When think back to how first picked up the reading habit, my dad comes to mind almost immediately. He’s a voracious reader—always has been, always will be. His insatiable desire to consume words, ideas, and knowledge is something I’ve admired since was a child. It’s hardly surprising that he’s one of the most intelligent and well-spoken men know. He always has an opinion, and not just any opinion—an informed one, meticulously crafted through hours of reading and reflection. What’s even more fascinating is how he can argue both sides of an issue and still be right, no matter which side he takes. That’s the magic of reading—it broadens your mind, deepens your understanding, and sharpens your ability to see things from multiple perspectives.
Growing up, my siblings and naturally picked up the reading habit from him. It was almost inevitable. Our home was filled with books— bookshelves in the living room, stacks of novels on the bedside tables, and even a few stray paperbacks in the bathroom. For us, reading was just a part of life, as normal as eating dinner or watching TV.
But for me, it went beyond just habit. fell in love with reading, especially when I started studying English and Literature at university. That’s when truly began to appreciate the depth and beauty of words, the way they can transport you to another world, challenge your thinking, or make you feel deeply connected to a character, an author, or even an idea. So, when came across the article listing ten reasons why you should make time to read every day, could 100% relate. Reading has been a huge part of my life, and it’s shaped who am today. In fact, I’ve built up a massive library of over a thousand books, and it’s still growing. There’s something incredibly satisfying about knowing that no matter my mood, there’s a book on my shelf that can match it, whether I’m looking for escapism, enlightenment, or just a bit of entertainment.
But as much as love reading, I’ll admit that life has been happening lately, and haven’t been reading as much as I’d like. That’s why I’m taking this as my cue to get back to reading consistently. And I’d love for you to join me. If reading isn’t your thing, that’s perfectly fine. Just start small—ten pages a day, maybe. Trust me, it’s like building a muscle.
The more you do it, the stronger you’ll get; before you know it, you’ll tear through books. If you start now, you can finish four or five books before the end of the year. How’s that for a challenge?
For my fellow millennials, I’ve got a reading recommendation for you: “Millennial Midlife Crisis: Embrace the Chaos and Thrive.” It’s an insightful article that think you’ll find relatable and maybe a bit helpful.
Here’s a mind-blowing statistic: 64% of millennials have experienced a mid-life crisis. That’s a high percentage, a stark reminder of our generation’s unique pressures. We’ve been through a lot—the digital shift, economic challenges, and social changes—and it all happened very quickly.
We’re the generation that lived through both worlds, analogue and digital, and while that’s not an excuse, sometimes it’s just hard.
A midlife crisis can be challenging at any age, but for millennials, the potential costs and long-term implications may be even more severe.
We’re in our mid-career stages, often burdened with limited financial resources compared to older generations. The emotional turmoil, impulsive decisions, and potential upheaval that come with a midlife crisis can have far-reaching consequences, from financial setbacks and career disruptions to strained relationships and compromised physical and mental health. But there’s hope. Whether you’re a millennial or a lot older, it’s important to seek help if you’re struggling. Reading the article is an excellent place to start.
Are you having a great day? I am sure you are, and that’s great to hear. Cheers
a happy and productive week ahead.
WHAT REALLY QUALIFIES AS LUXURY?
The word “luxury” typically conjures images of opulence and exclusivity—think lavish sports cars, high-end fashion, and five-star hotels. However, in recent years, it has become a ubiquitous buzzword in marketing and consumer culture. Almost everything is marketed as “luxury” these days, from scented candles to yoga mats. But is this overuse diluting the essence of true luxury? Let’s explore what luxury genuinely means and how to differentiate authentic luxury from clever marketing strategies.
The Evolution of Luxury Traditionally, luxury was synonymous with rarity, superior quality, and a certain level of prestige. Luxury items were often handcrafted using the finest materials and required significant time to produce. These items were not just products but symbols of status and taste. Think of a Rolls-Royce with its meticulously detailed interior or a Chanel handbag crafted with precision by skilled artisans.
However, as consumer culture has evolved, so has the concept of luxury. Today, brands across various industries are eager to label their products as “luxury” to appeal to a broader market. This democratisation of luxury has led to a paradox: while more people have access to so-called luxury goods, the term itself has lost much of its original meaning.
The Marketing Overload Brands today are savvy. They understand that “luxury” has a psychological pull. The word itself evokes a sense of indulgence and specialness. It’s no wonder that marketers slap the label on everything from gourmet chocolates to pet food. However, this marketing overload can be confusing for consumers. When everything is branded as luxurious, how do we differentiate between what is truly high-end and what is merely masquerading as such?
True Luxury: Quality Over Quantity
So, what qualifies as true luxury in today’s market? First and foremost, luxury should be about quality. A genuine luxury item is crafted with superior materials and exceptional craftsmanship. It’s not about mass production but about the attention to detail and the passion that goes into creating something extraordinary. Consider a bespoke suit tailored to your exact measurements versus a mass-produced suit labelled as luxury because of its brand name. The bespoke suit epitomises true luxury with its personalized fit and superior fabrics. It’s not just about the price tag; it’s about the value and the experience.
Exclusivity and Rarity
Luxury items are often limited in availability, making them more desirable. This scarcity creates a sense of exclusivity and prestige. For example, limited-edition timepieces from brands like Patek Philippe or rare vintage wines from exclusive vineyards are considered luxurious because they are not readily available to everyone. In contrast, a mass-produced item labelled as luxury because it has a hefty price tag lacks this element of exclusivity. If everyone can have it, does it really feel luxurious?
