THE HOUSE
Ihave a confession to make: until last year, had never heard of the Ojude Oba Festival. Yes, you read that right. accidentally stumbled upon it when I came across Niyi Fagbemi’s viral video coverage of the festival. And from the reactions saw online, was not the only one in my generation who was in the dark about this grand event. Lol. I was immediately captivated by the vibrant display of colours, culture, fashion, glamour, beauty, and royalty showcased in the video. The sheer spectacle of the Ojude Oba Festival, with its breathtaking parade of horse riders, the exquisite attires, and the lively performances, was a feast for the senses. This year’s viral content from the festival indicated that it was an even grander occasion. The energy and enthusiasm were palpable through the screen, and it was clear that the festival had become a major highlight, thanks to the lens of our social media travel content creators and photographers. Despite its newfound online popularity, my findings revealed that the Ojude Oba Festival has been around for decades and typically draws over 250,000 attendees from within and outside Nigeria.
You know what this says to me? It’s a wake-up call about how easily we can lose touch with our cultural roots in this digital age. We’re so consumed by global trends and viral sensations that we overlook the gems in our own backyard. With its rich culture and beautiful people, Nigeria has so much to offer the world beyond the regular non-flattering headlines
The potential for these cultural celebrations to enhance tourism and showcase our national heritage is immense. It’s high time our tourism sector capitalises on these vibrant yet untapped aspects of our culture, which are, undoubtedly, low-hanging fruits ripe for the picking in promoting Nigeria’s rich cultural landscape. I love that there’s now a conversation around the Ojude Oba Festival, and I sincerely hope that this enthusiasm spreads to other indigenous events and festivals.
Speaking of intriguing content, we have loads of interesting articles for you this week. Ladies, it’s question time: would you pay 3 million Naira for a wig? Yes, you heard me right—3 million Naira, or even more. know the guys reading this might be scratching their heads in confusion, trying to wrap their minds around it. Oh well, this question isn’t for you, or maybe it is. Lol. Earlier this week, I walked into a hair store in Lagos, Lekki, to be precise, to buy a wig. On the shelves were numerous beautiful wigs, with prices ranging from about 500,000 naira to over 3 million Naira. While it might seem unbelievable, keep in mind that if these wigs are being stocked, someone is definitely buying them. This raises the question: when it comes to hair extensions, how much is too much to pay? You should read all about that on page 10. Also, let’s not forget the perennial topic of dating. Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone’s complaining these days about how tough it is to find love? And is the struggle as real as everyone makes it out to be, or are we just experiencing the growing pains of finding love in the digital age? It’s definitely food for thought. We all know that staying healthy and vibrant is the
1. Embrace a Plant-Based Diet
One of the most talked-about secrets to longevity is adopting a plant-based diet. These nutrient-dense foods contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help combat chronic diseases and keep you youthful.
2. Stay Active – But Have Fun
Exercise is non-negotiable for a long, healthy life but doesn’t have to be a chore. Whether dancing, hiking or swimming, staying active should feel like a fun part of your routine, not a punishment. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week to keep your heart healthy and your energy levels high.
3. Prioritise Sleep
Beauty sleep is no myth. Sleep is when your body repairs itself, balances hormones and strengthens the immune system. Create a calming bedtime routine, avoid screens before bed, and make your bedroom a sanctuary for rest.
4. Cultivate Strong Social Connections
Human beings are social creatures, and strong relationships can significantly impact longevity. Studies show that people with robust social networks live longer and healthier lives. Make time for family and friends, join clubs or groups that interest you, and feel free to reach out and make new connections. Your heart and mind will thank you.
5. Practice Mindfulness and Stress Management
Chronic stress is a major contributor to many health issues, from heart disease to depression. Mindfulness practices such as meditation, yoga, and deep-breathing exercises can help you manage stress effectively. Spend a few minutes each day being present and focusing on your breath to improve your overall well-being.
6. Stay Hydrated
Water is essential for life, and staying hydrated is one of the simplest ways to support your health. Adequate hydration can prevent various health issues, from kidney stones to headaches. Aim for at least eight glasses of water daily, and remember that fruits and vegetables also contribute to your hydration needs.
