Tuesday is the Summer Solstice!

Tuesday, June 21st, is the first day of summer, the Summer Solstice. A major celestial event, the Summer Solstice results in the longest day and shortest night of the year across Earth’s Northern Hemisphere. In Latin derivation, sol means sun, and stice means to stand still. As days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher, until it seems to stand still in the sky. Celebrate summer’s arrival in the beautiful Pocono Mountains!

Bass Season opens June 18th Saturday, June 18th marks the opening of Bass Fishing Season on Commonwealth of Pennsylvania waters! The minimum size is 12 inches, and the daily limit is 6 total fish in any combination of bass species, largemouth or smallmouth. Although Pennsylvania was named for Penn’s Woods, its abundant, varied, healthy waters are a real attraction as well. There are more than 85,000 miles of streams and rivers, along with 4,000 inland lakes and ponds covering 160,000 acres, plus 470,000 acres of Lake Erie. What does this mean to anglers of all ages and abilities? There’s plenty of good fishing nearby, in streams, rivers, and lakes! To learn about all of the diverse fishing opportunities in the Pocono Mountains of northeast Pennsylvania, cast your line at the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission site, www.fish.state.pa.us, or call the Northeast Region Office at (570) 477-5717. Make sure to buy your license!