Authenticity and Heritage
Many luxury brands have a rich history and a legacy of excellence that spans generations. This heritage is often a testament to their commitment to quality and their ability to innovate while staying true to their roots.
Making Decisions on Luxury When deciding whether something qualifies as luxury, it’s essential to look beyond the marketing hype. Here are some tips to help you make discerning choices:
• Research the Brand: Investigate the brand’s history and reputation. Brands with a longstanding commitment to quality and craftsmanship are more likely to offer genuine luxury.
• Examine the Craftsmanship: Look for details that indicate superior craftsmanship. Are the materials high-quality? Is there attention to detail? Is the item made by skilled artisans?
• Consider Exclusivity: Is the item limited in availability? Does it offer a sense of exclusivity and uniqueness?
• Evaluate the Experience: True luxury often comes with a superior customer experience. From personalised services to exceptional aftercare, the experience should reflect the product’s luxury status.

GAME-CHANGING DRESSING RULES FOR MEN OVER
Turning 50? No problem! It’s definitely not a reason to stop looking your best. In fact, age can be a fantastic excuse to refine and elevate your style. Fashion doesn’t adhere to age limits, so feel free to slay every day! Here are some game-changing tips to help men over 50 look sharp and feel their best.
Embrace Classic Cuts
First things first, classic cuts are timeless and consistently flattering on a mature physique. When it comes to suits, blazers, dress shirts, and trousers, investing in well-tailored pieces is essential. A good tailor can be your best friend, ensuring every piece fits like a glove. Classic cuts project confidence and sophistication and ensure that you’re always in style, no matter the current trends.
Focus on Quality Fabrics
Quality over quantity is a rule that gains even more significance with age. High-quality fabrics feel better against your skin and last significantly longer. Opt for natural fibres like wool, cotton, and linen, which are breathable and comfortable. Investing in high-quality pieces ensures that your wardrobe stands the test of time, maintaining its shape and appearance after numerous wears and washes.
Prioritise Fit Over Size
Fit is crucial at any age but becomes even more important as you age. Clothes that fit well make you look more polished and put-together. Avoid baggy or overly tight clothing, and aim for a fit that comfortably skims your body. A well-fitted blazer can do wonders for your silhouette, while well-tailored trousers can make your legs look longer and leaner.
Accessorise with Confidence
Accessories are like the icing on the cake—they can elevate your look without overwhelming it. Invest in quality belts, watches, bracelets, sunglasses, hats, and shoes. A wellchosen tie or pocket square can add a touch of personality to a classic outfit. However, remember that less is often more when it comes to accessories. A sleek watch and a tasteful pair of cufflinks can speak volumes. The idea is to enhance your look subtly and elegantly.
Embrace Bold Colours
Contrary to popular belief, bold colours can be a great addition to your wardrobe, regardless of age. Feel free to experiment with colours that complement your skin tone. Adding colour can inject fun and personality into your look, whether it’s a vibrant blue suit, a rich burgundy sweater, or a patterned shirt. Matching sets with bold colours or patterns can make a stylish statement, while single pieces can add a pop of colour to a classic outfit.
Rock Those Jeans
Jeans aren’t just for the younger crowd. A good pair of jeans can be a versatile and stylish addition to your wardrobe. Choose a cut that suits your body type—whether it’s straight-leg, slim-fit, or relaxed. Dark denim tends to be more versatile and can be dressed up or down. Pair your jeans with a crisp dress shirt and blazer for a smart casual look or a t-shirt for a laid-back vibe. Don’t be afraid to experiment and find what makes you feel comfortable and confident.
Personal Grooming
Grooming plays a significant role in your overall appearance. Regular haircuts, a well-maintained beard, a clean shave, and proper skin care can make a big difference. A well-groomed man exudes confidence and attention to detail. Invest in good grooming products and develop a routine that works for you. Whether it’s a signature cologne, a quality razor, or a nourishing moisturizer, these small investments can significantly impact how you look and feel.
Footwear Matters
Your shoes can make or break your outfit. Invest in a few high-quality pairs that are both stylish and comfortable. Classic leather dress shoes, versatile loafers, and trendy sneakers can cover all your bases. Ensure your shoes are always clean and well-maintained, reflecting your attention to detail. A great pair of shoes can elevate even the simplest outfit, making you look polished and put-together.
Update Your Wardrobe Regularly
Fashion is ever-evolving, and so should your wardrobe. Regularly updating your wardrobe ensures that you stay current and stylish. This doesn’t mean you must follow every trend, but incorporating a few modern pieces can keep your look fresh. Take the time to declutter your wardrobe, getting rid of items that are worn out or no longer fit well. Invest in new pieces that reflect your current style and personality.
Seek Inspiration
Inspiration can come from anywhere—fashion magazines, style blogs, or even stylish men you admire. Don’t be afraid to seek out new ideas and experiment with different looks. The more you explore, the more you discover what works best for you. Keep an open mind and be willing to try new things. Fashion is a journey, and there’s always something new to learn and experience.

A HELPFUL CHECKLIST BEFORE YOU INVEST IN A DESIGNER BAG
Investing in a designer bag is a significant decision that goes beyond just a fashion statement. It’s about making a choice that complements your style, serves your needs, and holds its value over time. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a first-time buyer, here’s a checklist to ensure you make a wise investment.