7. Eat Healthy Fats
Not all fats are created equal. Foods like avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil provide essential fatty acids that support brain health, reduce inflammation, and improve heart health. So, go ahead and enjoy that avocado toast!
8. Keep Learning and Stay Curious
Engaging your brain with new activities and challenges can keep your mind sharp as you age. Take up a new hobby, learn a new language, or read widely on interesting topics. Keeping your brain active is just as important as keeping your body fit.
9. Regular Health Check-Ups
Prevention is better than cure; regular health checkups can catch potential issues before they become serious. Regular screenings and check-ups tailored to your age, gender, and health history are essential. These visits allow your doctor to provide personalised advice and early interventions that can prolong your life.
10. Laugh and Enjoy Life
Last but not least, never underestimate the power of a good laugh. Laughter reduces stress, boosts the immune system, and improves blood flow. Surround yourself with people who make you laugh, watch a funny movie, or read a humorous book. Embrace joy, and don’t take life too seriously.

The Departure from Book Order
The most contentious issue has been the show’s decision to deviate quite a lot from the book. While this has been going on since its first season, and admittedly, for certain extra effects and creative differences, TV adaptations will always deviate a little from the original story; some changes came as quite a shock.
One such dramatic change is Lord Kilmartin’s brother, Michael, becoming his cousin, Michaela, in the show. Needless to say, many were hoping for the romance that would blossom between Michael and Francesca after Lord Kilmartin’s death, as in the book. While many have speculated on the showrunners’ decision as a ploy to introduce more LGBTQ action, others think it a creative decision to focus less on Francesca going forward. She is, after all, happily wedded to Lord Kilmartin and living far away in Scotland. This author chooses not to dwell on whatever the plot of Benedict Bridgerton’s new sexual exploits was.
While we understand the need to give everyone adequate screen time, many audience members had grown used to each season being at least 90% about the choice couple, which, in this case, is Colin and Penelope, aka Polin. This season deviated from the norm and focused more on everybody else’s inner dealings than Polin. While we can understand how all these stories sort of tie in, it’s still nearly sad to think Penelope felt like a wallflower all this while, only to still be plastered up on that same wall in what should have been her season.
Much unlike the previous seasons, Polin’s romance dwindled in light of all the other happen-
Dearest Gentle Reader,
It has been a few days since Part 2 of the third season of Bridgerton was released, but this author is not entirely done with her obsession with the show. Since its release, fans and critics alike have been grappling with a whirlwind of emotions. Frankly, this latest season and second part have left the audience with mixed feelings about its overall impact. Here are some possible reasons people are struggling;
ings. Of course, no one is questioning the extra flare that the drama of unravelling Lady Whistledown brought, but so much concern with everyone else’s reactions, family dynamics, little flings here and there, and even another love match and wedding took too much time and focus away from our beloved couple. We barely got intimate moments between them, many of them buried under the sea of drama. The most painful part was that there wasn’t a single memorable line in the love confessions. We remember “I burn for you” from the first season, “You are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires” from the second season, and “I will stand with you between the heavens and the earth, I will tell you where you are, do you love me?” from ‘Queen Charlotte,’ but nothing from Polin.
Underdeveloped Love Matches
Character evolution has been another doubleedged sword. Polin’s transition from friends to lovers hasn’t been seamless for everyone. Some fans have found the shift jarring, feeling that their relationship development’s pacing and depth were too swift and unconvincing. This author is going to further blame it on the very unnecessary decision to split the 8 episode season into two parts with a few weeks in between. However, you should note that not everything is wrong with this season; it’s just not the best one so far.
As usual, the ton once again captivated us with
elegant costumes, set designs, music and generally pleasurable production, continually offering the sumptuous visuals and romantic escapism that fans love.
One thing that is also clear, and this author would want all Bridgerton fans to note, is that this season’s message is quite clear: a woman can be more if only society lets her.
Penelope coming into ownership of herself and her power was a clear statement. Insisting against her Mama’s radical ideas that what she wanted wasn’t a man to provide ‘security’ and ‘a good name’ for her but rather one who would love her for all that she was, including recognising her wits, was powerful. Colin’s acceptance of that fact, that all he needed to do was love her and not necessarily protect or be a prince charming as society often demands, further cemented this season’s position as a worthy watch.
