Can you feel it? It’s that magical time of year when everything feels alive—every street corner, every twinkling light, and every soul you encounter is wrapped in the essence of the season. The “Detty December” festivities are in full swing, and as expected, the calendar is brimming with events that cater to every mood and vibe imaginable. There’s something for everyone, from our hitmakers taking over massive concert stages to intimate nights at cosy lounges. And, of course, the IJGBs (I Just Got Back are here. You know the drill. They’re home for the holidays, fresh from Heathrow or JFK, with their foreign accents and big-city stories. There’s a peculiar charm to this yearly migration. It’s not just about the returnees; it’s the mix of everyone being back in town, spirits high, sharing in the collective joy of the season. There’s laughter spilling out of car windows, the scent of jollof rice wafting through the air, and vendors hustling with their Christmas wares. It’s chaotic, it’s beautiful, it’s uniquely Nigerian.
For my Lagos people, let’s talk about that one inevitable feature of the season: the traffic. If you thought Lagos roads were bad before, December traffic is another beast entirely. It’s the kind of chaos that makes you question your life choices while stuck on Third Mainland Bridge for two hours. But here’s the thing—plan accordingly, and you’ll survive. If you’re moving from one party to the next, give yourself ample time. Right now, every trip feels like an adventure, but somehow, it all adds to the magic. And let’s be honest, though—we Nigerians deserve this. It’s been a crazy year. A year of twists and turns, highs and lows, and moments that tested our patience and resilience. So yes, we’re saying yes to the celebrations. All of it. This is our collective exhale, our chance to let loose and revel in the joy we’ve earned. It’s our moment to celebrate life, love, and each other.
Speaking of love, if you’re out there single, partying and mingling, I hope you are taking advantage of the connections you are making and looking out to meet someone special. If not, how can you not be?
Everyone’s in high spirits, the city feels like one giant party, and there’s something inherently romantic about December nights. For those curious about how to go about this, I’ve written an article titled - Is the Christmas holiday the best time to meet someone new? - amongst other things, it will give you tips on how to navigate the season’s social whirl and maybe even meet someone who makes your heart skip a beat.
I love love. Always have, always will. And what better time than now to embrace the magic of possibilities?
As we count down the days to Christmas, wish you all the loveliest holiday ahead. Here’s to love, laughter, and all the magic this time of year brings.

WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE SANTARED HOW TO STYLE FESTIVE
If you’ve ever hesitated before pulling on that crimson sweater or ruby dress, wondering if you’d end up looking like you belong in the North Pole, don’t fret. Red can be chic,
Go Monochrome
Red is a power colour, and when styled head-to-toe, it screams confidence rather than Claus. But there’s an art to monochrome dressing. Mix different shades of red for depth—think crimson trousers with a slightly darker cherry blazer. This subtle variation adds interest to your outfit while maintaining its bold statement.
Accessorise with Red
If wearing red head-to-toe feels daunting, start small. Incorporate the hue through accessories: a red belt to cinch your waist, scarlet heels to brighten a black jumpsuit, or a crimson bag for a pop of festive colour. Accessories allow you to embrace the season without committing to a full red outfit, and
they’re a great way to inject some holiday cheer into your look without overdoing it.
Pair with Unconventional Colours
Red and green might be the holiday classics, but pairing them together often screams Christmas. Instead, experiment with unexpected combinations. Red and pink create a bold, fashion-forward contrast, while red and navy exude timeless elegance. For an edgier vibe, pair red with metallics like gold or silver, but keep it sleek—think a red dress with gold jewellery, not tinsel-inspired sparkle.
Break It Up with Prints
Incorporating red into a print is another way to embrace the colour without letting it dominate your
look. A red floral or abstract print dress feels festive but modern, especially when paired with minimal accessories. Stripes or polka dots with a hint of red can also add a playful, stylish edge to your outfit without feeling overly holidaythemed.
Balance Proportions
Santa’s signature look is iconic, but let’s be honest—he’s not exactly a style icon. To avoid veering into cartoonish territory, pay attention to proportions. If you’re wearing a bold red piece, keep the rest of your outfit fitted and streamlined. A red oversized sweater looks effortlessly chic when paired with skinny jeans or leather leggings, while a tailored red blazer pops against a simple black turtleneck and trousers.