1. Know Your Style
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)
How to Be Single (2016)
Before you even think about swiping that card, you need to know your personal style. Are you a classic kind of girl, or does the edgy vibe speak to your soul? Your bag should be a reflection of your personality and fit seamlessly into your wardrobe. Take a moment to assess your current collection and identify the gaps. Do you need a timeless tote, a chic clutch, or perhaps a versatile crossbody?
2.
Set a Budget
Designer bags can range from the moderately expensive to the downright extravagant. Setting a budget beforehand can prevent you from getting carried away. Consider how much you’re willing to spend and stick to it. Remember, a higher price doesn’t always mean better quality. Sometimes, lesser-known designers offer incredible craftsmanship without the hefty price tag.
3.
Research the Brand
Every designer has a distinct reputation and style. Some brands are known for their durability, others for their iconic designs. Research the brand’s history, their customer reviews, and even the resale value of their bags. If a brand’s bags consistently hold their value, it might be worth the investment.
4.
Consider the Occasion
Are you buying this bag for everyday use, special occasions, or as a collector’s item? The occasion will heavily influence your choice. An everyday bag should be practical, durable, and versatile, while a special occasion bag can afford to be more delicate and unique. Think about how often you’ll use it and for what purposes.
5. Pay Attention to Material
The material of the bag can significantly affect its longevity and maintenance. Leather is a popular choice due to its durability and timeless appeal, but it requires regular care to keep it looking pristine. Canvas and other fabrics might be easier to maintain but could lack the luxurious feel of leather.
6. Check the Hardware
The hardware on a bag, such as zippers, buckles, and chains, can significantly impact its overall look and longevity. Make sure the hardware feels sturdy and matches your preferred aesthetic. Gold, silver, and gunmetal are common finishes – choose one that complements your wardrobe and personal style.
7. Colour Matters
Neutral colours like black, beige, and brown are versatile and timeless. They can match almost any outfit and are less likely to show wear and tear. However, a bold colour can make a statement and add a fun element to your ensemble. If you’re torn, consider what will fit best into your existing wardrobe.
8. Size and Functionality
Size does matter, especially when it comes to designer bags. Think about what you typically carry and choose a size that accommodates your essentials without being too bulky. Also, consider the functionality – does it have enough pockets, does the strap adjust to your liking, and is it comfortable to carry?
9. Try It On
If possible, try the bag on in person. This will give you a better sense of how it looks and feels. Check the weight, how it sits on your shoulder or arm, and if it’s easy to access the contents. If you’re buying online, make sure the store has a good return policy in case it doesn’t meet your expectations.
10. Trust Your Instincts
If a bag makes your heart race and you can envision yourself carrying it everywhere, it might just be the one. A designer bag is a significant investment, so it should bring you joy and complement your style effortlessly.
VERONICA EBIE AND CHIOMA IKOKWU
STANLEY UZOCHUKWU RISING!
Born in Calabar, Nigeria, Stanley Uzochukwu’s rise from a young, ambitious graduate of the University of Jos to the Founder and Executive Chairman of Stanel Group is nothing short of extraordinary.
At 40, he has built a business empire, Stanel Group, which encompasses interests in energy, hospitality, and real estate and also crafted a legacy that extends far beyond the boardroom.
From the outset, Stanley’s vision was clear: to create opportunities where they were scarce and to give back to the community in meaningful ways. His passion for job creation and youth development is palpable, reflected in the over 7,000 jobs he has provided and countless training programs designed to empower the next generation of Nigerian leaders. His annual youth empowerment initiative, Access More with Stanel, is a cornerstone of his efforts to uplift young entrepreneurs, providing them with the mentorship and resources needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.
But perhaps what sets Stanley apart most is his deep sense of compassion and commitment to social responsibility. His foundation’s work with widows, orphans, and the less privileged has touched thousands of lives, offering not just material support, but hope and a path to a better future. Most recently, he launched The Delborough Lagos, a super luxury-styled hotel that has quickly become a hub for high-profile gatherings and international dignitaries. Yet, even as his business empire grows, Stanley’s focus remains steadfast on the impact he can have on others. “My commitment to youth empowerment and job creation is deeply personal. I understand what it’s like to struggle and face uncertainty about the future.”, he says.
Congratulations, Stanley. Turning 40 is a significant milestone. How do you feel about this new decade in your life?
I feel immensely grateful to God for everything He has done in my life. Reaching 40 is a significant milestone, and see it as a moment to reflect on how far God has brought me. Without Him, none of these achievements would have been possible. My attitude is one of deep gratitude, as I know that every success, challenges overcome, and blessing directly results from His grace. As I step into this new decade, am filled with hope and anticipation for what He has in store for me next.
At such a young age, you’ve achieved remarkable success. What do you attribute this to?
I attribute my success to several key factors: God: Above all, my faith has been the cornerstone of my journey. I believe that God has been guiding me every step of the way.
Hard Work: From an early age, learned the
importance of hard work. It’s been a driving force behind everything I do. have always believed that hard work is non-negotiable.

Consistency: Success is not just about one big break; it’s about showing up every day, putting in the work, and staying committed to your goals.