Eventually and slowly peeling off the walls and embodying what it truly meant to be the “diamond of the season,” Penelope’s final moments in this season were captivating and certainly thoughtprovoking.
Dearest Gentle Reader, while we may not have gotten in full the romance we had grown accustomed to with this series, this author maintains that this season carried perhaps the strongest and realest message of all its predecessors.
Sincerely, Not Lady Whistledown.
In recent news, the disappearances of Celine Ndudim and Afiba Tandoh have reignited pressing concerns about the safety of online interactions, especially when it transitions from digital chats to real-world meetings. These young women reportedly vanished after arranging to meet a friend they had connected with online. As we increasingly inhabit a digital world, where meeting someone online is as common as a morning coffee run, it’s crucial to discuss and understand the nuances of online safety in the context of romantic encounters. The internet has undeniably revolutionised how we connect, offering myriad platforms for people to find companionship, love, and lasting friendships. However, the anonymity and accessibility that make online dating appealing also have potential risks. Although not entirely waterproof, here are some tips to help you navigate this space safely.
1. Research and Use Reputable Dating Platforms
Start with choosing a reputable dating platform. Well-known sites tend to have robust safety features and are more diligent in removing fake profiles and scammers. Look for platforms that require identity verification and offer privacy settings that allow you to control who can see your profile and contact you.
2. Keep Personal Information Private
In the initial phases of online interaction, keep personal information private. This includes your last name, address, workplace, and any other details that could be used to track you offline. Be wary of sharing too many specifics about your daily routine until you have established trust.
3. Take It Slow
One common tactic used by those with malicious intent is rushing intimacy. They may profess love or a deep connection quickly to lower your defences. It’s important to take time to really get to know the person on the other end of the chat. Healthy relationships, whether online or off, do not rush.
4. Verify Their Identity
In the digital age, verifying someone’s identity can be as simple as a video call. Platforms like Skype, Zoom, or even FaceTime enable you to confirm the identity of the person you’re communicating with. This also helps ensure the person matches the photos on their profile and can alleviate potential fears of catfishing.
5. Meet in Public Places
When the time feels right for a face-to-face meeting, choose a public place like a cafe, a restaurant, or a busy park. These settings
IS DATING REALLY AS TERRIBLE AS EVERYONE MAKES IT SEEM?
Everyone, from your perpetually single aunt to your freshly ghosted best friend, has something to say about the dismal state of modern romance. But is dating indeed as bleak as they make it out to be, or are we simply facing the growing pains of love in the digital age?
By Konye Chelsea NwabogorDating has always been a fascinating, sometimes perplexing, and often frustrating endeavour. Lately, however, every conversation about it ends with a collective groan and a resigned shrug.
“We started chatting, and within a week, we were inseparable,” he says. “Sure, had my fair share of bad dates before her, but doesn’t everyone? The key is persistence and keeping an open mind.”
offer safety in numbers and provide a neutral ground for getting to know the person without the pressure of a more intimate setting.
6. Inform Friends or Family of Your Plans
Always let someone you trust know where you’re going and who you’re meeting. Provide them with as much information as possible, such as the name and contact information of the person you’re meeting, the time and place of your date, and when you expect to return. It’s also a good idea to send a message or call at a specific time to confirm your safety.
7. Trust Your Instincts
Your instincts are a powerful tool in assessing whether situations feel right or not. If something feels off about the person or the arrangement, trust your gut and postpone or cancel the meeting. Any reasonable person will understand concerns for safety.
8. Use Built-In Safety Features
Many dating apps have built-in safety features, such as reporting suspicious profiles, blocking users, or sending SOS messages. Familiarise yourself with these features before you start using the platform.
9. Stay Sober
Maintaining a clear mind is crucial on a first date. Avoid excessive alcohol or any substances that could impair your ability to make decisions or manage a situation.
10. Have a Safety Plan
Finally, have a safety plan in place. This could involve having a friend call you at a specific time during the date or setting up your own transport rather than depending on someone else. Knowing you have an exit strategy can provide peace of mind.
