Camelback...

R i d a t e t ! a h W O ne of many things Camelback Mountain Resort does not skimp on is creativity! With their annual Pond Skimming competition all set for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, this Tannersville hotspot continues its long standing tradition of sending off each winter season with a bang! Successfully crossing a 95 ft long, 25 ft wide, and 4 ft deep man-made pond is the objective as daring skiers and snowboards each attempt to gain enough momentum soaring downhill with hopes of avoiding a chilling dip. A load of laughs and tons of memories are the definite result as

skimmers show off their skills and flex their own creative muscles dressing in the wildest getups they can conceive. Seeking insight to the zaniest escapades of this long standing crowd pleaser inevitably leads to Barley Creek Brewing Company’s Trip Ruvane. This self described “Teller of Tales” holds high ranks on our “Best Teller” list. He tells of truths that include tackling the task with two lit tiki torches, as well as, jumping out of his ski boots at pond’s edge then swimming across the chilly channel. A three-piece suit, wedding dress, and a laundry list of more delirious digs are also revealed. When asked of Barley Creek’s past participation also in Camelback’s Cardboard Box Derby the day after Pond Skimming he obliges with a clever comment regarding longtime competitor Pocono Raceway. He replies, “Whenever the Raceway and Barley Creek compete against each other the vehicles really should be brought back to the garage for inspection,” admitting it’s all in good fun.

For more information on Camelback’s Pond Skimming & Cardboard Box Derby Race, visit www.skicamelback.com While he regrets other outof-state obligations will take him from this year’s competition; talk of persuading Barley staffers are his plan for March 22’s derby. Much to the disappointment of rooters for Ruvane, he adds skipping out on this year’s skimming for the same reason. Vowing there’s 12 months to consider his next jaw-dropping getup, he then challenges others to stir-up their own unique costume this year.

SPRING PEEK W

ater Gap Trolley takes a fresh approach to touring introducing its new virtual experience this spring! An invite goes out for one and all to “sit back and relax” in the comfort of an authentically styled trolley as live guides narrate masterfully arranged visuals delving into the region’s rich history. Footage is filled with interviews sharing a wealth of knowledge on Delaware Water Gap and Shawnee on the Delaware sites that WGT’s Deborah Ketterer calls “very entertaining.” Deb notes “A tremendous amount of history,” captured in one hour with popular points of interest that include Resort Point Overlook, Cold Air Cave, Castle Inn and more. Discussing thoughts behind

orchestrating the innovative adventure, she says, “There was so much more we were able to put into it,” adding, “Instead of just pointing we’re able to give an in depth look at these places.” With group and family friendly pricing, she

considers The Water Gap Trolley Experience a great opportunity for everyone to learn about the Pocono Mountains. Heated and airconditioned trolleys make for the perfect trip through time come rain or shine with extra incentives on the way...

This Week’s Fun Fact comes from the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s William Williams.

Did you know...while one welcomed sign of spring, besides calm winds and above freezing air temperatures, continues to be the sound of our fine feathered friends’ blissful chirping chatter; the courtship activity of the woodcock takes things just a bit further. Male timberdoodles establish singing grounds in wet woodland and field clearings where they “peent” to attract females. Flying upwards of 300 feet on twittering wings before spiraling back to earth in a zigzag pattern sounding a liquid, warbling song he sets his sights on “wooing” the females. Sounds strangely similar to some of the playful slope antics we all demonstrated at times in the winter of 2015, right?!

ur journey of “sights” to send out the 2015 ski season with a bang, takes us to Shawnee Mountain as they host their 30th Annual Costume Carnival Day Sunday March 22! This popular tradition invites one and all to stroll on up to the ticket window in full costume and receive a free same day lift ticket. While you don’t have to wear it skiing, you may want to “stay in character” as there’ll be judging and a costume parade at 1 p.m. with some pretty amazing prizes in store.

Costume categories range from Best Family and Best Junior to Funniest and Most Original. Bear in mind face paint only, masks, jewelry, swords and sports jerseys do not qualify for the free lift ticket so dress to the nines and ensure your free snow time!