Constant Upgrade: I believe in continuous learning and self-improvement. The world is constantly changing, and to stay relevant, you have to keep upgrading your skills, knowledge, and the way you do things.
What motivated you to start Stanel Group, and what was your vision when you first began?
My journey began during a period of desperation in my life. was a young boy struggling in Abuja, balancing school with business to make ends meet. One day, I joined a family friend for

their church’s 21-day fasting program. During that time, had a vivid dream where saw oil tankers delivering products directly to homes and offices. When I woke up, I knew it was a divine indication of what I should venture into. That dream laid the foundation for Stanel Group.
The initial vision was to make oil and gas products accessible to people in their homes through a systematic delivery system. Our motto was “bringing it to you.” Over the years, by God’s grace, we have expanded significantly. We now have gas stations across several States in Nigeria, and the business has diversified into other sectors, including hospitality, retail, and more.
You have done very well, particularly in the area of job creation, providing jobs and training for over 7,000 young people. What drives your commitment to youth empowerment and job creation?
My commitment to youth empowerment and job creation is deeply personal. understand what it’s like to struggle and face uncertainty about the future. Providing opportunities for young people is my way of giving back and helping others navigate their journeys. believe that by empowering the youth, we are helping individuals and building a stronger, more resilient society. It’s about giving them the tools, skills, and confidence they need to succeed, just as others did for me when was starting out.
How did the idea for the Access More with Stanel program come about, and what impact has it had on young entrepreneurs?
The Access More with Stanel program idea was born from my own experiences. started my entrepreneurial journey early because I was fortunate to have people who believed in me and invested their credibility in me. This program is my way of replicating that opportunity for other young people. Through Access More, we mentor young entrepreneurs and provide them with cash grants to kickstart or grow their businesses. The impact has been profound. We’ve seen young entrepreneurs who were once struggling now run successful businesses, create jobs, and contribute positively to their communities. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see the ripple effect of this program.
Being a young entrepreneur in Nigeria must have been really difficult. Were there moments where you doubted your path?
How did you navigate those times?
Oh yes, being a young entrepreneur in Nigeria is challenging. There were many tough moments, but I never truly doubted my path. had a firm conviction that this was what I was meant to do. Yes, there were challenges—financial hurdles, operational difficulties, and the general uncertainty of entrepreneurship—but my faith in God and the vision He gave me kept me going. Every time I faced a setback, I turned to God for guidance, and He always made a way.
You are surrounded by many older, successful, and influential personalities. Did that help? How has mentorship played a role in your personal and professional growth? Absolutely, being surrounded by successful and experienced individuals has been incredibly beneficial. Mentorship has been a cornerstone of my emergence and rise. Having mentors who have walked the path before me provided invaluable guidance and insight. They helped me avoid pitfalls, made me see opportunities where I might not have, and encouraged me when I needed it most. Their wisdom and experience have been instrumental in shaping my personal and professional growth.
Would you like to share an impactful piece of advice from one of your mentors?
One of my most revered mentors is Dr. Cosmas Maduka, the President of Coscharis Group. He has always emphasised the importance of financial prudence. He often says, “Don’t eat your seed; wait for the harvest.” This advice is about delaying gratification and being patient. This principle has been incredibly valuable in my journey in a world where instant results are often sought after. It has taught me the importance of making wise financial decisions and investing long-term.
Love, compassion, and giving back also seem to be integral to your approach. Tell me a bit about your foundation. Our focus at the Stanley Uzochukwu Foundation is primarily on youth, widows, and orphans. We believe in providing opportunities for those who are often overlooked or underserved. Through various programs, we offer mentorship, education, vocational training, and financial support. We also have initiatives focused on healthcare, housing, and community development. Our goal is to empower individuals and communities to become self-sufficient and thrive.
Can you share some memorable moments from your annual events for widows and orphans?
One memorable moment was during one of our prison outreaches, where met a woman who had been imprisoned for over six months. She had been doing local laundry work when a client accused her of losing a dress, leading to her arrest and imprisonment. All she needed was 150,000 Naira to secure her release, but she had no one to turn to. paid the fines, secured her release, and gave her additional funds to restart her life.
This woman started a piggery business, and I recently heard that she now has over 1,000 pigs and is even an employer of labour. Stories like this remind me why we do what we do at the foundation. It’s about transforming lives and giving people a second chance.
Central African countries. This rapid expansion is arguably one of the fastest-growing hospitality franchises in recent history, and we are excited about the future. The goal is to establish a strong presence across Africa and eventually take African hospitality to the global stage.
You are very public about your relationship with God, and it’s so beautiful to see. It seems to be a central part of your life. How does your faith influence your business decisions? Yes, God is at the centre of everything do, both personally and professionally. The principles of the Bible guide all my business decisions. Whether it’s how treat my employees, how approach partnerships, or how I plan for the future, my faith is the foundation. I believe that when you put God first, everything else falls into place. It’s not always easy, but having that spiritual anchor provides clarity and purpose in all my endeavours.
Reflecting on your journey, what has been your most rewarding experience so far?
The most rewarding experience of my journey has been witnessing the profound impact our efforts have had on people’s lives. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing tangible change— whether it’s someone securing a job through one of our businesses, a young entrepreneur thriving as a result of our mentorship programs, or an individual regaining hope through the initiatives of our foundation.