Conversations over dinner are littered with tales of disaster dates, fleeting flings, and, of course, the infamous ghosting saga. Yet, despite the cacophony of complaints, millions worldwide continue to download dating apps, spruce up their profiles or network to meet love prospects, and generally plunge back into the dating pool with a mix of hope and dread. This paradox suggests that perhaps the situation isn’t entirely dire—maybe it’s just evolving. Men and women alike are voicing specific grievances that highlight a shift in dating dynamics. Many men feel that dating has turned into a transactional ordeal, where the measure of their worth is too often tied to the thickness of their wallet. This sentiment echoes through bars and X threads, where tales of dates doubling as job interviews make the rounds. “I went on a date the other night,” says Tunde, a 32-year-old graphic designer, “and the first thing she asked was what I do for a living and whether I owned my apartment. It felt more like a job interview than a date”. This sentiment is echoed across many first dates. Men often feel like they’re being sized up for their earning potential rather than their personality or compatibility. While financial security is undeniably important, its overt focus can make the initial stages of dating feel more like a transaction than a genuine attempt to connect. Women, on the other hand, lament a market flooded with commitment phobes. They share stories of men who perpetually hover at the dating stage, allergic to anything that hints at settling down. These frustrations reflect a deeper dissatisfaction with the current dating culture, which prioritises convenience over connection. “It feels like every guy meet just wants to keep things casual,” says Sarah, a 28-year-old marketing executive. “They’re always talking about keeping their options open and not wanting to be tied down. It’s like they have this fear of missing out on something better.” This fear of commitment is perhaps fueled by the overwhelming choices available in the digital age. With an endless stream of potentials, the temptation to keep swiping in search of the ‘perfect’ partner can be hard to resist. It’s the paradox of choice – with so many options, it becomes harder to settle for just one.
Yet, despite the horror stories, some are still having a great time dating. Tony, another friend, met his partner recently and couldn’t be happier.
Tony’s optimism is refreshing but begs the question: is the problem with dating itself, or is it our approach to it? In an era where instant gratification is the norm, patience can feel like an archaic virtue. We expect to find the perfect match with minimal effort and maximum convenience, often overlooking the fact that meaningful relationships take time and work to build.
But perhaps the biggest challenge in modern dating is the societal pressure and the unrealistic expectations set by social media. Picture-perfect dates and seemingly flawless relationships are flaunted online, setting an unattainable standard.
The reality of dating – with its awkward silences, miscommunications, and occasional heartbreaks –pales in comparison to the curated highlight reels we scroll through daily.
Then there’s the issue of expectations and unrealistic standards. We look for grand gestures and perfect chemistry, forgetting that real relationships are built on everyday moments and small acts of kindness.
Let’s not forget the impact of the pandemic, which has added another layer of complexity to dating. With lockdowns and social distancing measures, many have turned to virtual dates, navigating the awkwardness of connecting through screens. While some have found love in these trying times, others feel more disconnected than ever.
Despite these challenges, it’s important to remember that dating has always had its ups and downs. Romantic comedies from decades past are filled with tales of awkward encounters, missed connections, and heartbreaks. The difference now is that our experiences are amplified and shared in real-time, making it feel as though we’re all collectively suffering. So, is dating really as terrible as everyone makes it seem?
Perhaps it’s more accurate to say that dating is as complex as it’s ever been—filled with both disenchantment and delight. For every horror story, there’s a tale of romance. For every disastrous date, there’s one that leads to a lifelong partnership. One thing is clear, though: the landscape has certainly changed, bringing both challenges and opportunities. Dating today requires a thick skin, a clear sense of self, and a good sense of humour.
Ultimately, it’s like what Grandma used to say: “Finding love is like finding a good pair of shoes. It takes time and patience, and sometimes, you have to try on a few to find the right fit.”
Despite these challenges, it’s important to remember that dating has always had its ups and downs. Romantic comedies from decades past are filled with tales of awkward encounters, missed connections, and heartbreaks.
In recent years, the cost of hair extensions and wigs in Nigeria has soared to eye-watering heights. With prices ranging from ₦500,000 for short styles to a staggering ₦3,000,000 for longer styles, many are left wondering: when it comes to hair extensions, how much is too much to pay?
For Nigerian women, wigs and human hair extensions sourced from countries like China, Brazil, India, and Korea have become more than just a fashion statement—they are a necessity. Whether for convenience, style, or personal preference, these hairpieces play a crucial role in daily life. However, the skyrocketing costs have made it increasingly challenging for many to keep up with this beauty standard. Even the lesser quality alternatives, which are marginally cheaper, still represent a significant financial burden for their target market. A lower-end wig that might have been affordable a few years ago now comes with a hefty price tag, making it out of reach for many.