Focus on Makeup and Nails
Sometimes, wearing festive red isn’t about the clothes at all. A bold red lip or perfectly painted nails in a deep crimson shade can channel all the festive vibes without the risk of looking overdressed. Pair your makeup with a sleek black outfit or even a neutral ensemble to let the red pop.
Choose Modern Silhouettes
Classic red pieces in modern silhouettes can make all the difference. Look for asymmetrical cuts, high slits, or structured tailoring to keep your outfit feeling fresh. A structured red blazer dress, for example, feels far from Santa-inspired and exudes boss energy. Similarly, a red one-shoulder top paired with white wide-leg trousers is sleek and sophisticated.

AYO AMUSAN TRAILBLAZER OF RETAIL!
Ayo Amusan is the Founder and CEO of Persianas Retail Limited (PRL), a pioneering retail company that has redefined Nigeria’s retail landscape. Under her leadership, PRL has grown into Nigeria’s highest-earning sports brand retailer, with exclusive partnerships with global brands like PUMA, Lacoste, and GUESS. It also has 14 retail locations, including its flagship multi-brand store, The Mix.
With over 20 years of experience spanning retail, entertainment, and real estate, Ayo has demonstrated a unique ability to blend strategic insight with innovation, driving PRL’s success and securing partnerships with top international brands like Hugo Boss, Hackett, and Armani.
Her deep understanding of the Nigerian market and commitment to making premium international brands accessible to local consumers has positioned her as a key player in the country’s emerging retail sector.
Notably, Ayo’s leadership is a testament to her advocacy for female empowerment, with women playing a significant role in her company and the broader retail sector she has helped shape. She has also been instrumental in expanding PRL’s footprint globally, notably through high-profile collaborations like the PUMA X Davido collection, which disrupted the industry and positioned PRL as a fashion authority.
As a member of the Business of Fashion’s exclusive BoF 500 and a board member of several influential organisations, Ayo continues to push boundaries. She is committed to promoting a culture of innovation, excellence, and community in Nigeria’s retail and entertainment industries.
This week, Funke Babs-Kufeji speaks to the visionary leader who shares the secrets behind her success and her vision for the future of retail in Nigeria and beyond.
You’ve built Persianas Retail Limited (PRL) into one of Nigeria’s most successful retail companies. What inspired you to start this journey, and how did you envision transforming Nigeria’s retail landscape?
Thank you; it’s lovely sitting with you. The journey started when we embarked on the mission to create the first shopping mall in Nigeria. in creating the malls, it was important to ensure that our consumers had access to global brands at their doorstep and an elevated shopping experience that met global standards. Once we built the mall, we approached the global brands we wanted to see in the space, showing them that we could showcase their brand and products to the same global standard – from the store design to fittings and visual merchandising.
We were always confident that we could build a global retail experience, and we believed that once we did, it would set the tone for businesses to follow.
PRL is a true leader in the Nigerian retail space. You’ve brought iconic global brands like PUMA, Lacoste, Hugo Boss, and GUESS to Nigerian
consumers. Can you take us through the process of getting these brands to the Nigerian market? What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?
PRL has become a trusted partner for global brands looking to expand their footprint in Africa, particularly Nigeria, because of our extensive industry experience. We have been at the forefront of retail for over 15 years. There are several factors to consider when bringing these brands into the market – from the taste of the Nigerian consumer to their spending power – all of these insights guide our selection of the brands that we believe will work in the market.
Once we identified those brands, we initiated conversations, which were always challenging on so many topics. For instance, it is crucial for the brands to be showcased the same way you would see their brand in New York or Paris for example. The infrastructure at the time was not in place for this. However, once we showed the brand our vision for its presence in the mall, this became easier. Whilst these brands had an eye on the continent and even the market, most didn’t know how to navigate entry into the market or who to trust
The First Lady of Real Estate
with the brands, and that is where we excel – showing ourselves as credible partners that can guide and ensure a successful launch.
As a female entrepreneur, you’ve set a powerful example of leadership. What role has been a woman played in shaping your approach to business, and how do you feel about leading a notable female-led company with strong female representation in leadership roles?
I have always believed in writing my own story and showing up as my authentic self, whether professionally or personally. I take the driver’s seat in my journey, and yes, while being a woman in a male-dominated industry presents its challenges, I show up as a competent and experienced professional. This mindset is also what I try to instil in my team, encouraging them to embrace their own authenticity.