It’s incredibly gratifying to see people who were once struggling now flourishing. I’ve seen individuals who were homeless and uncertain about their future now owning homes and cars, achieving stability and independence. I’ve also watched people who had never even dreamed of travelling suddenly find themselves on private jets, experiencing a completely different world. These transformations are a powerful reminder of the purpose behind everything we do.
One of my primary personal goals is to focus on my academic pursuits. I recently completed my MBA, and I plan to proceed with a PhD next. By God’s grace, my goal is to become a professor by the time I’m 49.
Your luxury hotel, The Delborough Lagos, has gained a lot of attention. What inspired you to venture into the hospitality industry?
The Delborough Lagos was initially intended to be Stanel Group’s head office. However, during a trip to Dubai, received a clear divine leading to convert the property into a hotel. With my years of travel and exposure, have always sought out the best hotels to stay in abroad. However, I noticed a significant gap in the Nigerian hospitality industry. Although my background is in oil and gas, decided to venture into hospitality after reflecting on divine leading and the market gap.
The vision for The Delborough is to export African hospitality to the world. I’m pleased to share that in just six months since launching, we’ve already attracted interns from universities in countries like Mexico and Brazil who want to study what we’ve accomplished here in Nigeria. This is a testament to the quality and uniqueness of what we are offering.
How’s it going so far? What are your future plans for expanding your footprint in the hospitality industry?

Dear Reader,
SURVIV RS
By Dr. Kemi DaSilva-Ibru
Welcome to the WARIF Survivor Stories Series, a monthly feature where stories of survivors of rape and sexual violence are shared to motivate and encourage survivors to speak their truth without the fear of judgment or stigmatisation and to educate the public on the sheer magnitude of this problem in our society. The Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF) is a non-profit organisation set up in response to the extremely high incidence of rape, sexual violence, and human trafficking of young girls and women in our society. WARIF is tackling this issue through a holistic approach that covers health, education, and community service initiatives. WARIF aids survivors of rape and sexual violence through the WARIF Centre - a haven where trained professionals are present full time, six days a week, including public holidays, to offer immediate medical care, forensic medical examinations, psycho-social counselling, and welfare services, which include shelter, legal aid, and vocational skills training. These services are provided FREE of charge to any survivor who walks into the centre.
My name is Ella. I’m a 24-year-old lady, and this is my story
My mother is a widow with two children; I have an older brother who is married and lives with his family in the Northern part of Nigeria. My mother has been responsible for our upbringing since the demise of my father, with the assistance of my uncle from when was a toddler until completed my secondary education. After finished my WAEC and JAMB, my uncle, who resides in Lagos, requested that come over and spend the holidays with him and his family, pending when my results will be released. My mother felt it would help me to explore another city since I was always helping her sell her wares while refusing to go out with my peers. After I arrived at my uncle’s house, I had lots of opportunities to relax, watch movies and to visit the mall to window shop since my uncle and his wife had thriving business which kept them busy. My uncle gave me pocket money to buy whatever needed whenever I went out, and since my uncle’s children were all grown and married to their spouses, he did not have any financial responsibilities towards them.
I observed our neighbour living in the next apartment, who was relatively close to my uncle and his wife. Whenever he visited the house, he would invite me to pay him a visit, which I turned down, but he always insisted, so I promised to do so when I was less busy. On one such occasion, I went to his apartment, and he seemed nice. We chatted as if I had known him for a long time, and he escorted me back to my uncle’s apartment. After the first visit, it did not seem strange any longer when he came around, although did not feel comfortable visiting a guy’s apartment alone.
me in with a note that there was food in the fridge and should rest till he returned from work.
He came back from work in the evening, apologising while asking for my forgiveness. I requested my phone, but he would not give it to me nor allow me to go to my uncle’s house. He forced me to shower and eat the food he brought back from work, and I did. He insisted I join his movie night, but refused, he became forceful, and I was fearful for my life that he may harm me, so did, and he repeated the same; he raped me two more times before morning; I was exhausted and tired. Immediately, he was done with the incident and began pleading for forgiveness as usual, saying it was the devil and that I was too exhausted to say anything. I was experiencing pain, anger and sadness while praying for my uncle to return earlier.
It seemed my prayers were answered. My uncle and his wife cut their trip short because, according to them, my phone was switched off, and whenever they called the perpetrator, he would tell them I was okay and when they asked him to take the phone home to me, he will tell them he was not at home. My uncle and his wife arrived and met my absence; he asked his wife to report at the nearest police station while he came to look for me at the perpetrator’s apartment. He knocked on the door, and unfortunately for the perpetrator, he opened the door, thinking it was the dispatch which came with the food he ordered; my uncle pushed the door open and found me in a sorry state; he held him tightly while controlling himself not to hit him. Fortunately, my aunt arrived just in time with the police, and he was handed over to the police while we all went to the station.
The police referred us to the WARIF Centre. At the CENTRE, I received medical assessment, treatment and psycho-social counselling for free. The staff at WARIF Centre are very professional and dedicated in the discharge of their duties. accessed psychosocial counselling for free, and this helped me begin my healing journey from trauma. My counselling sessions with the counsellor at WARIF Centre have been very helpful and helped me to heal. I was taught coping mechanisms to help deal with my emotions, and I can confidently say am in a safe space of hope, healing and peace. also joined the group therapy session, where I developed a sense of belonging, which helped to build up my selfesteem. The perpetrator was charged to court and convicted for crimes committed against me. It’s been a few years now, and I do not feel like ending my life again because I see the light at the end of my ordeal.
