The Pocono Chicken Wing-Off Returns! It’s back and hotter than ever! The 18th Annual Pocono Chicken Wing-Off, benefiting Monroe County Meals on Wheels, will take place on Sunday, August 11 on the festival grounds of Shawnee Mountain Ski Area. Attracting several thousand wing lovers each year, the Pocono Chicken Wing-Off is the region’s largest wing event and the single largest annual fundraiser for Monroe County Meals on Wheels. This year, more than 30 varieties of spicy, savory and smoky wing sauces will be featured at the festival. From noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, guests can enjoy live music, food and craft vendors, children’s entertainment and chicken wing selections from approximately 12 of the region’s most popular restaurants. Wing recipes will be judged in four categories: Chef’s Choice, Most Original, People’s Choice for Hottest Wing and People’s Choice for Best Tasting Wing. Attendees pay as they go for wings, beverages and other food. Proceeds from all wings sold go directly to the Monroe County Meals on Wheels program. Last year, more than 60,000 wings were sold at the Pocono Chicken Wing-Off, generating over $14,000 for the non-profit organization. The 18th Annual Pocono Chicken WingOff will be held through rain or shine. Festival admission and parking are free. For more information, visit www.shawneemt.com or call (570) 421-7231. MCEEC Presents Rain Barrel Scavenger Hunt Twenty beautiful rain barrels, painted by local organizations and artists of all ages, are on display throughout the Boroughs of Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg. Seek out the funky, functional barrels during a self-guided scavenger hunt through the Monroe County Conservation District! All are welcome to participate in the District’s upcoming “Retain the Rain” Scavenger Hunt and enter for a chance to win a free, unpainted rain barrel from the Brodhead Creek Regional Authority (BCRA). Interested parties should stop in to Monroe County Conservation District’s Environmental Education Center (MCEEC) between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 3 to pick up instructions and a numbered entry form. Competitors will have the entire month of August to search for the painted barrels, although the tour takes only about two hours to complete. Completed entry forms should be submitted in person to the BCRA booth at Downtown Stroudsburg’s annual Stroudfest celebration on Saturday, August 31. A winning entry form will be selected in a drawing at 5 p.m. For additional information, contact MCEEC at (570) 629-3061, or visit www.mcconservation.org. The Environmental Education Center is located on Running Valley Road near Bartonsville.

Centrally located at the base of Mount Pocono, just minutes from many major attractions, is Carson’s Paradise Riding Stables—the longest-operating and most established riding stable in the Poconos. The scenic mountain destination is open seven days a week with a variety of packages to suit guests of all ages and abilities. First-time riders can enjoy a leisurely hour-long trail ride on the stable’s sprawling grounds while experienced riders traverse the trails on a two-hour walk/jog excursion. All trail rides are lead by professional wranglers and begin with brief instruction and introduction to the stable’s friendly horses. The ranch’s hand-led pony rides are perfect for little cowboys and cowgirls. Seasoned ponies delight young riders during 15-minute strolls around the Pony Corral. Carson’s also offers Buckaroo Birthday Parties for kids. Flexible package options include trail or pony rides, a petting zoo and other exciting activities.