I am not the stereotypical CEO—you can see this from my style and approach. I have always tried to stay true to myself, and show up as exactly who I am—a perfectly imperfect, innovative, and capable executive with a great team. A significant part of my success can be attributed to the incredible team I have around me. Yes, our workforce is predominantly women, and we love and are quite protective of our male colleagues. But PRL has always been a merit-based organisation, and it’s no coincidence that the women on our team excel—they’re exceptionally dedicated, efficient, and skilled in their roles. Truly, their hard work and commitment have been instrumental in driving our success, and I am proud to lead such a talented group of individuals, both male and female, who inspire me daily.
You’ve successfully merged local and international brands, creating a retail experience that resonates with Nigerian consumers. How do you balance global appeal with local relevance, especially as fashion and consumer preferences continue to evolve in Nigeria?
Africa is the future, and this recognition by the global market underscores the continent’s growing influence. It highlights the significant role African creatives play in shaping the fashion industry and the immense potential for collaborations between these two spheres
We are in the business of selling products to consumers, and the consumer’s tastes and buying patterns are always evolving; our job is to meet and fulfil those needs. We ensure that our space has access to home-grown brands and products, whether fashion or FMCG products, to meet those needs – we ensure that our customers don’t have to look elsewhere to purchase a product. That is the beauty of retail: we do our research into what the trends are and what the consumers are looking for, and we cater to that.
The collaboration between PUMA and Davido is a groundbreaking initiative. What do you think this collaboration represents for the future of African fashion and retail on the global stage, and how do you see PRL playing a role in this movement? Africa is the future, and this recognition by the global market underscores the continent’s growing influence. It highlights the significant role African creatives play in shaping the fashion industry and the immense potential for collaborations between these two spheres. The success of the Puma x Davido collaboration has opened doors and set a benchmark, sparking ongoing conversations with several brands eager to replicate this winning formula.
At PRL, we are always ready to share our stories. We will forever champion those who are passionate about their ambition in the creative space and continue to celebrate the rich talent Africa has to offer.
As someone with extensive experience in retail and real estate, how do you see the intersection of these two industries influencing the growth of Nigeria’s economy in the coming years? What are some key trends you foresee in retail and commercial real estate in Nigeria?
Real estate is intrinsically linked to brick-and-mortar retail. While
digital commerce continues to grow, many consumers still prefer the tactile and immersive experience of shopping in-store. Retail is more than just commerce—it’s a catalyst for job creation, local and international investment, and economic growth. As the retail sector expands, the demand for commercial spaces rises, driving the development of malls and dedicated retail hubs
In your leadership journey, what have been the biggest lessons you’ve learned about managing a company in a rapidly growing yet sometimes volatile market like Nigeria? What advice would you offer to women looking to break into traditionally male-dominated industries?
Building a successful retail business in Nigeria is not easy. The challenges are deeply rooted in macroeconomic factors such as inflation, fluctuating foreign exchange rates, limited access to funds, infrastructure deficits, logistical bottlenecks, and clearing inefficiencies. Unfortunately, retail is highly dependent on these variables.
At PRL, we’ve honed the ability to navigate these complexities by staying proactive and forward-thinking. We prioritise meticulous planning, accounting for multiple scenarios to remain agile and resilient. Our approach isn’t just about addressing today’s needs—it’s about preparing for the unexpected and ensuring long-term success.
You’ve been named to the prestigious Business of Fashion (BoF 500) list. How does it feel to be recognised among the global leaders shaping the future of fashion, and what do you hope to contribute to the worldwide conversation about retail and fashion?
Being named to the BoF 500 list is an incredible honour and a testament to the hard work and vision that has gone into shaping our journey in fashion and retail. It’s inspiring to be recognised alongside global leaders who are transforming the industry. aim to advocate for greater inclusivity and innovation in fashion while highlighting the unique role of African markets in shaping global trends.
My goal is to continue using our work at PRL to change the narrative of how business is done in Nigeria. I want to show the world that we have the competency, integrity, and capacity to build global brands while highlighting the amazing potential and talents that exist within our local markets.
You’ve built a strong, multifaceted empire—retail, entertainment, real estate, and more. How do you balance your personal life with the demands of such a dynamic career? What practices or routines keep you grounded?
Finding balance can be pretty tough, especially as we work in a fast-paced environment where change is always around the corner. However, I totally understand that you cannot pour from an empty cup, so whenever I feel overwhelmed by work and life, I love to escape to the sea. My father was a huge water lover, and I grew up surrounded by it. My siblings and can’t even remember life without it, so it’s my ultimate getaway.