One of the worst consequences of the dollar fluctuations since 2020 has been the need to increase prices across the board to accommodate for resulting inflation. This economic shift has severely impacted the hair industry, with vendors hiking their markups to maintain profit margins regardless of new dollar rates. As a result, what was once a splurge has become a near-luxury item.
Aisha, a Lagos-based fashion enthusiast, laments, “I used to buy a new wig every few months, but now can barely afford one a year. The prices are just ridiculous. don’t know how they expect regular people to keep up.”
The high cost has driven some women to alternative styles. Braiding, which uses synthetic extensions, has seen a resurgence. “I’ve started braiding my hair more often,” says Chioma, a university student. “It’s not just about the cost, but also the maintenance. Wigs are becoming almost unaffordable and too high-maintenance for me.”
There are those who also argue that spending such large sums on hair is a worthless investment, especially when compared to assets like gold. “I used to buy expensive wigs, but now I invest that money in something more substantial,” says Nkechi, an entrepreneur. “Hair is just hair. It won’t appreciate in value.”
For those who can’t afford the cost yet are unwilling to give up their prized wigs, necessity has found a creative solution: wig rentals. This emerging business trend allows women to rent wigs, providing a way to enjoy high-quality hair without the upfront cost. The concept, while unconventional, has
gained traction.
“Renting wigs has been a game-changer for me,” shares Funmi, a Lagos socialite. “I can have a new look every week without breaking the bank. Plus, it’s great for events and special occasions.”
The rise of wig rentals means that a single wig can see multiple heads in a week, each person paying a fraction of the purchase price for a day’s use. This practice, while economically savvy, also highlights the lengths women will go to maintain their desired appearance. Wig rentals come with their own set of challenges. Hygienic concerns and the wear and tear of sharing wigs among multiple users can affect the longevity and quality of the hair. Despite these issues, the rental market continues to thrive, underscoring the deepseated demand for these beauty products.
Vendors, on their part, are doing what they can to stay afloat amidst fluctuating costs. “We have no choice but to increase our prices,” explains a hair luxury vendor in Lagos.
“The cost of importing the hair has gone up, and we need to make sure we still make a profit. It’s tough on our customers, but it’s the reality of the market.”
While the hair extension industry grapples with these economic challenges, Nigerian women continue to find innovative ways to keep their hair game strong.
Ultimately, when it comes to hair extensions, how much is too much to pay? Would you spend 3 million Naira on a wig?
If these vendors are still in business, then someone is buying. The answer may vary depending on individual circumstances, but one thing is clear: the pursuit of beauty, style, and selfexpression remains a powerful driving force.
When mini bags first burst onto the scene, they were more than just a fashion statement; they were a bold declaration of minimalism and functionality. Luxury brands like Jacquemus, Chanel, and Fendi shrank their iconic designs to create these tiny treasures, leading to an instant obsession among the style-conscious. Celebrities and influencers alike were seen sporting these diminutive accessories, further cementing their status as a must-have item.
However, the practicality of mini bags has always been a topic of debate. Critics argue that they prioritise form over function, offering barely enough space for essentials like a phone, a couple of credit cards, and perhaps a lipstick.
Despite this, the allure of mini bags has not waned. Their appeal lies not in their capacity but in their ability to complement an outfit without overpowering it, acting more as a piece of jewellery than a utilitarian item.
The longevity of the mini bag trend can also be attributed to the innovative ways in which designers have continued to reimagine them. From bejewelled clasps and intricate leatherwork to unconventional shapes and bold colour palettes, mini bags have been continually refreshed to keep up with changing tastes. Furthermore, their adaptability means they can transition effortlessly from day to night, making them a versatile choice for any occasion.

Nwanneka
Nkuma of Miz Wanneka hair is a big player in the hair industry. Her wigs currently retail from between 650 to over 1000 dollars
Sustainability concerns have also played a significant role in the endurance of the mini bag trend. As consumers become more environmentally conscious, the appeal of owning smaller, more versatile pieces that speak to a ‘less is more’ philosophy grows. The mini bag fits perfectly into this narrative, offering a stylish yet practical solution that aligns with the move towards capsule wardrobes and timeless fashion.
