over board through the parking lot as other shoppers feel the parking lot is a race track all as you struggle to find your keys to push a button to open your trunk as you maneuver a shopping cart with a bumptiy wheel probably either down hill or up hill. They design grocery stores with our cardio work out in mind by either strategically placing the store either down a hill or up a hill with the parking lot conveniently placed in the opposite of up a hill or down a hill from the store. Empty the cart of bags and play tetris to strategically place the bags to all fit in your trunk without damaging your bread or eggs which of course who knows which bag they are located in at this point. 7. Drive home crossing your fingers to not need to jam on your brakes for some idiot that stops short in front of you and causing all of your strategically placed bags of groceries to fall forward and fall out of the bags. 8. Once you arrive safely home, make a dozen trips into your home from the car to your kitchen carrying as many flimsy plastic bags full of groceries as you possibly can in one trip without a bag breaking. 9. Once all the bags are inside and you have cleaned up all the broken bags and picked up all the boxes of pasta that are now on your front lawn, the unpacking of the bags begins. 10. Create a huge mess in your kitchen by emptying the bags of food on to any surface you can find until all the bags are empty and in a pile on the floor in middle of your kitchen. 11. Place all the groceries in the respective homes you have found for them and throw away all the leftovers of dinner past that you found unrecognizable and hiding in the back of the fridge. Be environmentally responsible and throw away the sea of plastic bags to ultimately take up residency at the landfill. 12. Congratulations! Mission food shopping is complete. Start to finish four and a half five hours later, your grocery shopping is complete. Now that I placed that perspective on you of what we endure to achieve what should be a simple task of purchasing food, we realize, it is not easy and grocery shopping is in fact a ridiculous cumbersome goal to achieve. Must be a better way... yes... absolutely! You can go online order your groceries, select your delivery date and time. Wait for the delivery driver to arrive at your selected time that fits into your busy unique schedule and watch him bring your groceries into your home for you and all you need to do is say thank you and unpack them and put them away.

control your credit score H
ow do you control your credit score and stay on top of not becoming a victim of identity theft? It's not as difficult as you may think. With all the technology available and rising number in identity thief cases, it is imperative that you keep your FICA score in check. Sign up for a free service creditkarma.com they never ask you for a credit card number. The service is 100% free. When you sign up the site gives you a ton of free credit advice and tools to manage your credit and make your credit score the best it can possibly be. How do you keep yourself safe?
* Set notifications up with your credit card companies stating they need to notify you when a purchase exceeding x amount of dollars takes place. My cards are all set to send me an email and text notification over $200 Over $300 they need to call me and provide me with an approval code to supply to the cashier to complete the transaction.
* Stay on top of your credit score on a monthly basis and sign up for the alert system. You will be notified if any change takes place almost immediatly. Our best defense is the power to know if a problem is on the rise. Quick action and response saves a lot of headaches down the road.
* Check your snail mail daily. Don't leave your mail sitting in the mailbox for days at a time before you check it. This allows opportunity for thieves to get a hold of your sensitive information. This happens more frequently than you may think.
* Change all of your internet passwords monthly. Keep a list of all the websites you frequent with all your login and password info. Change everything including your wifi password, social media and emails, especially banking.
* Go paperless. Go green and cut down on paper and the chance of your account numbers falling into the wrong hands. Ask all your financial institutions and utility companies to either e mail you a bill or opt to view them online only.
* Debit cards, who needs them. If you have a credit card, use it. Don't go crazy and accumulate debt you don't have the means to pay but utilize it for the every day purchases. At the end of the month, review your credit card statement to determine how much money you spent on each category of your life. Such as food, fuel, clothes, doctors ect. This will help you grasp a better handle on your finances by knowing where exactly your money is going each month and where you need to make changes in your spending habits, if needed. Pay off the credit card each month prior to the due date. Don't touch your bank account except for once a month when you sit down to pay your bills and handle your monthly finances. Do away with the debit card. If your credit card number falls into the wrong hands a few things will happen. 1. They can only rack up what your credit card limit is. 2. Credit card companies are very knowledgeable and easily handle fraud claims to make you not responsible for the expenditures. 3. The money in your bank account will not be touched. If someone gets a hold of your bank debit / credit card they can wipe out your entire bank account and fixing that with the bank is a timely stressful endeavour. Eliminate those bank cards.
* Credit card and insurance company surf. Every three months or upon insurance renewal. Do a little investigative shopping. Make sure you are paying the best possible (meaning lowest) annual percentage rates and insurance premiums you possibly can. A few dollars here and there adds up quickly. Keeping a handle on your money and staying up to date on your credit saves you a ton of time, energy and money in the long run. Setting a side time each month to follow these tips will allow you to better control your credit score and your finances.

ARE YOUR KIDS HEALTHY .
We've all heard the cliches that start, "back when I was a kid..." and we have all rolled our eyes at our elders for saying it. Now, here we are in our thirties and I'm sure you've used this cliche once or twice now too. I know I have. The truth is your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and now you, were right when telling perhaps exaggerated life stories. Things were different for them and now you, than it is for the children of today. In terms of health, things have changed dramatically and unfortunately they have changed for the worse.. Did you know that according to the Center for Disease Control, childhood obesity has more than doubled in the last thirty years and quadrupled for adolescents in the last thirty years? This is a startling fact, but really should come as no surprise since one third of adults in America are obese. You don't need to be a psychologist to recognize that we, as adults are not leading by example when it comes to health. As a mother, I've never been a fan of other "know it all" moms or "better than thou" relatives or friends, but for the sake the children in this country, I am going to be that annoying friend and I'm going to preach for a bit. So here it goes! We have a huge problem in this country. Its an epidemic and it's called laziness. If you want healthy kids, it starts with you... mom and dad. You are the leaders of your family and you need to be healthy yourself. If you don't exercise and you don't eat healthy, it should come as no surprise to you when your child develops health issues to include obesity, type two diabetes,
osteoarthritis, cardiovascular issues and self esteem issues to name just a few. I have taught young children health and fitness for many years and what I have seen is startling. More and more children are "sitting out" of activities. I have witnessed kindergarten children and first graders so exhausted after simple warm up exercises that they can't continue. Kindergarteners... really? This is supposed to be the age of endless energy and these kids can't handle a few jumping jacks and toe touches. Then the parents arrive to pick them up and the prevalent pattern emerges. The overweight parent is picking up their overweight child. Don't get me wrong, this has nothing to do with aesthetics. It has everythinbg to do with health. Parents need to stop expecting teachers to school their children on nutrition and fitness and they need to start changing the entire lifestyle of their families. End rant. I'd like to offer some guidelines that parents should and need to follow to ensure their children are healthy. Your child should exercise at least sixty minutes everyday. Exercise should be a combination of aerobic, bone strengthening and muscle strengthening activities. Keep activities "age appropriate" so that your child can keep focus and can improve on their skills. Lastly, I'm not a fan of "diets," especially when it applies to children. Make healthy eating fun. Cook healthy recipes, make different colored smoothies. Come up with cute names for foods such as catepillar kabobs with your children. If you need ideas, choosemyplate.gov gives parents great ideas and recipes for kids nutrition. The key to a healthy and happy family is simple.