Being a true water baby, find so much peace and clarity out there and in my downtime I’m actually a sea captain!
Family is my number one priority, and spending quality time with them is a constant reminder of what truly matters.
As a trailblazer in Nigeria’s retail and fashion industries, how do you stay inspired and keep pushing the envelope? What drives you to continue creating and innovating in the way you do?
I’m really just in competition with myself. I’m always thinking about how I can be better today than yesterday - and that mindset carries over into our work. I ask myself How can use my platform to help others and make a positive impact. How can we serve our customers even better? How can we continue using fashion and music retail to shape global discourse on sustainability, inclusivity and cultural representation? How can we make a difference, no matter how small? – this is what inspires me.
In addition to being the CEO of PRL, you’re also involved in several boards and leadership initiatives. How do you manage your time and energy to stay effective across so many ventures? What’s your approach to leadership and collaboration in these spaces?
Honestly, I’m a bit of a workaholic! often say retail never sleeps – and of course, I am a retailer. This is not a solution, though! So, “don’t try this at home.” But on a serious note, and to answer your question - yes, while I wear many hats – the test of a true leader is
leading by example. I’m passionate about empowering my team and helping them grow. You are only as good or as successful as the team that you have around you. empower my team, trust them to make the right decisions, and hold themselves accountable for mistakes and our shared success.
And, of course, creating a positive culture and a supportive work environment is crucial to everything we do.
Looking forward, what are some of your biggest goals for PRL? How do you see the company evolving over the next 5-10 years, and what exciting plans or projects do you have on the horizon?
We are building an ecosystem centred around trade, community development, infrastructure improvement, tourism, and entertainment. Many of our brands are in sports and athleisure, and it’s clear that fashion can only be discussed with acknowledging the influence of sports and sports retail.
As we grow, we remain committed to being a positive force in the communities where we operate. Our social responsibility efforts will expand, focusing on education, youth development, and environmental sustainability.
Our plans include expanding beyond our current presence by opening new stores in key locations across Nigeria and bringing our curated selection of brands to a broader customer base. We’ll
also continue to invest in e-commerce, ensuring a smooth and efficient online shopping experience for customers nationwide.
As we grow, we remain committed to being a positive force in the communities where we operate. Our social responsibility efforts will expand, focusing on education, youth development, and environmental sustainability. By executing these strategies, PRL aims to become a leading force in Nigerian retail, not only in commercial success but also in creating lasting social impact.
Finally, you just hit a major milestone. Your 50th birthday! Happy birthday. What message do you have for the next generation of Nigerian women entrepreneurs and leaders who look up to you as a role model?
Yes, did and thank you. My message to the next generation of women would be to show up as your true and authentic self. I cannot state this enough. Trust in what you can do, and keep working hard to learn and grow because that journey never really ends. Just being good isn’t enough; aim to be the best at whatever you do. Believe in your ideas, and don’t give up on them until they become a reality. really hope that helps!
THE YUTEE RONE SS25 EXPERIENCE: A TROPICAL RAINFOREST
FASHION SHOW
Yutee Rone’s SS25 Tropical Rainforest fashion show wasn’t just an event but a spectacle—a breathtaking convergence of nature, artistry, and high fashion. From the moment attendees stepped into the venue, it was clear this was more than a runway show. It was an immersive journey, a celebration of creativity where the lush, untamed beauty of the rainforest intertwined seamlessly with cutting-edge fashion. Every detail, from the curated rainforest-inspired ambience to the stunning collection, reflected Yutee Rone’s signature blend of innovation and sophistication. The SS25 show wasn’t just about showcasing garments—it was about telling a story, creating a connection, and celebrating the spirit of inclusivity that lies at the heart of the brand.
A Stylish Audience
The audience wasn’t just watching a show—they were part of the story. With a room full of individuals embodying sophistication and refined elegance, it was clear who Yutee Rone designs for: people who value artistry, individuality, and class. The connection between the brand and its audience was palpable, as guests effortlessly mirrored the elegance and boldness of the collection. Every corner of the venue was thoughtfully designed to heighten the experience. Interactive photo spots, inspired by the rainforest theme, weren’t just Instagramworthy—they were a celebration of the collection’s aesthetic. These spaces invited guests to engage, capture memories, and take a piece of the show’s magic with them.