I am in my final year at university. have healed emotionally and psychologically, and I look forward to becoming an advocate for the sexually violated in society.
Thank you to the Management and staff of WARIF Centre for restoring hope and confidence in me and other survivors.

On my second visit, he came around and noticed that I was home alone. He asked why, and I told him that my uncle and his wife had an emergency call home, and they came home to inform me that they would be back by the weekend. He asked me to come around to watch a movie with him, I refused, he persisted, and we went to his apartment that evening. He insisted that he would prepare a meal, and he did and served drinks, to which I told him I do not take alcohol. He maintained that it was low alcohol and would not affect me; after taking it, I lost consciousness of myself; was drowsy as he lifted and placed me on his long sofa, removed my clothes, inserted his penis into my vagina and raped me. When woke up, I was feeling weak with pain in my vagina. He had gone to work and locked

IS OZEMPIC A SOLUTION TO SLIMMING DOWN OR A DANGEROUS FAD?
The quest for the perfect body has led countless individuals on a journey filled with trendy diets, intense exercise routines, and a plethora of weight-loss supplements. Enter Ozempic, the latest buzzword in the slimming world. Hailed by some as a revolutionary breakthrough, this drug has quickly gained a cult-like following. But the big question remains: is Ozempic the miracle solution we’ve been waiting for, or just another dangerous fad in disguise?
What is Ozempic?
Ozempic, or semaglutide, is primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes. It works by mimicking a hormone called GLP-1, which regulates blood sugar levels and slows down gastric emptying, leading to reduced appetite. While its primary function is to help manage diabetes, its side effect of weight loss has caught the attention of many looking to shed pounds.
The Science Behind Ozempic
Clinical studies have shown that Ozempic can lead to significant weight loss. Participants in a trial lost an average of 12-14% of their body weight over 68 weeks, which is substantial, especially compared to other weight-loss medications. The mechanism is straightforward: by reducing appetite and slowing digestion, Ozempic helps individuals eat less and feel full longer.
The Appeal
The appeal of Ozempic is clear. For many struggling with obesity, the traditional routes of diet and exercise can be frustrating and often lead to yo-yo dieting. A medication that can help suppress appetite and promote weight loss without the need for extreme lifestyle changes seems like a dream come true.
Celebrities and influencers have also jumped on the bandwagon, endorsing the drug and sharing their weight-loss journeys on social media. This has further fueled the demand and curiosity surrounding Ozempic, making it a hot topic in wellness circles.
The Risks and Side Effects
However, like any medication, Ozempic is not without its risks. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and constipation. More severe, albeit rarer, side effects include pancreatitis, kidney problems, and allergic reactions. Long-term use of Ozempic for weight loss is still not fully understood, and there are concerns about its impact on overall health.
There’s also the issue of dependency. Because Ozempic alters the body’s natural hormone balance, stopping the medication can lead to a rebound effect, where individuals regain the lost weight, sometimes even more. This can create a cycle of dependency, making it difficult for users to maintain their weight without the drug.
The Cost Factor
Ozempic is not cheap . The monthly cost can be several hundred dollars, making them inaccessible for many people.
The Bigger Picture: Lifestyle Changes
While Ozempic can be a useful tool for weight loss, it should not be seen as a standalone solution. Experts agree that sustainable weight loss and overall health improvement come from a combination of a balanced diet, regular exercise, and healthy lifestyle changes. Relying solely on a medication like Ozempic can lead to neglecting these crucial aspects of health.
Personal Stories
To gain a well-rounded perspective, let’s look at some personal stories. Tosin, a 35-year-old in Lagos, started taking Ozempic after struggling with her weight for years.
“I’ve tried everything from keto to intermittent fasting, but nothing worked long-term. Ozempic has been a game-changer for me. I’ve lost 30 pounds in six months and feel better than ever,” she shares.
Conversely, Mike, 42, had a different experience. “I lost weight initially, but the side effects were unbearable. Constant nausea and digestive issues made it hard to function. I had to stop, and unfortunately, regained the weight I lost,” he recounts.
Expert Opinions
An Abuja-based endocrinologist cautions against viewing Ozempic as a miracle drug.
“While it can be effective for weight loss, it’s essential to use it under medical supervision and as part of a comprehensive weight management plan. Patients need to be aware of the potential side effects and the importance of lifestyle changes,” she advises. Ultimately, the decision to use Ozempic should be made in consultation with a healthcare provider, taking into account individual health needs and goals. And while Ozempic can provide a jumpstart to weight loss, true, lasting change comes from a commitment to a healthy lifestyle. After all, there’s no substitute for the age-old advice: eat well, move more, and take care of your body.
1. Accept the Chaos
First things first, it’s time to embrace the chaos. Life is messy, unpredictable, and sometimes downright unfair. Instead of fighting it, lean into it. Acknowledge that feeling lost is a part of the journey. You’re not alone in this; countless others are right there with you, trying to make sense of it all.
2. Detox from Social Media
We’ve all been there—scrolling through Instagram, seeing our peers seemingly thriving while we’re just trying to keep our heads above water. It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparison. The solution? A social media detox. Take a break from the curated highlight reels and focus on your reality. Use this time to reconnect with yourself and the things that genuinely make you happy.