myth busters -the truth on working out during pregnancy written by - shana groenveld
I’ll never forget the multiple conversations that I had with family, friends, clients,
and co-workers upon spreading the news that I was pregnant with my first child. The initial congratulations and excitement, quickly turned to worry filled thoughts about my future. They all were concerned after hearing the news that I was going to ruin my career. As the owner of a fitness and dance studio and the primary instructor, they all questioned what I would do. Who would take over my classes? Everyone (and I do mean everyone) advised me to “take it easy” and not workout. I remember a specific telephone conversation with my brother who was stationed overseas at the time. The happiness in his voice turned to concern when he said, “what about your business, what are you going to do?” I remember my response, “I’m pregnant, not dying!” I learned quickly as my belly grew, that the common believe among spectators was that a pregnant women should not or could not participate in fitness and everyone was waiting for the day that I would stop Nevertheless, the stubborn person I am went on a mission to prove to all the doubters that pregnancy, although not always a walk in the park, is not a crippling disability. In fact, its quite the opposite. Exercising while pregnant has unbelievable benefits for both you and your baby and finding the strength to continue your workouts throughout your pregnancy can be so empowering for the mommy to be. I taught my fitness and dance classes up to and even on the day my son was born. Now pregnant again with my second child, I plan to do the same. My son was healthy, has great rhythm (from all the dancing), and I quickly recovered both emotionally and physically after the birth of my son. You should always consult your doctor before trying exercise, but here are a couple of the myths I managed to bust during my first pregnancy adventure: Myth bust 1. Stay away from Abdominal Exercises- Absolutely Not! In Fact, the bigger your belly grows, the more you need your abdominals to be strong. If you have weak abs, your lower back will arch and you could suffer significant back pain. Background Double Page Solid-Blue If your abs are strong and you train yourself to keep them engaged (pelvis tucked under, belly button pulled into the spine), you will be able to support the growing baby. You should avoid exercises where you lay on your back for too long. Some great abdominal exercises included standing pelvic tilts, tightening and releasing your core, and planks. Myth bust 2. You shouldn’t participate in high energy / cardiovascular activities such as running or aerobics - It’s true that If your pregnant, now is not the time to pick up a new hobby such as running, however, according to the National Academy of Sports Medicine, If you were running prior to pregnancy, you can continue to do so during your pregnancy as well. As long as you feel OK you can continue to participate in cardiovascular activity all the way up until you are in labor. If you did not exercise before you were pregnant, its not too late to start. However, set smaller goals. Go for walks and lift light weights as opposed to running and heavy weight training. Myth bust 3. Working out will make you even more tired! - Actually, its the opposite. Exercising can actually help you fight some of the daytime fatigue you may encounter while pregnant and it can help you to get better sleep at night. The best advice you will ever receive when your pregnant comes from within: listen to your body. You know yourself better than anyone else does. If something hurts or feels wrong, then it probably is and you need to stop and consult your doctor immediately. Through both my pregnancies, I have learned that there is nothing more amazing, and at times exhausting, than having life grow inside of you, but you have the ability to provide so many great benefits to both you and your baby for an enduring experience. So disregard the old time myths and the Naysayers and then hit the gym for some mama-to-be and baby-to-be time!

STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY DURING TICK SEASON . It is that time of year again and ticks are running rampant in our yards and parks. It is important to keep ourselves, our children and our pets safe. Identification and protection is key. If you do find a tick on you, pull it off using a tweezer and be sure to get close to the skin so you do not leave the head behind. If you do, it will eventually fall out much like a splinter will eventually work its way out from under your skin. Don't worry, a tick does not grow another body. When you separate it, it is dead. Try to remove the head with the body to ensure less of an exposure to any disease they may be carrying. If you are unsure what kind of tick it is, place it in a jar or zippered bag to bring with you to the doctor for identification. There are several types of ticks. Most troubloesome being the "dog tick" and the "deer tick". The American dog tick or sometimes called wood tick, scientifically known as Dermacentor Variabilis is bigger in size, brown or reddish brown in color and are more easily spotted crawling on you and or your pet. Although it is not known to carry Lyme disease, it has been known to carry Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Tularemia. It also can or may carry staph infection, which could be passed to you during the bite. If this happens, you will notice a welt on the skin at the site of the bite which may spread or turn a deep red and harden. This too will be very itchy and by scratching the infection spreads. You will need to see your physician for an antibiotic. The doctor will probably test for Lyme disease just to be on the safe side. The "deer tick" or black legged tick is a little trickier. These pesky
biters are better known in the scientifc world as Ixodes scapularis are the ticks that carry Lyme disease. They are tricky because they are more difficult to spot. They are about the size of a poppy seed and are black. More often then not the young feed on small mammals and birds while the adult feed on deer and larger mammmals. They do not typically choose to feed on humans but will if the situation presents itself. Also, according to the Center for Disease Control, Lyme disease is not present everywhere the "deer tick" is found. Unfortunately for those of us living in the North East, Lyme disease seems to be prevalent. Because this type of tick is so tiny, many times we are unaware that we were evne bitten but, if you see a bullseye red mark on your skin, chances are extremely high you were bit by the Ixodes Scapularis and the best thing to do is to see a physician as soon as possible. Okay, so we know ticks are going to be around so now what do we do about it? Well, there are ways to protect yourself and your family. Be aware of your shoes. Yes, your shoes. Spray them with a repellant containing Permethrinl. Most of the time, ticks especially are low to the ground. They like tall grass and piles of dead leaves. As you walk they attach to shoes first and

then they will climb up your clothes. Usually on the inside so the next step would be to create a barrier. Tuck your pants ino your socks, or spray both the inside and the outside of the bottom of your pant legs. I realize it is summer and we want to wear shorts but you shouldn't if you are going to be hanging out in grassy or woodsy areas. I do spray my clothes but I do not use harsh sprays on my skin. What I do like to wear which I have found very effective is rubber rain boots. I live on a farm with lots of grass and woods and yes, lots of ticks. I have found ticks on me when I wear sneakers. My husband and I recently started wearing rain boots when gardening and doing yard work. When we do, no ticks. If we forget and wear sneakers, we alwasys find at least one. So, the best no chemical discovery for tick prevention is rain boots. Of course we spray the outside of the boots too for an exrra safety measure. One last thing and an extra, extra safety measure, throw your clothes in the dryer on high for about fifteen minutes. That should kill anything that made it past your other barriers. Don't forget to check your pets and talk to your veterinarian about a monthly treatment for your pet, and a good flea and tick collar. pack the protein - healthy kids What is a parent to do when the little one makes the
decision to be a vegetarian without even knowing what that means? For whatever reason, he just doesn’t want to eat the meat you put down in front of him. He doesn’t like it or doesn’t even want to try it. Are you doomed to have a nutritionally deficit child? Is there any place to find a protein source that he will eat? The good news is that yes, there are protein sources to give your child that do not include meat. Lets keep in mind that children do need a range of 0.44-0.55 grams of protein per pound daily.
Dairy:
And to round out the dairy category there is yogurt. Greek yogurt contains the most protein at 12 grams per container.
Peanuts and Nuts: Peanuts are technically a legume, but they are always listed with the nuts so why break tradition? And what kid does not like peanut butter and jelly? And if your child likes peanut butter maybe they would enjoy almond butter or cashew butter. Any nut can be made into a butter, so why not give them some variety away from the typical peanut butter sandwich which contains about 12 grams of protein per sandwich.
Soy-based Foods:
There are quite a few protein sources that are in the dairy category. Cheese is a good one. Grilled cheese sandwiches are good lunch choices for kids who do not like meat. You could match that grilled cheese with a nice tomato soup. This was one of my favorites as a child. And there are so many different cheeses out there, hopefully there will be a cheese your picky eater will like. Of course I have found that yellow American cheese is one of the favorites. American cheese contains about 5 grams of protein per slice.
This section is a little trickier when it comes to children and why they made the choice to not eat meat products. But, it is worth a try. There is soy milk, soy yogurt, and even soy ice cream for those kids who are lactose intolerant. And for kids who just don’t want to eat animals there are soy products that taste just like the meats but no animal was harmed. Eight ounces of soy milk has 8 grams of protein and if you serve up a 1/4 cup of cooked soybeans your child will be snacking on a healthy 7.25 grams of protein.
There is also milk. An 8 ounce glass of milk or chocolate milk packs in 8 grams of protein.
But please limit their intake of soy products
to about 10 grams per day and get the rest of their protein from other sources. And always look for the non-GMO label.
Vegetables: Yes. You can actually get protein from vegetables. Almost all vegetables contain protein, but of course some have more than others. I am going to list beans under this category and a serving of beans contain about 9 grams of protein, Here is a list of the top vegetables containing 3 grams of protein per serving. This list includes asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, artichoke, watercress and sweet corn. Enjoy!