A Curated Evening
Yutee Rone transformed the event into an experience of pure indulgence. From gourmet rainforest-inspired bites to artfully crafted cocktails and mocktails, every detail spoke of luxury. The vibrant flavours and exotic presentations mirrored the vibrancy of the collection, creating a multisensory treat for the attendees.
The Fabric: A Symphony of Movement
At the heart of the SS25 collection was an awe-inspiring interplay of fabrics. Yutee Rone wove the rainforest
theme into every piece, with textures that told their own stories. Soft, flowing materials mimicked the sway of leaves in the wind, while structured silhouettes echoed the strength of tree trunks and vines. Under the lights, the garments shimmered like dewdrops on foliage, their movement mesmerizing the audience.
The collection’s dynamic use of textures— from airy, fluid fabrics to bold, sculptural elements—demonstrated Yutee Rone’s mastery of textile innovation and storytelling through design.
A Palette Rooted in Nature
The rainforest theme was brought to life with a vibrant and symbolic colour palette. Greens, from mossy to emerald, dominated the runway, representing growth and vitality. These hues were complemented by obsidian tones, adding a layer of mystery and depth. Splashes of co-
lour—reminiscent of tropical flowers and birds—provided moments of surprise and wonder, evoking the rainforest’s diversity and allure.
While rooted in nature, the collection embraced modern influences, blending rainforest-inspired designs with urban aesthetics. Sporty details, oversized silhouettes, and contemporary touches added a fresh, relatable edge to the collection. The result? Fashion that transitions effortlessly from runway to reality.
Designs That Defy Convention
The SS25 collection pushed boundaries with daring cuts, avant-garde silhouettes, and unexpected details. From asymmetrical designs to oversized streetwear-inspired elements, every piece challenged traditional notions of fashion while remaining wearable and elegant.
Yutee Rone struck a perfect balance between experimental boldness and timeless sophistication. This harmony ensured the collection resonated with a broad audience, from lovers of statement-making drama to admirers of understated elegance. Each piece was designed to make a statement, to radiate confidence, and to celebrate the wearer’s individuality. Whether through a dramatic gown or an urban-chic ensemble, the garments invited wearers to embrace their boldness and stand tall.
A Night
to Remember
The Yutee Rone SS25 Tropical Rainforest fashion show wasn’t just a showcase of clothing but an experience that left a lasting impression. From the bespoke curation of the event to the innovative designs on the runway, every element was crafted to create a sense of wonder and inspiration. Attendees left with a deeper appreciation for the artistry and vision behind the collection. The evening wasn’t just about fashion—it was about storytelling, inclusivity, and the celebration of nature’s beauty.
Radiant skin? Yes, please! Exfoliation is your best friend this season. Dedicate yourself (just for December!) to daily exfoliation for soft-as-a-cloud skin. Arm yourself with a coffee-infused scrub and a trusty loofah to slough away dead skin, leaving your body silky smooth and visibly improved. Bumps, scars, and even cellulite don’t stand a chance! Don’t forget to lock in that hydration with a luxurious lotion right after—hydrated skin equals happy skin.
Makeup That Stays All Night
Party-perfect makeup starts with a flawless base. Begin with your eyeshadow to avoid pesky fallout ruining your look. Amp up the drama with a flick of liquid eyeliner—it’s the perfect way to add a touch of glamour. For your foundation, make primer your go-to—it’s the secret weapon to keeping your makeup intact through all the dancing, mingling, and toasts. A smooth foundation application will set the stage for the rest of your makeup masterpiece. Seal it all in with a light dusting of setting powder, ensuring you stay picture-perfect all evening.
Alcohol-Proof Your Skin
We all know the festive season means plenty of indulgence, but your skin might not love that extra champagne as much as you do. Alcohol dehydrates your skin, leaving it dull and lifeless. Fight back with a nourishing cleansing milk enriched with hyaluronic acid to restore hydration. On recovery days, treat yourself to a brightening face mask or a spa-worthy facial to bring back that post-party glow. Your skin will thank you!
Bright Eyes, No Lies
Late nights don’t have to mean tired eyes. Combat puffiness with a quick eye massage—start at the inner corner and gently work your way around the eye area. Dark circles? They’re usually dehydration’s calling card, so up your water game. If plain water feels boring after a big night out, infuse it with slices of lemon or orange for a skin-loving twist. Got a little extra time? A soothing face mask can replenish those lost minerals and have you looking refreshed in no time.
