Audubon Wildlife Art & Craft Festival bringing wildlife to life

Take a step indoors and explore just how cool nature is with the 29th Audubon Wildlife Art & Craft Festival set for July 19 and 20 at Wallenpaupack Area High School in Hawley. Festival Director Dave Fooks describes the experience geared toward cultivating the senses as guests absorb the talents of over 80 exhibiters while they interact with the sights and sounds of various live animal species. What’s the inspiration behind AWACF? Fooks tells, “The festival exists to help educate the public about the environment, as well as, the wildlife in our area. He reports funds raised maintain two area wetlands and provide scholarships along with educational materials for local students and schools. Why celebrate the intertwining of art and wildlife? Considered the “jewel of the event live animal presentations from top wildlife experts in the Northeast including Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Pocono Snake and Animal Farm plus Rizzo’s Reptile Discovery enhance the atmosphere as “wildlife has been the subject of artforms since prehistoric man. He notes Sculpted Ice Works of the Pocono Mountains returns displaying their carving skills; joined by a collection of the Northeast’s finest nature artists and craftsmen displaying photography, leatherwork, various mediums of paint and more! Sponsored by the Northeast Pennsylvania Audubon Society this event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. Admission is $5 with kids under 12 enjoying for free. Shawnee Playhouse Fun for Little Ones

One of the many hats parents don during summer break is Entertainment Coordinator. Whether it’s for the enjoyment of the little ones or a smidgen of a parental sanity saver; to have a plan in place for a fun time rain or shine is crucial. Shawnee Playhouse lends a hand in the effort with another avenue of enjoyment to add to the mix with their Story Time STARS [Shawnee Theatrical Arts Resource School] series now in its 5th year running. Costumed performers take the rein inviting moms and dads to watch or join in as kids enjoy storytelling, face painting, singing and games. Enjoy Grimm’s Fairy Tales’ Rumpelstiltskin, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and more in a 45 minute performance that encourages audience participation as the characters interact with the children bringing them on stage for their time to shine. Show dates are July 19 and 26 with August 2, 9, 16 and 23. Tickets are $10. Reserve tickets by calling Shawnee Playhouse Box Office at (570) 421-5093 or online at www.theshawneeplayhouse.com