Watermellon Grill You need a mini watermelon and blackberries to serve as the charcoal. Get grapes, strawberries, blueberries or any of your favorite fruits to skewer onto the kabobs. So simple, yet so adorable! You could also use carrots as the legs for the grill.
I was lucky enough to be invited to attend a taping of the Rachael Ray Show with Thirty Something Magazine. Despite the rain and frizzy hair, we had a blast! I want to share the adorable BBQ that they taught us how to make and also the delicious steak and deviled egg sandwich that Rachael auctioned off for $100 to benefit her charity, Yumm-o!
Steak and Eggwiches INGREDIENTS 2 pounds flank steak, at room temperature Canola oil Salt and pepper Granulated onion, about 1/2 teaspoon Granulated garlic, about 1/2 teaspoon 10 eggs 2 tablespoons grated onion 1 large clove garlic, pasted About 2 to 3 tablespoons mayonnaise 1 rounded tablespoon yellow or Dijon mustard 1 rounded tablespoon dill or sweet pickle relish 2 teaspoons Tabasco (depending on how hot you like it) 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce or to taste 6 sandwich English muffins or large buttermilk biscuits, homemade or store-bought, split and toasted Chopped lettuce, finely chopped tomatoes, finely chopped red onions
PREPARATION Rub room temperature steak with oil and season with salt, pepper, granulated garlic and granulated onion. Preheat griddle over medium-high heat. In a pot, cover eggs with water and bring to a rolling boil. Remove from heat, cover and let stand 10 minutes. Crack the eggshells and soak in cold water to loosen. Peel eggs and place yolks in bowl; chop the whites and reserve on cutting board. Mash the yolks with salt, pepper, grated onion, garlic, mayo, mustard, relish, hot sauce and Worcestershire. Taste to adjust seasoning; and stir in the whites. Grill steak 8-10 minutes turning once. Let rest a few minutes then thinly slice on an angle against the grain. Assemble sandwiches on toasted muffins or biscuits starting with chopped lettuce, tomato, red onion, a few slices of steak then top with deviled egg salad and set muffin or biscuit tops in place.
Grill The Best Burger
Half way thru summer... did you perfect your hamburger grilling technique yet??? 1. Salt and pepper - A lot of salt and pepper season with salt and pepper until your eyes water and you sneeze. Just turn your head. 2. Size matters - Shrinkage will happen... use a quarter pound of meat per burger. They will look large in the kitchen but when they come off the grill they will be the perfect size. 3. Flip once and get it hot - Pre heat the grill... once it is good and hot toss your burger on. Don't touch your burger again for five minutes. After five minutes flip. Don't touch again for another five minutes. Pull it off the grill. 4. All about the bun - Kaiser rolls are better are the only option for the perfect burger experience. 5. Keep it clean - Position your spatula a few inches from the flames of the grill. The heat will kill any bacteria from raw meat.
Pineapple Punch The heat of the summer has me craving tropical fruits, like pineapples. Here is a punch that you can serve in a pitcher to your girlfriends pool side. 1 cup – hot water 1 cup – raw sugar 3 cups - pineapple chunks or half a pineapple 1.5 cups - rum ½ cup – lemon juice 2 cups –iced lemon & lime carbonated soda
Directions Mix sugar into hot water Add pineapples to sugar water and let sit for 2 hours in punch bowl After 2 hours, stir in rum, lemon juice and soda in that order Mix and serve over ice cubes in a tall glass
Enjoy!
Are you one of over 70 million adults not getting proper rest? Not much can make you feel better than a good night’s sleep, and few things have as powerful an influence on our lives and health. Sleep restores and recharges us, keeps us healthy, and can even affect medical conditions such as diabetes and weight gain. Good sleep is vitally necessary for good health. Inadequate or poor quality sleep has been linked to physical and mental problems including fatigue, stress, and even weight gain. But most people do not get the amount of quality sleep they need on a consistent basis.
How well do you sleep? Take this test. Do you sometimes have trouble falling asleep? During the night, do you toss and turn? In the morning, are you tired, instead of refreshed and ready to go? In the afternoon, do you feel tired, sleepy or have low energy? Do you feel sometimes that your sleep was not enough to help you meet the demands of the day? Do you ever take medication to help you sleep? Do you ever take medication or caffeine to help you stay awake? Do you sometimes wish your mattress were less soft or less firm? Is the firmness you chose a compromise between you and your sleep partner? Do you ever feel hot or cold while you are trying to sleep?
If you answered “yes” to some of these questions, you’re ready to sleep better. Some people have been using sleeping pills. Sleeping pills make you breathe more slowly and less deeply. Did you know the FDA requires manufacturers of Ambien and other popular sleep medications, to offer lower doses for women? Women clear the drugs from their systems more slowly than men and the agency says blood levels of the drugs could still be high enough the following morning to affect activities that require alertness, such as driving. It is important to learn about the side effects of sleeping pills. Some common side effects of prescription sleeping pills such as Lunesta, Sonata, Ambien, Rozerem, and Halcion may include: Burning or tingling in the hands, arms, feet, or legs Changes in appetite Constipation Diarrhea Difficulty keeping balance Dizziness Drowsiness Dry mouth or throat Gas Headache Heartburn Stomach pain or tenderness Uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body Unusual dreams Weakness Not to mention addiction!
A sleeping pill may be effective at ending your sleep problems short-term, but it's important to make sure you understand everything you need to know about sleeping pills.
This technology addresses the factors that are crucial in assisting you to get the sleep you need. It adjusts your environment to meet the conditions required for quality sleep. These include:
What if the bed you slept on makes a difference? While bed mattresses of 40-50 years ago were made mostly from untreated natural materials, the majority of mattresses and beds today are made using a variety of petroleum based chemicals, foams, plastics and controversial flame retardants. Research and personal accounts suggest people can become ill after repeated and continuous exposure to these chemicals while sleeping. The situation is dramatically compounded by the fact that sleeping on a bed (or chemically manufactured pillow) places the individual in close proximity to the chemical source (inches compared to feet for most other chemical exposures). This close proximity means that concentrations of chemicals are many, many times higher for the individual. Research is now available showing that chemicals used in bed manufacturing are in fact evaporating and entering into the air. Some of these are documented carcinogenic and mutagenic compounds. Common petroleum based chemicals have been clearly shown to have the ability to weaken or damage the immune and nervous system. Autoimmune disorders have also been linked with exposure to petroleum-based chemicals and have been found to be the underlying cause of many common health problems today (soft tissue damage, organ and brain damage, arthritis, etc). If you have had any new health problems immediately after purchasing a new bed it is essential to remove the bed from the living area (ie. to the garage) and seeing if health problems stop. The permanent solution to the problem is to purchase a natural or organic bed from one of the increasing number of stores selling these types of products.
Proper support. Incorrect spinal alignment or localized pressure points can cause more than discomfort. This may lead to tossing and turning or even interrupt the sleep cycle.
What are your children sleeping on? Research has pointed the finger towards toxins in baby mattresses causing S.I.D.S. Babies immune systems are weak and when they lay down, they can absorb the toxins and out-gases from the mattress chemicals. The answer is found in nature. The Earth produces a magnetic field that reaches from pole to pole. And throughout history, human beings spent their waking and sleeping hours surrounded by this magnetic field. This environment is what the body is accustomed to. But modern civilization and man-made structures have lessened this effect, and today you are isolated from this natural phenomenon. Except when you are on a Kenko Sleep System. It features a grid of magnets that replicate the Earth’s magnetic flow, producing a cocoon of magnetism that envelops you. This helps restore the natural balance between the sleeper and the physical world. You’ll find these magnetic components in the Kenko Naturest® mattress topper and pillow, Kenko comforters and KenkoNaturest® Travel Pillow. In combination, they surround you in this cocoon of magnetic energy. Nikken has developed advanced sleep technology that helps you stay healthy and get the rest you need. The Kenko Sleep System is scientifically designed for better sleep. Innovations including Nikken RAM™ (radial-axis magnetism) Technology, a massage-effect surface, natural temperature regulation and more, provide you with an extraordinary sleep experience.
Temperature regulation. Variations in temperature may also interrupt the sleep cycle, particularly in those stages where the body's own temperature regulating mechanism is temporarily suspended. A relaxing, calming atmosphere. Ambient conditions and massage effects are known to be beneficial in promoting better rest and helping the onset of sleep. A more natural sleep environment. Both the individual technologies and the materials used in Kenko Sleep Systems are intended to bring your sleep area as close as possible to nature, more in accord with the conditions normal to the human body. Nikken Adaptive Sleep Technology includes features that support each of these needs, and more. No other sleep system offers this kind of innovation ˜ multiple systems designed to optimize your sleep surroundings. It’s soothing, passive stimulation — no external power source is required. Every time you move in your sleep, the textured surface help to ease tension. It not only helps you get to sleep — you wake up feeling as if you just had an invigorating massage. Rid yourself and your family of chemicals and pills and get rejuvenated naturally.