Love Your Legs
Between endless parties and dancing in sky-high heels, your legs and feet deserve some TLC. Show them some love with a relaxing soak at least once a week—think warm water, Epsom salts, and a hint of lavender for ultimate relaxation. Keep your nails neatly trimmed, and don’t skip the moisturizer to keep your feet soft and party-ready. After all, happy feet make for a happy queen!
BEAUTY TIPS FOR THE PARTY SEASON
The festive season is here again, and it’s time to revel in the sparkle of Christmas feasts and New Year’s Eve soirees. Style queens, this is your moment to shine! But looking spectacular isn’t just about rocking that killer dress or fabulous stilettos—it starts with glowing skin and impeccable makeup. To ensure you’re the belle of every ball, we’ve crafted a beauty guide that will have you glowing through every celebration.
Shine On, Gorgeous! This party season, let your beauty routine be as unforgettable as the memories you’re about to make. Whether it’s silky skin, a flawless face, or refreshed feet, these tips will keep you dazzling from dusk till dawn. So step into the festivities with confidence— you’ve got this glow down to a science!
Cheers to a beautiful party season!
IS THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY THE BEST TIME TO MEET SOMEONE NEW?
Ah, Christmas in Nigeria—when the streets light up brighter than your cousin’s Instagram highlights and the phrase “Detty December” transforms from a cheeky rhyme to a full-on lifestyle. For many, this season is all about family reunions, endless parties, and good ol’ jollof rice.
But between the concerts, weddings, and house parties, the holiday season creates fertile ground for new romantic connections. But is festive dating all it’s cracked up to be?
By
What Makes Christmas Such a Social Magnet?
Let’s start with the obvious: people come alive during the holidays. There’s something magical about the Christmas lights, the cheery carols, and the aroma of fried meat wafting through the air. Everyone’s in high spirits, fueled by end-ofyear bonuses, bottles of champagne, and the hopeful promise of a fresh start come January.
“December is the one time you’ll find everyone you’ve ever met in Lagos at the same events,” jokes Tayo, a tech professional who met his girlfriend during a Christmas party last year. “It’s like the whole city is one big social experiment.”
And he’s not wrong. From the Afrobeats-filled concerts of Detty December to the endless queue of weddings tagged #ChideraAndSegun2024, this period is a frenzy of mingling.
Add the laid-back vibe of work-free weeks and an extra layer of glam thanks to the festive season, and it’s hard not to feel drawn to someone new.
The Detty December Phenomenon
If you’ve survived a Detty December, you’ll know it’s not for the faint of heart. The season comes with an itinerary that could rival a rockstar’s tour schedule—concerts, club nights, picnics, road trips, and owambes every weekend. For singles, these events are prime hunting grounds.
Take Lagos, for example, where the city practically transforms into a dating jungle. You’re just as likely to lock eyes with someone across the dance floor at a Burna Boy concert as you are to exchange numbers with a cute stranger at a rooftop party.
“You meet people at events you wouldn’t normally attend,” says Fola, a media executive. “Last year, I randomly ended up at a friend’s Christmas party where I met someone who lives five streets away from me. We spent the entire night talking and went on a proper date the next day.”
Pros of Festive Dating
Everyone’s in a Good Mood: The festive season has a way of softening even the hardest hearts. People are more open, more generous, and more willing to engage. It’s like the universe gifts everyone a little extra charm for the season.
Plenty of Opportunities: Between the house parties, street carnivals, and family get-togethers, there’s no shortage of opportunities to meet new people. You just have to show up.
Shared Experiences: Bonding over Christmas traditions or cracking jokes about Aunt Nkechi’s exaggerated storytelling can create a sense of intimacy that lasts beyond December.
The Challenges But before you get swept away by the allure of Christmas love, let’s get real. The festive season can also be a minefield. First, there’s the issue of temporary connections. Many people see the holidays as a time for short-term fun, not serious commitments. As Emeka, a frequent Detty December attendee, puts it: “People are more interested in holiday flings than something that will last past January.”
Then there’s the classic distance dilemma. You might meet someone amazing only to realise they live in Port Harcourt while you’re based in Abuja. Christmas gatherings are notorious for bringing people together who otherwise wouldn’t cross paths.
