Festive Sights & Sounds of Fireworks set to Light-up the Poconos It’s no secret July in the Poconos offers a sight to see and hear as the area makes plans to put on some amazing dazzling sprays of light erupting in the night sky. The mountains add their own unique touch by lending nature’s acoustic hand echoing the patriotic tunes played by bands across the region. Whether searching for a large festival, lake view, or quiet park setting; we’ve gathered all the information on who, what and where to find this year’s hottest spots to see these spectacular performances. Watch for our next issue on stands July 3 with our two page map illustrating the sites to catch these sights!

Dansbury Park in East Stroudsburg Firework plans are in the mix for the 13th Annual American Freedom Festival being held at Dansbury Park in East Stroudsburg on Friday, July 4. AFF’s three day extravaganza includes live entertainment and this free fireworks display scheduled to start at dusk. The park is located on Day Street in East Stroudsburg. For more information, go to www. eastburgalliance.com. Downtown Scranton Enjoy a mix of colorfully explosive fireworks amidst the thunderous rhapsody of the NEPA Philharmonic, Thursday, July 3 in scenic Downtown Scranton. For details call 1-800-22-WELCOME or check out www.visitnepa.org Honesdale Central Park Visit the beautiful Central Park of Honesdale for an Independence Day Celebration presented by Wayne County Creative Arts Council on Thursday, July 3 for music, festivities and an amazing fireworks display. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for a “true piece of Norman Rockwell’s America.” The fun begins at 5 p.m. with fireworks at dusk. Rain date is July 6. Go to www. honesdaleparkevents.org or www. visitwaynecounty.com for more information. Jim Thorpe Memorial Park Gather with neighbors at the park Saturday July 5 for a colorful

spectacle in the sky at dusk. Call (570) 325-5810 for more information. Rain date July 6 Lake Wallenpaupack in Hawley Cometh by land or by sea -or lake in this case- for another spectacular fireworks display Friday, July 4 over Lake Wallenpaupack! Brought to you by the business owners and residents of the Lake Region of the Pocono Mountains including the Light House Harbor Marina pledging their support for the 20th year. Fireworks are set to start approximately 9:15 p.m. Parking will be available in the Wallenpaupack Area High School lot. The bleachers are open to spectators beginning at 7 p.m. Viewing is also available from the dike and by boat from the lake. For more information, go to www.lakeregioncc.com. Rain date July 5. Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Wilkes-Barre Attention is drawn away from this famous racetrack apron on up as Mohegan Sun offers a sight to be seen filling the July 3rd night sky at 9:30 p.m. with this free festive display. Rain won’t put a damper on plans as July 6 steps in if the waterworks roll out. Shawnee Mountain Ski Area in East Stroudsburg Considered one of “The Best Shows in the Poconos” Shawnee Mountain Ski Area’s fireworks display is ready to go Saturday, July 5. Gates open 7 p.m. at

$10 a car load so pack them in and head on out for the festivities. The display will begin at approximately 9 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company. Call (570) 4217231 or visit www.shawneemt. com for more info. Skytop Lodge Saturday, July 5 the skies above Skytop add an amazing touch to the resort’s already breathtaking view of the region. Start off with a carnival at 1p.m. with live music, games and more then watch the sunset before soaking in the colorful sights of one of the area’s finest fireworks displays. The carnival ticket price with parking including a trip to the picnic buffet is $30. Parking for fireworks only is $10 per car. For more information call (855) 3457759 Tobyhanna Township Community Day in Pocono Pines Not quite done with that Fourth of July adrenaline rush? Tobyhanna Township is preparing a feast for the eyes in the sky with their Annual Community Day Celebration July 12 at Blanche Price Park in Pocono Pines. Dashing the assumption fireworks are saved merely for Independence Day, a concept growing in popularity, the day of festivities including music, food and fun starts at 2 p.m. winding down with this nighttime send off at dusk. Hopefully, you have already read the article in the Lake Naomi Club newsletter, “Reflections,” that explains ho the Wildlands Conservancy, the Monroe County Open Space Program, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylv nia have created a plan to protect the 1,242 acre Camp Minsi from future development or commercializ tion. Camp Minsi is the Boy Scouts of America property immediately to the east of Lake Naomi that resid along Stillwater Lake. The exact method the property will be protected is not significant. What is significan however, is the fact that all that land will never be developed in competition to Lake Naomi~Timber Trails.