perfecting resumes
One of the first steps in selecting a new employee, or selecting an employee for promotion in a competitive working environment is to solicit and subsequently review resumes from numerous job candidates. Resumes may initially be scanned to eliminate candidates who simply do not qualify for the job.
If there are numerous candidates for few job openings, the resumes are compared, often side by side, to select the best candidates for an interview. In a few cases, generally when candidates have a rare combination of skills and experiences, there will be only one candidate for a given job. Thus, the resume merely needs to be adequate, and the candidate will be asked to come for an interview. In most cases, there will be multiple resumes and only a few candidates will make it to the interview stage. Whether or not one makes it to the interview stage is partially a game of chance (e.g., was the resume reviewer in a good mood or a bad mood when they saw your resume, or did they even look at it, was the resume reviewed before yours good or bad) on the other hand there is a lot a candidate can do to increase the chances of being selected for an interview. Candidates who submit resumes which are Results Oriented And Relevant (ROAR) are likely to Generate Realistic, Outstanding Wins (GROW). So, here are some tips to help you to have your resume ROAR so that you can GROW: 1. Read resume books and websites for tips and suggestions, but remember that following the book will produce an average (or a C) resume. Outstanding (or A) resumes get the interviews. Hiring an inexpensive resume writing service will, most likely produce a C resume as well. Hiring an expensive, quality, resume writer may help you to gain an interview, but then at interview time your resume may not match your interview discussions. On the other hand, having multiple critics and reviewers (paid or unpaid) reviewing multiple iterations of your resume will help you to perfect your resume. 2. Produce a unique resume, which looks good online or printed, including the proper keywords for automated matching tools, tailored to each position you are applying for showing why you are the perfect match for the job. Remember, your resume is your sales pitch – not your life history.
3. The most important sections of your resume (outside of the contact information) in the writers opinion are: a. A brief statement which clearly shows the employer that you are highly relevant to them -- you have done your homework, know what the job is all about, demonstrate what you can and will do for them, show how each of your experiences makes you the best candidate for the job, and reflects your enthusiasm. Oftentimes, candidates will write a statement which is all about them – their personal goals or what the employer can do for them. This type of statement is not productive, and may be harmful. Some candidates do not include any summary statement. Indeed many professionals will say not to include a summary statement. In this writer’s opinion, that is doing yourself a major disservice. If you were in sales, would you ever want to present a sales pitch or facts and figures without showing the customer how your product will best meet their needs? b. Your education, especially if you are just entering the work force. c. A listing of your experiences. Generally, this section is best organized in reverse chronological order showing the name of your employer, your dates of employment, and some descriptive text. Oftentimes, job candidates err by explaining their responsibilities in this section. In many cases the responsibilities can be inferred from the job title, thus the space is wasted. In other cases, there is no reason for the potential employer to care what the responsibilities were. What is critical here is to be results oriented. You should list several bullets showing how you excelled in the position. For example, if you were a grocery store clerk instead of saying you scan groceries and count money you might offer that: Customers seek my register because I am the fastest, most accurate, and most friendly cashier. I always recommend value add to my customer, often increasing sales by 20%. 4. In response to the common question how long should a resume be? Some people will argue it should be a page long, others a page and a half, some will argue for two pages. The best recommendation I can make is to complete a draft.
Then read it from top to bottom objectively. After reading each phrase ask yourself (or ask your reviewers) did that phrase increase the chances that the reader will want to read more or call me for an interview? If so, keep it, if not cross it out. Repeat this process until you have not crossed out anything for 2 or 3 readings. You now have the perfect length resume. 5. On occasion individuals will be absent from the workforce for several years, perhaps raising children or taking care of elderly relatives. Upon attempting to reenter the work force they ask what to put on their resume. My best recommendation is to continue leadership roles in community organizations, professional organizations, and/or further education during these gap years. Include all of your accomplishments in these roles in the experience section of your resume. Some job candidates ask if they should include raising family as one of their experiences. My answer to that question is would you want to work for an employer who would not hire you because of your decision to attend to your family? Just be convincing in your presentation that you are now highly skilled and ready to assign a high priority to your employer’s work requirements.