In terms of market dynamics, the mini bag continues to be a strong performer. According to recent market research, sales of mini bags have not seen a significant decline, suggesting that they still hold a valuable place in the accessories market. High-profile collaborations and limited-edition releases have kept the excitement around mini bags alive, with collectors and fashion lovers eager to get their hands on the latest designs.
Looking at street style trends and runway shows from the current year, mini bags are still prominently featured. They are often styled in new and innovative ways, such as being worn in multiples or paired with oversized clothing for a playful contrast. This ongoing visibility is a testament to their enduring appeal.

At the core of the Ojude Oba Festival is the recognition of the leadership of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who has been instrumental in the growth and preservation of Ijebu culture. His vision for a unified and prosperous Ijebuland is reflected in the festival’s emphasis on community and heritage.
The Ojude Oba Festival has become a vivid reminder of the strength and beauty of Nigerian culture. As the festival continues to grow each year, it not only preserves the rich history of the Ijebu people but also adapts to the changing times, incorporating more contemporary elements while staying true to its roots. This dynamic interplay between the old and the new will ensure that the Ojude Oba Festival remains relevant and cherished by all generations.
When it comes to fashion, every accessory you choose is a declaration of your style, and few pieces speak louder than sunglasses. More than just sun shields, they’re a peek into your personality, a way to frame your face and express your mood. Whether you’re drawn to classic aviators, the daring cat-eye, or bold oversized frames, each style tells its own story.
Oversized sunglasses have been a statement of chic since the glamorous days of old Hollywood. Worn by style icons such as Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O, these frames are not just about sun protection but about presence. If you gravitate towards these large, often dramatic frames, you’re likely embracing a bold, confident approach to fashion. You aren’t afraid to be seen or to shield yourself from the world when you need a moment of mystique.
Aviators
Aviators are the epitome of cool — think Tom Cruise in Top Gun or Leonardo DiCaprio in real life. If aviators are your go-to, you likely exude a laidback, cool demeanour that others find approachable yet enigmatic. They have graced the faces of countless cultural icons, signalling a deep appreciation for a quintessential style that has stood the test of time. If you prefer wayfarers, you might be perceived as someone with a strong connection to the arts and culture, with a penchant for an intellectual and laidback classic style.
Cat-Eye
The cat-eye sunglasses are all about flair and femininity. With their upward sweeping angles, they evoke a retro

LET’S GO TOGETHER ON A 6-DAY JOURNEY EXPLORING
I’ve always dreamt of visiting Morocco—always! So you can imagine my excitement when I learned I’d be embarking on an all-expensespaid journey not just to one city but four Moroccan cities. Heading into this adventure, I had no idea what to expect, but the luxury we experienced exceeded all my expectations. Don’t believe me? Read on and discover for yourself!
Journey from Lagos to Casablanca, Wellness Session and Welcome Cocktail
Our journey commenced with an exhilarating flight from Lagos to Casablanca. The landing at 11:30 am was met with a warm reception, setting the tone for an extraordinary experience ahead.
When you have officials from the government with you, of course, everything goes on smoothly! This might be a great time to mention that wasn’t on this journey alone. I was part of an 8-man team carefully selected from Nigeria. If I didn’t feel special before, I definitely feel special now!
By 1 pm, we were settling into our first lodge. The first order of business?
Food! Of course, this was an eagerly anticipated affair after our morning’s travels. As dusk settled, we ascended to the 24th floor for a cocktail dinner in our honour. We were welcomed to the tunes of Nigerian songs bursting from the speakers. It provided the perfect backdrop for mingling with both Moroccan and Nigerian counterparts. We ended the night playing games and knowing each other better. It was time to say goodnight!
myriad of local crafts, spices, and traditional wares.
Day 3:
Tangier to Chefchaouen, Guided tour of “The Blue City/Pearl”, and attending a Moroccan-themed wedding!