3. Revisit Your Passions
Remember those hobbies and interests you had before life got so serious? It’s time to bring them back. Whether it’s painting or baking, rediscovering old passions can be incredibly therapeutic. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about finding joy in the process.
4. Travel (Even if it’s Just a Staycation)
Traveling has always been a fantastic way to gain perspective. While you may not be able to jet off to Bali on a whim, even a staycation can do wonders. Explore your local surroundings, try new activities, and step out of your comfort zone. Sometimes, a change of scenery is all you need to reset your mindset.
5. Seek Out New Challenges
Stagnation is a common culprit in midlife crises. Challenge yourself by learning something new. It could be anything from taking a course that could help with a new career to trying your hands on a new business lead. The goal is to keep your brain engaged and remind yourself that you’re capable of growth and change.
6. Invest in Relationships
Midlife is the perfect time to reassess your relation-

ships. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people who inspire and uplift you. Let go of toxic relationships that drain your energy. Invest in building meaningful connections that add value to your life.
7. Focus on Health and Wellness
It’s time to prioritise your physical and mental health. This doesn’t mean you need to run a marathon or become a yoga guru overnight. Start small—take daily walks, practice mindfulness, eat nutritious foods, and ensure you’re getting enough sleep. Your body and mind will thank you.
8. Career Check-In
If your job feels like a dead-end, it’s time for a career check-in. Reflect on what you truly want from your professional life. Are you seeking more fulfilment, a better work-life balance, or perhaps a complete career change? Take proactive steps to align your career with your values and goals. It might be scary, but it can also be incredibly rewarding.
9. Financial Planning
Money stress is a huge part of the millennial midlife crisis. Take control of your finances by creating a budget, paying down debt, and saving for the future. Consider speaking with a financial advisor to get a clear picture of your financial health and make informed decisions.
10. Give Back
Helping others can provide a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Whether volunteering your time, donating to a cause you care about, or simply being there for friends and family, giving back can be a powerful way to navigate your midlife crisis.
11. Embrace the Unknown
Finally, embrace the unknown. Life is an ever-evolving journey, and it’s okay not to have all the answers. Embrace the uncertainty and be open to new opportunities and experiences. Trust that you’re on the right path, even if it doesn’t always feel like it.

YOUR ULTIMATE GUIDE TO BRIGHTER EYES
Understanding the Causes of Dark Circles Before we jump into the solutions, it’s essential to understand the root causes of dark circles. They can be caused by a variety of factors, including:
• Genetics: Sometimes, dark circles are simply a part of your genetic makeup.
• Lack of Sleep: Inadequate rest can lead to a paler complexion, making blood vessels beneath your skin more visible.
• Dehydration: When your body is dehydrated, the skin beneath your eyes can look dull and sunken.
• Skin Type: People with thinner skin or higher levels of melanin may be more prone to dark circles.
• Allergies and Sinus Issues: These can cause blood vessels under the eyes to dilate and become more apparent. Knowing the cause of your dark circles can help you choose the most effective treatment.
Lifestyle Changes: The First Step to Brighter Eyes
1. Get Enough Sleep: Aim for at least 7 hours of quality sleep each night. A regular sleep schedule can work wonders for your overall health and appearance.
2. Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water throughout the day helps maintain your skin’s elasticity and glow.
3. Wear Sunscreen. Daily application can prevent hyperpigmentation and protect the delicate skin around your eyes from harmful UV rays.
Skincare: Nourish Your Under-Eye Area
Dark circles under the eyes can be a common concern for many people, regardless of age or gender. These pesky shadows often make us look tired, older, and less vibrant than we feel. But don’t worry—there are several effective strategies to help you reduce their appearance and regain a fresh, youthful look.
Investing in good skincare products can make a significant difference in reducing dark circles. Here are some key ingredients to look for in eye creams and serums:
• Hyaluronic Acid: This hydrates and plumps the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and dark circles.
• Peptides: These help to boost collagen production, improving skin elasticity and firmness.
• Vitamin C: Known for its brightening properties, Vitamin C can lighten dark spots and even out skin tone.
• Ceramides: These help to restore and maintain the skin’s natural barrier, keeping it hydrated and protected.
HOW TO GET RID OF UNDER-EYE DARK CIRCLES: 10 Reasons You Should Make Time to Read Every Day
To reduce dark circles, focus on incorporating these nutrients:
• Vitamins C and E: These vitamins are powerful antioxidants that can help improve skin health. Foods rich in Vitamin C include citrus fruits, strawberries, and bell peppers, while Vitamin E can be found in nuts, seeds, and leafy greens.
• Iron: Low iron levels can cause dark circles. Include iron-rich foods like spinach, red meat, and lentils in your diet.
• Hydration: Besides drinking water, eat water-rich foods like cucumbers, tomatoes, and watermelon to keep your skin hydrated.
Also, reduce your salt intake to avoid fluid retention, which can cause puffiness under the eyes.
Professional Treatments: When You Need Extra Help
If home remedies and lifestyle changes aren’t enough, consider professional treatments. These can be more expensive but often provide quicker and more noticeable results:
1. Laser Therapy: This can help to reduce pigmentation and stimulate collagen production.
2. Dermal Fillers: Injecting fillers into the under-eye area can add volume and smooth out the skin, reducing the appearance of dark circles.
3. Chemical Peels: These can lighten dark circles by removing the top layers of discoloured skin.
Apply your eye cream or serum with gentle tapping motions using your ring finger to avoid tugging at the delicate skin.