COOPERATIVE COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT IN THE WORKPLACE Today's work environment in the USA is one in which all employees really need to work together to optimize company performance. On the other hand, the environment is also a competitive one. Employees may compete with each other for sales to increase their commission, appraisal ratings, larger salary increases, prizes, awards, promotions, remaining employees, more desirable time off, more desirable work shifts or assignments. Inappropriate corporate policy or inappropriate administration of corporate policy may lead to lack of cooperation amongst employees and poor business performance. Several years ago I attended the Society of Human Resources (SHRM) Human Capital Leadership Awards program and had the opportunity to listen to the keynote presentation by Mike Abrashoff, who was the second captain of the USS Benfold. Mike reported that when he first took over command of the ship his direct reports were not working togethers as a team. They expected that one of them would be promoted and the others would be fired. The environment was clearly all competitive, no cooperation. Mike needed to reverse this. He explained that all needed to work together for the ship to be successful. He said that if the ship rose to be one of the most successful in the Navy he would probably be able to get two, not just one of the direct reports promoted. He would get the remaining people a desk job wherever they wanted in the country and would provide them with great references to transition to civilian life. If the ship remained the lowest in the navy, none may be promoted, all fired. Under Mike's leadership the Benfold rose from being one of the lowest to the best ranked ship in the Navy. He delivered
on his promise. While Mike could not change the basic Navy policy, through effective observation, interpretation, communication and hard work, Mike shifted the balance between being an all competitive situation to being a cooperative, competive situation. He increased the performance of his ship from being one of the worst in the Navy to being one of the best. All of his direct reports benefited, though some benefited more than others. Not all examples are as extreme as Mike's, corporate policies which reinforce only competition (such as evaluating and paying employees based solely upon their individuall performance, not based upon their helping others or promoting the business) may increase competition to unhealthy levels, encourage infighting and decrease overall business performance. Even very simple policies like inappropriately managing equipment and supply budgets can lead to disagreements which hurt business productivity. If your business is not performing optimally or has more infighting amongst employees than you would like to see,
please start to correct this situation by looking at your business processes, evaluation system, rewards and salary increase programs. Determine if you are unintentionally encouraging infighting and discouraging cooperation through the way you administer these programs. Correct your shortcomings, and observe an improvement in your business climate and productivity. All of you will be happier and quite likely increase your earnings as well. I would like to thank Industrial Consultant Dr. Margarita Posada Cossuto for helpful comments.

Perceived Value Many thirty something entrepreneurs produce packaged goods ranging form jewelry, cupcakes , chocolates, soaps, handbags and custom invitations. The bottom line with all these products is that customers want value. One cost effective way to increase your product's perceived value is by upgrading its packaging.
Picture this, a woman sees her boyfriend kneeling holding a small custom designed box in a distinctive blue color. The color is synonymous with opulence and has its own moniker, Tiffany Blue. This glossy token is adorned with a thick, double faced white satin ribbon tied with perfection, the company's signature wrapping. Filled with excitement, she knows the brand of her gift in an instant.
First impressions are fleeting and memorable. Eye catching, heart stopping innovation packaging captivates your cutstomer long enough for them to pause. The pause creates a purchase opportunity.

they think as they decide to purchase your product. Another component to luxe packaging is the customer's anticipatory response to a multilayered, unpacking experience. Imagine, your customer buys two products, one for herself and one as a gift she has shipped from your company. The receiver pulls the sturdy cardboard package from her mailbox and is thrilled when she sees your logo and website emblazoned around the edge and on the packing tape. Anticipation grows. Let the show begin
"That's quality!"

The customer is intrigued, they pick up your product. Now the real experience begins with a tactile interaction as the customer feels the sturdiness of the box, the thickness of the hang tag, or how creatively the packaging opens to reveal the product. What sound do you want to make in the marketplace? A loud, visual impact that screams this year's trends? A sleek, modern design with distinctive taste? Or, maybe the soothing whisper of classic, traditional comfort.
As she carefully cuts the tape and opens the cardboard flaps, she notices the thoughtfully designed custom interior printing, interesting tissue paper, and a sturdy closure sticker. She pauses, studies the details and smiles. What a pleasant surprise! The thrill continues as she gently pulls back the tissue to reveal your product presented in a luxurious box. She admires the beautiful box and places it as a keep sake on her desk. Perhaps it will hold special tokens or her favorite pens. Regardless, she sees it every day and is reminded of the moment when she opened your package. Next time she has a gift to send, she will buy it from you. You just made another customer.
Luxe packaging comes in many formats, from understated to glamourous. There are an abundance of options to take your brand to the next level. They can range from a well designed closure and lovely interior printed box to a thick fabric pouch, lucite container or metal charm like tag. It's not all about the looks. Luxe packaging can also integrate a touch element. Take boxes for example. Do you choose an exciting, high gloss coating or a fashionably classic matte finish? Want even more of a tactile experience? Use a thicke, rigid embossed stock. The design and style choices are limitless and customizable to your brand. Imagine your customers running their hands over the box and touching the shiny, foil hot pressed lettering. "That's quality!"

Will You Take A Break? In a few short weeks summer will be upon us! The weather will be warmer, kids (and some of you) will be out of school, and you may be wondering if you can squeeze in a long overdue vacation. Maybe you’re thinking to yourself, “I can’t see my way clear to take time off right now. There’s just too much work to do, and I never feel like I’m caught up.” Sound familiar? News Flash: When you reach your golden years you probably won’t complain that you didn’t get enough work done. I used to visit nursing homes with my kids when they were little, and let me tell you, those residents mostly lamented about the good times, and many wished they’d taken more vacations. So my challenge to you before June 15, is this: Book some time off (don’t worry about how you’ll spend it just now), and clear your schedule. Everything else you do will get worked around this valuable time off. Besides, when you read the rest of this newsletter you’ll find out about some added perks when you return from a good rest! I’ve noticed that with each vacation, whether it’s one day or 2 weeks, a new idea, insight, or solution to a problem tends to appear a few days after I return. It’s happened so often, that myself and my clients have learned to trust these positive results to occur. This is one of the reasons I clear my schedule on a regular basis, so the natural flow of ‘new perspectives’ can happen. Here are some tips for your successful vacation: Choose to trust the time off (no matter how small) will give your brain the rest it needs in order to reboot, and regenerate. Truly unplug. What’s the point of taking a vacation if you are still locked into social media and email? Most things are not so urgent that they can’t wait until you return. Let your boss and co-workers know that you are going on a ‘digital diet’. Lead the way here! Plan ahead and let people know you’ll be away. I send a preliminary announcement a couple weeks ahead, and then another one a few days prior to leaving. You can always leave an emergency contact number with your assistant, friend, or family member. Be sure to set your email vacation responder too. Place as much priority on this as you do planning your trip. Remove expectations. Having specific outcomes you want to have when you return will not help you relax on your vacation. There’s really no way to predict or guarantee a result you want. Go with an inquiry to ponder, instead of expectations. Notice I didn’t say ‘think about’ or ‘find a solution’. Those are all expectations. Instead try open ended inquiries like: What might help me be more organized?, or What (or whom) will I say ‘no’ to in order to better enjoy my life? Then let it go and trust the process. Finally, go on vacation and have tons of fun! When people reach the end of their life, they don’t usually say, “Man, I wish I had worked more and taken fewer vacations!” I’m pretty sure you won’t either. Remember, your vacation doesn’t have to be long, and you don’t have to go anywhere. Staycations are a wonderful way to give you the rest you need, with little or no preparation required. My ideal staycation is spending time in my home doing projects I never seem to have time for, and going to my favorite spa, www.theivydayspa.com. Spending just a day there has me feeling as though I’ve taken a whole week off! Happy Vacationing!