Casablanca to Tangier, Guided tour of the City and Dinner (That included a lot of dancing and singing)
So here’s the thing about travelling for work with a full itinerary: you can’t really sleep in! Day two began early with preparations for our train journey to Tangier. Upon arriving in Tangier, you just get the sense that this city is vibrant. Exiting the train station, we could already see our Hotel staring at us. Renowned for its hospitality, we were treated to tea and snacks at the hotel entrance before we indulged in a sumptuous lunch. After that, we embarked on a guided city tour, immersing ourselves in its culture and discovering its intriguing landmarks. Our evening tour commenced with a visit to Cape Spartel, a popular vantage point offering stunning views where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. Situated in northern Morocco, Tangier occupies a pivotal position at the intersection of the Mediterranean and Atlantic, enriched by its multicultural heritage.
We also explored the Tangier Medina, a bustling market labyrinth lined with narrow streets, vibrant souks, and a
On Day Three, we departed for our next destination: Chefchaouen; you might know it as the Blue Pearl or the Blue City. The road trip from Tangier was a few hours long, but all the fun we were having in sprinter singing and dancing, plus the breathtaking views, made the journey even sweeter. It’s 6:06 pm, and we just arrived at our next hotel. All I wanted to do was jump in the pool, which I did! only had the time to do so because the ladies on the team were getting ready for their special roles as Moroccan bridesmaids for the wedding later in the evening.
Traditional Moroccan music, dance, and cuisine all came together for truly an unforgettable cultural experience.
If you like Nigerian weddings, you definitely love traditional Moroccan weddings. Brides typically change outfits multiple times throughout the celebration. It usually ranges from 3 to 7 or more outfits, depending on regional and family customs. Our bride wore three stunning outfits! The Groom was undoubtedly not left out! It’s his day, too, mean. The groom adorns attires that reflect elegance and sophistication. It’s 11:49 pm now. The whole team was understandably tired, but we gathered for dinner before going to bed—a ritual that lasted throughout the trip!
Day Four:
Welcome to Marrakech!
Marrakech is the tourist capital of Morocco. Naturally, I was particularly excited about our journey to Marrakech.
Walking into our hotel felt like had entered paradise, and we’d soon realised this was just the beginning of Marrakech’s lavish offerings for the team. Our individual villas (which had their private pools) felt like a palace room. Welcomed by a handwritten note from the general manager and some delightful sweets and fruits native to Morocco to enjoy. But the real gem? Two framed images of myself in the room!
Day Five: Hot Air Balloon, Musee Des Confluence and Tour of the Marrakech Medina
It’s 5:10 am, and the group is together waiting to be transported to our destination for the Hot Air Balloon ride. Why do we have to leave so early? You may ask. Catching the sunrise from a hot air balloon is such a beautiful scene. That’s why! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience; to
top it off, we even received certificates for our flight. It was interesting to see how “Ayo” is written in Arabic. Our day in Marrakech continued at the Musée des Confluences. This museum is renowned for its extensive collection of artefacts that offer a glimpse into Morocco’s rich and diverse cultural history. Formally a palace Built in the 1910s by the Pacha of Marrakech at the time; Thami El Glaoui. This was a typical example of a riad: small on the outside, but when you enter, you are more than surprised. Immediately, I was blown away by the stunning and honestly “ahead of its time” architecture. Fun fact: everything was hand-carved!
From there, we proceeded to the bustling Jamaa El Fna Square. With the help of yet another funny tour guide (who kept calling me Michael Jackson), we walked through the streets of the Marrakech Medina, a vibrant market filled with spices,
textiles, and finely crafted goods, from leather bags to shoes to accessories to even ceramic products. As we navigated the market, we were warmly greeted by the locals, who could tell we were tourists.
As the tour came to an end, we were treated to an extravagant lunch at an upscale rooftop restaurant. After lunch, we headed back to the villa to unwind and prepare for the exciting Marrakech nightlife we were going to experience later that night. Dressed in my traditional Yoruba native, fully repping Nigeria, the evening was unforgettable. It featured a mouth-watering dinner and captivating performances at one of Marrakech’s finest nightlife venues. The night ended with us singing our theme song again: “Morocco, Morocco, Moroooccoooo.”
