The Glastonbury Auction Kurt Jackson 2007

Kurt Jackson

Invitation

Kurt Jackson is a formidable artist, whose mixed-media works are influenced by natural history, environmental and ecological issues, and politics. In January 2007, a review by Simon de Burton in the Financial Times described Kurt’s “deft touch with brush and palette knife,” and acclaimed him as “one of Britain’s most compelling contemporary painters.”

Kurt Jackson cordially invites you to an auction of his paintings, in aid of Oxfam

In 1999, Kurt became Artist in Residence at Glastonbury Festival, where he sets himself tight deadlines to capture the spirit of this unique event.

With a special guest acoustic set

Kurt, who has spent time painting in the developing world and has witnessed the effects of people’s poverty, donates all the proceeds of his Glastonbury works to charity.

Thursday 3 May, 2007 Opens 7pm, starts 7.45pm The Hospital 24 Endell Street Covent Garden London WC2H 9HQ

Kurt Jackson and Oxfam This year, Kurt is supporting an Oxfam project in QwaQwa, South Africa, visited recently by Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis. Emily met Pastor Mary Crockett, a remarkable woman who founded the Pheko ka Kopanelo HIV and AIDS hospice and rehabilitation centre.

The centre houses terminally ill patients, and helps infected people to live with the disease. Pheko ka Kopanelo (which means ‘united for a cure’) also trains foster parents to look after children who have been orphaned by the HIV and AIDS pandemic (and who are likely to be infected themselves) – and provides training for young people and former patients who are well enough to work. Students learn computer literacy and financial skills to improve their chances of finding jobs, or starting their own businesses.

The proceeds from the sale of Kurt’s paintings will go towards Oxfam’s support of Pheko ka Kopanelo.