What happens when we can't focus? Written By - Shirley Oya
What happens when you can’t focus: 1. Your brain is so full you can’t think. Stressed Business WomanWhat’s happening in your brain: There is too much electrical activity in your pre-frontal cortex (click here: to learn more about the pre-frontal cortex). What you can do: Get your ideas down on paper as quickly as possible. You can organize it later, but doing this will free up space in your brain so you can focus better. The morning is a great time for this practice. 2. You feel overwhelmed. What’s happening in your brain: Same as in #1 – your brain is over stimulated. What you can do: Do something that activates another part of your brain. a) Stop what you’re doing and spend a moment listening solely to the sounds around you b) Activate your motor cortex by taking a short walk. This one has numerous benefits. The trick here is to deactivate your pre-frontal cortex to allow for new insights to appear. Let your boss and co-workers know this is recommended by many neuroscientists! 3. You can’t focus on an important project. What’s happening in your brain: Not enough dopamine, the chemistry of ‘interest’ or ‘novelty’. What you can do: Change it up! a) Change your physical position. If you are sitting, stand up and look out a window. b) Take a break and listen to a joke, or read a short, interesting article. This should re-charge you enough so you can return to your task with fresh eyes. If you are anything like me, you might find it hard to resist the temptation to work harder. What we know, thanks to neuroscience, is that taking a break, while it may be counter intuitive for some of us, really is the best solution for working smarter.

REARRANGING IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL I will admit I am a chronic furniture re-organizer and a compulsive re - decorator. From the moment I was old enough to move furniture I started rearranging my bedroom. For me it's about editing, redefining the space, breathing new life into it and creating a new look without spending a dime. There are times that the $5 perfectly matching candle I found at Pier 1, that is tucked away on a shelf, may constiture an entire living room furniture rearrange. I love to witness moving a picture from one wall to another and see the transformation take place. The colors in a photo can appear differently in its new home depending on how the light hits it during a certain time of the day. All of the decorative accents surrounding that picture might even have colors in them that really come through, all because of moving one photo. "Sometimes there are pieces we would love to highlight in a space but they have become lost among clutter and lack of flow. Edit the things that arent't working. They may function better in another room,. Or, they may be the perfect item to let go of. Clearly defining how you wish a space to function is the key to a successful furniture and decor rearrange. Deciding on the focal point in the room will allow you to determine where the furniture will be best placed. Always avoid overcrowding and blocking entrances. Think simple and light. If you have made a decision to embark on a journey of rearranging and redecorating, chances are there is something lacking in the space for you. While it may never be perfect, it will absolutely

IDEAS FOR RETYING THE KNOT Nearly a decade ago, I was an enthusiastic bride to be. Planning what would be a memorable event for seventy of my and my groom to be closest friends and relatives in New York City. I was actually quite a gracious and laid back bride to be. My bridesmaids found their dresses in one NYC shopping trip. I scouted not one, but two affordable venues in Manhattan for the ceremony and reception. I showed up on time, my groom to be showed up. We said our vows in front of a beautiful backdrop and that day was absolutely memorable. Yup, that day was memorable all right... We were marriend in late August of 2004 on what was possibly the hottest and worst day to wear a wedding gown, slip and petticoat. While I knew there would be a risk to having a wedding in New York City while it was hosting the Republican National Convention. I did not realize my nuptials would actually be interrupted by a swarm of unplanned parenthood protestors (or supporters, I don't remember now.) My now husband lost his photo identification only two days before we were to get our marriage license. Plus, unexpectedly, for our honeymoon, we did a bit of Caribbean Island hopping. Due to being chased back up north thanks to hurricanes Frances, Ivan and Gaston. Yay! (Sigh)
While I will not say my wedding was a complete disaster for the aforementioned reasons, and a few others, I do plan to renew my vows in celebration of our tenth wedding anniversary later this summer. Mainly to undo the trauma I have been living with for the past ten years. Whatever your reasons for retying the knot, (pinterest did not exist back then, your minister was drunk, you caught your cousin with the best man and you can't erase the image from your mind) here are some ideas to consider when planning your vow renewal. Realize it is not a total do over. There are some things first time brides to be can do, that you really cannot or should not do when you are already married. Forget that bachelorette party, for instance. First of all, you are not a bachelorette. Second, the hubby may not really like the idea of the mother of his children