Natural Remedies: Simple Solutions from Your Kitchen
You don’t always need fancy products to treat dark circles. Here are a couple of home remedies that can be surprisingly effective:
1. Cold Compress: Applying a cold compress to your eyes can reduce puffiness and shrink dilated blood vessels, making dark circles less noticeable.
2. Chilled Cucumber Slices: Place chilled cucumber slices on your eyes for about 10-15 minutes. Cucumbers have skin-lightening and astringent properties that can help reduce dark circles.
Diet: Nourish Your Skin from Within Your diet plays a crucial role in your skin’s health.
Consult with a dermatologist to determine the best treatment option for you.
Makeup: The Quick Fix
While working on long-term solutions, makeup can be a great temporary fix. Here’s how to use makeup to cover dark circles:
1. Choose the Right Concealer: Use a slightly lighter concealer than your skin tone. A peach or orange-toned concealer can counteract dark circles’ blue or purple hues.
2. Apply Correctly: Use a small brush or ring finger to apply concealer in a triangle shape under your eyes, blending it out gently for a natural look.
3. Set with Powder: To prevent creasing, set your concealer with a light dusting of translucent powder.
Reading, once a cornerstone of intellectual development and personal growth, is gradually becoming a dying culture. Yet, the benefits of making time to read every day are profound, and perhaps now more than ever, we need to rekindle this habit. Here are ten compelling reasons why you should carve out time each day to immerse yourself in the written word.
the more you’ll find yourself using words you didn’t even know you knew. And trust me, there’s nothing more satisfying than casually dropping a new word into a conversation and seeing the look of surprise on someone’s face.
4. It Improves Your Focus and Concentration
In a world of constant distractions, our ability to focus is being chipped away bit by bit. Reading is a great way to reclaim your concentration. When you read, you’re forced to slow down and pay attention to the details. You can’t skim through a novel and expect to understand the plot. This practice of focused attention can translate into other areas of your life, making you more productive and less susceptible to the lure of the ever-present smartphone.
5. Reading Is a Conversation Starter
Have you ever found yourself at a loss for words during a conversation? Books can be your saviour. Reading regularly gives you a well of knowledge and ideas to draw from, making you a more interesting and engaging conversationalist. Whether you’re discussing the latest bestseller or a classic novel, having a few books under your belt can make you the life of the party—or at least help you avoid awkward silences.
6. It Keeps Your Brain Healthy
Just like physical exercise is essential for your body, mental exercise is crucial for your brain. Reading is one of the best ways to keep your brain in top shape. Studies have shown that regular reading can improve brain function, slow cognitive decline, and even reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. So, if you want to keep your mind sharp well into your golden years, pick up a book and start reading.
7. Reading Teaches You Empathy
One of the most profound effects of reading is its ability to make us more empathetic. When you read, you step into the shoes of the characters, experiencing their joys and sorrows as if they were your own. This deep emotional connection helps you understand and relate to the people around you, fostering empathy and compassion. Reading can be a bridge that brings us closer together in a world that often feels divided.
8. It’s a Low-Cost Entertainment
1. Reading Boosts Your Imagination
Remember the last time you lost yourself in a book, visualising the world the author created? Reading is like a workout for your brain’s imagination centre. Unlike movies or TV shows, where everything is laid out for you, reading requires you to create the scenes in your mind. This imaginative exercise is not only fun but also keeps your creative juices flowing. Whether you’re an artist, a writer, or just someone who enjoys daydreaming, reading is the perfect way to keep your imagination sharp.
2. It’s a Mini-Vacation for Your Mind
Let’s face it: life is stressful. We all need a break from the constant barrage of notifications, deadlines, and responsibilities. Reading offers an escape like no other. Whether you’re diving into a fantasy novel or exploring a historical event, reading takes you to places you’ve never been without leaving your couch. It’s a vacation for your mind—a chance to explore new worlds, meet interesting characters, and forget about your own worries, if only for a little while.
3. Reading Enhances Your Vocabulary
Want to impress your friends with your vast vocabulary or sound like the smartest person in the room?
Make reading a daily habit. Books are treasure troves of words, some familiar and others exotic, that can expand your linguistic horizons. The more you read,
At a time when entertainment often comes with a hefty price tag, reading remains one of the most affordable ways to pass the time. Books are relatively inexpensive, and with libraries offering a wealth of titles for free, there’s no excuse not to dive into a good book. Plus, unlike other forms of entertainment, reading requires no special equipment—just a book and a quiet spot.
9. Reading Helps You Sleep Better
Struggling to get a good night’s sleep? Swap out your screen time before bed for a book. The blue light emitted by phones and tablets can interfere with your sleep, but reading a physical book helps signal to your brain that it’s time to wind down. The repetitive motion of turning pages and the soothing act of reading can lull you into a state of relaxation, making it easier to drift off to sleep.
10. It’s a Dying Culture Worth Saving Finally, and perhaps most importantly, reading is a culture that’s slowly fading. With the rise of digital media, fewer people are making time to sit down with a good book. But think about this: books have been around for centuries, passing down knowledge, wisdom, and stories from generation to generation. If we let reading die, we lose not just a pastime but a crucial part of our cultural heritage. By making time to read every day, you’re not just enriching your own life—you’re keeping a tradition alive.