Day Six:
Quad Biking, Camel Ride, and Goodbyes hate goodbyes. However, it was time to say goodbye to such a wonderful experience. Our hosts, however, were determined to ensure we experienced all Marrakech had to offer. They had one last thing in store for us: quad-biking and camel riding! As we embarked on our journey back to the airport to fly home to Nigeria, a blend of sadness, happiness and fulfilment followed us. I will definitely be visiting Morocco again, this time spending more time in the cities to fully appreciate and digest all its offerings.
Skincare isn’t just a ritual for relaxation—it’s a vital shield against the elements, from sun damage to the rigors of aging. And when it comes to your workout routine, both timing and skincare are paramount. Yes, prepping your skin before you even lace up your sneakers might sound odd—why fuss over your face before it’s going to be drenched in sweat? Yet, those who’ve incorporated this extra step swear by its benefits. If post-gym breakouts or dry patches are haunting your complexion, skipping on skincare might just be the culprit. Here’s a streamlined approach to keeping your skin clear and vibrant, no matter when you hit the gym.
Pre-Workout Essentials
Cleanse
Banish breakouts by removing makeup or residue before you workout. This isn’t just about vanity—it’s about function.
Cleansing helps lock in moisture, allows your skin to breathe, and strengthens its natural barriers. This not only prevents dehydration but also stops dirt, oil, and sweat from conspiring to clog your pores. Opt for a gentle cleanser to wipe the slate clean.
Moisturise
Think lightweight when it comes to hydration. Sweating strips moisture from your skin, making a good moisturiser essential. Choose a formula that hydrates without blocking your pores. Don’t forget about your lips! A nourishing lip balm is crucial to keep them from drying out.
Sunscreen
Indoor or outdoor, sunscreen is a must. It protects your skin from UV damage that can prematurely age you. Whether you’re pounding pavement or hitting the weights indoors, a good SPF will safeguard your skin.
Post-Workout Protocol
Immediate Shower
Hit the showers right after your session. It’s not just about feeling fresh; rinsing away sweat and grime reduces skin irritation and prevents the exacerbation of any skin conditions. Follow up with a second round of cleansing, moisturising, and applying sunscreen to keep your skin protected.
Hydrate
Drinking plenty of water is as crucial for your skin as it is for your muscles. Post-workout hydration helps flush out toxins and ensures your skin recovers well from the stress of exercise. Lock in that moisture with a robust moisturiser designed for post-workout recovery.
Fashion is a fickle friend; one moment, it’s all about the boldest prints and the next, minimalist chic. However, amidst this constantly evolving field, certain trends, like these five, have continued to prove their staying power.
The Denim Denim is the quintessential survivor of the fashion world, adapting to changes in style with astonishing flexibility. From the rugged jeans of the ‘50s to today’s highwaisted wonders, IT continues to reinvent itself. This season, we’re seeing a nod to vintage styles with a modern twist—think wide-legged jeans paired with sleek, tailored blazers or cropped tops. Denim isn’t just a weekend casual anymore; it’s making its mark in the fashion world, proving its versatility and enduring appeal.
The Power of the Blazer
If there’s one piece that has transitioned seamlessly from the boardroom to street style, it’s the blazer. With its origins in menswear, the blazer has been embraced by all genders, signifying professionalism and polish. Modern iterations play with colour, pattern, and cut to adapt to various styles and occasions. Whether thrown over a graphic tee for a casual look or paired with matching trousers for a suit effect, the blazer remains a cornerstone of contemporary fashion.
Athleisure
Athleisure has seamlessly transitioned from gym wear to a fashion statement, reflecting a broader shift towards versatility and comfort in clothing. What started as a trend for yoga pants and sneakers has expanded into a full-blown fashion movement, emphasising clothes that offer functionality while keeping style quotient high. This trend caters to a modern lifestyle that values health, wellness, and ease, making it a permanent fixture in our closets.
Minimalism has made a significant impact on fashion, advocating for a “less is more” philosophy. This trend focuses on neutral colours, simple cuts, and high-quality fabrics, allowing for versatility and longevity in fashion choices. Minimalism isn’t just about plainness; it’s about perfection in simplicity.
Sustainability is no longer just a buzzword; it’s a movement reshaping the fashion landscape. Consumers are increasingly aware of the environmental impact of their purchases, pushing designers to adopt more sustainable practices. This trend is reflected in the rising popularity of upcycled garments and organic materials that promise durability and biodegradability.