being entertained by some fresh faces, chiseled ab stripper. Also, nix the idea of setting up a wedding registry. Seriously, you'll just look greedy and your guests may wonder why you haven't bought your china set these past years. Then again, it's your day. Do what you want. I didn't have a church ceremony the first time around. I wasn't particularly religious then, but it is actually a regret of mine not to have had a church ceremony. This time around, I plan to have our civil vows blessed at the church we attend and have had our children baptized in. One of the benefits of renewing your vows is not having the requirement of getting a marriage license or being limited to who can officiate your ceremony. When you renew your vows, your best friends can officiate. Your children can officiate. If your church permits, you can have your spiritual leader officate, even if he or she did it the first time around. If you didn't have a huge celebratory bash the first time around, you can do it this time around. Which leads me to my next point... Feel free to splurge. Why? Chances are, you earn more money, so you have more money to spend the second time. Also, if you have been planning for years, you may have the opportunity to save a little here and a little there to a small fortune for a huge bash at an exclusive country club. Or a small bash and a pair of Louboutin heels. One common reason why brides renew their vows is because they could not afford to have a large reception to host all of their loved ones. A vow renewal gives those brides a chance to do that. Include some of the kiddies. One thing that may be different from your wedding day and your vow renewal day is the presence of children. Chances are you have some kids of your own, and your friends do too. It may be important to seriously consider having children young and old at your renewal. Personally, I feel kids make the party anyway. Much like your wedding years ago, your guests really won't give a damn. Just like your wedding, your guests will only care about the open bar selection. They are not going to care about the minor details. Case in point, I took inspiration from just about every bridal magazine ten years ago, but I can't tell you what my wedding menu optionw were. If you can't remember whether you
served filet mignon or chateaubriand as your beef serving, your guests won't remember either. In fact they will not even care. As long as the spirits are flowing, the music gets them on their feet and the distance between the ceremony and reception didn't require a time zone change, your guests are going to have a grand old time at your expense. When it comes to vow renewals, just like your wedding the first time around, the sky's the limit when it comes to ideas about planning the big day. Whether you are celebrating after five, ten or twenty five years of marital happiness, when planning your vow renewal there are some ideas to take into consideration like the presence of children, the prospect of a larger budget.
LOVE YOURSELF TO ALLOW LOVE TO FIND YOU .
It's summer! Sunlight, the beach, suntan oil, the smell of fresh cut grass and lemonade are in the air. Not to mention, long sultry summer nights and lazy beach days. Those sultry nights and long summer days are better when shared with someone special. Dating season is in full swing. Summer loving... yes please! I am a firm believer that in order to find love, you must first love yourself. If you don't love you, how is someone else supposed to love you? Makes sense right? Self love means taking time for you, knowing yourself and your inner wants and desires., learn to reward yorself. Here are a couple items to think of going into the summer dating season to help you feel fabulous and ready for love. 1 That amazing dress or beautiful pair of shoes that you can't stop thinking about. That one that never went on sale. You know, the one you dream of and have pictures of. Do it! Buy it at full price or hit those fabulous consignment shops. No guilt allowed! Enjoy and rock it! Look and feel incredible. Hmmm.. I am thinking... Jimmy Choo, Chanel, Manolo Blahnik. 2 A great eyebrow shaping or maybe some new bangs. Open up those eyes for the world to see ladies. The eyes are the window to the soul, so make them pop. 3 A new set of great sheets. Think sex appeal in the bedroom
my friends. Sheets are where it starts, or ends up. Create a sexy place and sexy things will happen. Manifest your desires. 4 Selfies, a gorgeous pic of yourself, take one, even if it takes over one hundred shots to achieve the perfect pic. 5 An all day chick flick fest, complete with comfy pj's, popcorn and all the junk food you desire. Invite your gal pals over and make it a party. Guilt not included and not necessary, check any and all guilty feelings at the door. 6 Forgiveness to yourself and your past relationships is necessary. This not only will release some of that underlying tension but will make more space for peace and love within you. Loose the baggage ladies. 7 Take a well deserved break. This can be a nap, a bubble bath, a stop for your favorite coffee treat, or for that wonderfully delicious martini. 8 Enjoy a yummy meal. Forget the diet for tonight. Let your tongue be tantalized. Ladies, we are extremely lucky to have some of the best variety of absolutely amazing and mouthwatering food readily available to us. A great steak, incredible Italian cusine, succulent seafood, maybe all of the above. Add wine and a couple of friends and it becomes an instant party. 9 Get a massage, because it just feels great.

10 Make a plan for at least one vacation next year for you. Your needs and your desires. This can be a day trip or something more exotic. New England is full of beauty and adventure. Schedule the time and add it to your calendar today. 11 Get out and exercise. Invest in a gym membership or get in tune with your outdoor diva self. A new pair of running shoes will get you outside. Exercise is the most rewarding and feel good activity you can possibly do. It promotes good health, releases tons of feel great endorphins that make you feel sexy. 12 Do something that is on your list that has never been fulfilled but you want. Be purely selfish here. Remember the number one rule to success is that you have to take care of you first. If you don't take care of that inner goddess, there is no way that you can be at your best for others in your life. Love yourself to allow love to find you.

"Feel fabulous and ready for love."
fashion is a family tradition by danielle romano As a child, I loved watching my grandmother get dressed on the weekends when I visited her. She pinned down her adornmens on her shirts until they were flawlessly placed. Enormous blossoms ready to bloom gold and silver.
She decorated her ears with dainty and sometimes bold hardware that came to life with shimmer and shine. Always bright and reflective circle layers around her slim fingers. The first ring was always a fine gold band. The second, a chunky costume piece that formed elegant chandeliers on her hands. I always thought she sparkled like a sequin. Her blouses were always bright royal colors that caught my eye and she seemed so light in them, she glittered. Her shoes and bag always matched. She even dressed her lips up to luster oh so subtly. I would think, "my grandmother is a classy gal." That is also the phrase I heard my grandfather use to refer to my grandmother, his classy gal. They appeared so sophisticated togerher. As she moved so did the spicy scent of Elizabeth Arden pefume. I loved it too. I wanted to wear lace edged socks and patent leather shoes. I wanted my hair arranged in a french twist braid. My favorite recollections are sneaking up to her bedroom on luminous weekend mornings, standing in front of her dressing table. I would pretend I was her, clasping on her necklaces with draping strands around my neck, thinking to myself, "how did she look so delicate when she did it herself?" I was in awe of all of her gold treasurers with jewels. Her jewelry boxes opened to me as though they smiled in a delighted surprise. Did she know how I admired her? Playing dress up in her temple of dreams was what I looked forward to the most when I went for my visits with her. I looked forward to raiding her closets for high heels just to prance around the house pretending I was her. I hope she knows that she is one of the most important inspirations for what my future would become. Yet again, I don't think I even knew back then. Thinking of those tender moments now with my grandmother makes me want to deaign a cameo that smiles.
Refocus For Happiness A Quick Tip By Patty Mosier What is happiness? Everyone's definition is different. Some say it is overrated, some find it in everything. Some people think it is a feeling, a special moment or lots of little moments tied together. Some even create and practice it as a lifestyle. I personally find happiness in many little moments throughout my day. I am happiest when I spend time with my son or when I accomplish a goal at work. When I receive a hug from my best friend, that makes me feel ecstatic. Happiness can become clouded if we allow it the opportunity. Every day struggles and stressors may allow us to block the feeling, thought and or act of happiness. Focus on the positive and not the negative in every situation. When darkness rears its ugly little head, stop, take a breath and think for a moment. Most things that we allow ourselves to get under our skin and block days full of happiness really are not that big of a deal once we break down the situation in our thought process. Taking this moment as a time out will allow you to refocus on any situation with a smile.
Mix Metals
T
he hot accessory trend I am loving this season.... mix your metals. It has always been a tricky situation trying to decide if you want to wear gold or silver and never daring to make the risky move of collaborating both at the same time. Mix it up and be unique. The perfect look... layer bangle bracelets. One silver, one gold in the middle and another silver. The look is beautiful. The same layering effect works with necklaces. The sooner we all come to terms with fashion is fearless the more fashionable we will all become. Throw the old fashion rules out the window and create new ones. The new rule is... anything goes. Embrace your inner fashion trend setter. It is all about the accessories baby... layer on the jewelry.

