The picturesque Pocono landmark was purchased as a fourteen-room inn in 1943 and has grown, under the ownership of the Ehrhardt family, to become a sprawling resort complete with suites, SEE cottages, family units, motel rooms, a restaurant and an elegant banquet center. Built on a legacy of warm hospitality, Ehrhardt’s Waterfront Resort has been passed down from generation to generation, and the family is now celebrating 70 years of service on Lake Wallenpaupack. As Lake Wallenpaupack grew in popularity, so did the Silver Birches Inn. The growing Ehrhardt family slowly Second generation owner expanded the property, buying up small Alice Ehrhardt parcels of land and building new cottages on the shoreline together. This Week in History

This Week in the Poconos has been in continuous publication since 1932. Under the direction of the Miller family, the magazine has shown Pocono locals and visitors Where to Go, What to Do and What to See for the past 82 years. Walk with us down memory lane as we revisit some of our earliest issues. In our newest series, This Week in History, we’ll take a look at what was happening in the Pocono Mountains starting from our early editions in the 1930s. In upcoming issues, we will showcase a corresponding publication from our archives. We’ll show you the cover and contents of the magazine, and explore some of the featured events. This week’s featured magazine was published on July 4, 1936. Stroudsburg’s Sherman Theatre was showing San Francisco, starring Clark Gable and Jeanette MacDonald; Buck Hill Falls celebrated the dedication of a new, Olympic-size swimming pool, and Harrison Park, near Blakeslee Corners, was featured in the “Where to Dance” section for its modern and old-fashioned Saturday evening dances.