5 beauty supplies you want Look younger in 5 easy steps 5 beauty tips you need to know about... look younger in 5 to spend money on easy steps. I am all for saving money however, there are five beauty supplies you don't want to skimp on. 1. Shampoo - A good shampoo is the equivelant of medication for your hair. This is not a place to cut corners. Hair health is important for protecting those locks. 2. Foundation - Skin health is very important to hide the signs of aging. Save on the eye liner and blush but not on the foundation. Cheap foundation equals cheap coverage. 3. Flat iron - Billions of flat irons are sold in every retail establishment under the sun. Do your homework and a little googling will save you from frying and causing permanent damage to your hair. 4. Hairspray - A good finishing spray makes the difference of a bad hair day and a good hair day. When it comes to how you feel about yourself don't be frugal. 5. Razors - A good multi blade razor saves time and injury. Think about it...
1. Concealer liqud - The click pen type is proving to be the best available. Other liquid types tend to cake and actually create skin tone to look older. 2. Skip the powder - Powder can be heavy and cause a caking effect and cause lines to be accented and stand out. If you are a powder junkie only use translucent and apply sparingly. 3. Instant cheek lift - Apply blush along highest points of cheek bones to emphasize bone structure. Work with colors that work for everyone. Hues of apricot, warm pinks and bronzes. These colors look more luminous and youthful. Tap liquid hghlghter from your cheeks to your temple for an extra healthy glow. 4. Reconsider your color palette - Dark eyeliner will make dark circles stand out try brown or a nude eyeliner pencil, to brighten your eyes. 5. Lighten up the lipstick shade - As we age dark hues make lip lines stand out and dominate our face. Use a more natural tone with a gloss and shimmer for instant younger looking lips and face.

Splash Into Summer 201 4 Swimsuit Trends Jaimie Donnelly
White pants, strappy sandals and the sound of seagulls only means one thing, Summer! The wait is
finally over and the reward of warm days on the beach are ours. However, anxiety over what to wear has not subsided, especially when it comes to swimsuits. I will be the first to admit that there are times I have looked in the dressing room mirror and went, ‘you look hot’, but most of the time I am on the floor in a heap of tears. Fashion trend information generally lacks swimsuit suggestions and often tosses our way yet another bikini. Being in the thirtysomething age group provides us a variety when it comes to shapes and the 2014 season introduces a lot of creative ways to make a classy splash in the ocean. Bikinis have never gone out of style since their introduction in the 1950s. The amount of fabric, of course, has altered decade after decade from full coverage to g-string. With the creative shapes this season, they are not reserved just for teenagers. Matching prints, as in floral or paisley, are a tasteful choice for women in their thirties. With the 1980s neon colors all the rage, block color, full cup and bottom bikinis provide a sportier look that not only give boost to your cleavage, but hides the seconds you had on pasta the night before. Sporty bikinis, as seen in the early 1990s are very trendy and come in various colors and prints from black to English plaid. Bikini cuts are great on athletic or hour-glass body shapes. If you are like me and traditional bikini cuts are not your comfort level, vintage cut bikinis, think 1950s version of tankinis are your answer. Recently, singer Cher Lloyd sported a pink and white gingham high wasted bottom and halter full-cup top bikini. This vintage style comes in various colors to match your level of girly comfort from basic black to white lace. What is fantastic about this cut is, depending on the color and print you select, is appropriate for any age and makes one feel sexy without over exposed. For our younger gals, try a pretty baby pink and lace version and for our over 40 crowd, a sultry navy blue would provide sophisticated mystery. Vintage, high wasted two-pieces look great on women with an apple or athletic shape. Long gone are the days of tankinis and skimpy triangle bikinis, and welcome back my favorite, underappreciated cut - the versatile one-piece. One-piece bathing suits are no longer boring, nor reserved for sport swimmers or grandmothers. The variety of cut, color and fabric surpass the traditional or vintage bikinis. One-pieces are now the most popular cut and can be worn by all body shapes. One of the most popular fabric look is knitted or crocheted, think hippy-like. The knit can be layered over another fabric or used to connect a top and bottom combo for a sexy see-through appearance. Strapless one pieces provide the less fabric feel, while still covering your midsection and allowing your sun-kissed shoulders to show off. I have one in medium blue and take my advice, this cut is not the best for jumping in the ocean. While it is great for tanning, it does not have support on top in case a wave comes crashing your way. Modern monokini’s (not to be confused with classic ones, which are topless!) are one pieces with various cut-outs in the center. It provides the appearance of a bikini, while still giving you the support of a one-piece. Monokini’s come in various cuts from midsection to open backs and open lace in the hip area. Depending on where the open portions are on the bathing suit, it can help provide a beautiful silhouette. Lastly, my favorite universal cut that not only is sexy, but classy. The one-piece suit that is either halter or low cut in the front. This cut provides the allusion of cleavage, while still having a more classic appeal. It is great for any body type, specifically pear shapes, as it take the eye away from the tummy and hip area and brings it towards the beautiful confident smile you possess while wearing this cut. This cut looks best in plain colors or color block. 2014 is all about experimenting with fabric and color, while embracing comfortable traditional styles. Pair your new suit with a see-through chiffon cover, a large hat, sunglasses and spf and do not forget to take a dip in the water in between sips of your pina colda.

thirtysomethingmagazine My name is Dani or Danielle, whatever suits you! I’m “Thirty Something,” I forget?! I enjoy glimmering promenades on the seashore, pink carnations by the bushels, and partaking in disco dancing. Yes, I’m a cheap date to say the least! Oh wait… This isn’t my bio for a “dating site”…? Just jesting! Okay, okay, here we go for real: I’m not really an enthusiast of any of those things (except maybe the pink carnations… I do like a cheap flower that never dies). More earnestly, I would describe myself as unyielding, a good listener, an educator, and a baking extraordinaire; If only I sampled my own goods? I’m also a mammoth fan of athletics, whether it be participating or just watching, “college,” yes college sports (I find them to be more exciting, since the subjects aren’t being paid loads of money and they are still passionate). I love to watch the news, read a plethora of books, also Jeopardy is my go to at 7:00PM, Eastern/Standard time. So if you’re a subscriber whom doesn’t mind spending your time doing those amazing things, you will definitely love my column! One more thing you should know: I don’t have a dog named Brutus, and oh, I have a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, as well as Bachelors in Fashion… Aka, “Human Ecology” with a Concentration in Apparel and Textiles and perhaps a Minor in Business?! If you do decide to read my monthly column, you should definitely have a sense of humor (big plus if you’re sarcastic as well). I’d like to think that I am an accepting, wholehearted, and intellectual being. I love to write and be creative, especially in my fashions, art, writing, home décor, photo, educating… And to do it with great big smile, that doesn’t hurt either. I just really want to be able to relate to a surplus of other woman my age and have a good, healthy relationship with my fellow readers. I want readers to be able to relate and be comfortable delving into the most current on-goings. BTW, I’m human, I have real woman’s issues; health (Type I Diabetes, since the age of nine and on an insulinpump/struggled with an eating disorder), relationships, family, work… What to wear in the morning?! On the more serious side, I do also hope to relate to woman on a number of levels, in various subjects and ways.

My name is Lauren Silveira, owner and founder of Organized for Life, and a lifelong resident of RI. I have been in love with organization and design for as long as I can remember, always dreaming up ways to make spaces look beautiful and simplified. Drawn to helping others get organized I would always volunteer to help family and friends with organizational projects around their homes. I studied Fashion Merchandising/Business Management and worked in retail for many years. I then transitioned into account management within the consumer goods industry. Not feeling fulfilled in my career, and a true believer in following in the direction of your dreams, the Organized for Life blog (subscribe here!) began in 2010. It was, and still is, the perfect tool for me to showcase my love of organization, design and keeping it simple. Guided by the encouragement of family and friends, in March of 2012, I took a leap of faith and Organized for Life became a registered business serving all of Rhode Island. It has truly been a dream come true for me to help others embrace simplicity and work through the clutter to embrace their space!
