celebration of early American crafts and skills, Quiet Valley’s 8th Annual Heritage Craft Day August 8, invites visitors to witness the creativity that characterized early Pennsylvania settlers. This handson opportunity introduces weaving, spinning, rug braiding, basket and broom making along with paper cutting (Scherenschnitte). You’ll find Quilling, the unique art of making three-dimensional objects from paper

that’s still popular today, and so much more! There’ll also be a Make & Take area for kids to join in! Calling the event, “A great day of fun, entertainment and education,” Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm’s Deb DiPasquale adds, “People really seem to enjoy the opportunity to see close up how these crafts are made but most

especially they like to try them out for themselves!” Applauding the day as a chance to “Train up heritage crafters of for the future,” she comments, “It would be a shame for these skills to be lost.” Heritage Craft Day activities are scheduled 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine with farm tours to 5.

Picnic with Pocono T

unkhannock Township Playground and Pavilion in Long Pond comes alive with one wild evening of educational fun Sunday, August 9 courtesy of the Nature Conservancy’s Hauser Nature Center. As Yogi might suggest... pack your pic-a-nic baskets and head on over to enjoy an evening with Pocono Wildlife at this community friendly gathering starting 5 p.m. with presentation at 6.

then released back into the wild.

Should inclement weather threaten this outdoor excursion, no worries... things will be moved indoors to the Conservancy’s Hauser Nature Center. Pre-registration is not required. For more details call the Nature Conservancy at 570-643-7922.

Look who’s coming to dinner...Kathy and Eric Uhler of Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center along with a few critters. While they won’t be dining, they’re surely entertaining as the duo delivers details on some of these injured and orphaned animals cared for

n July 1965 one of the first harness racing tracks in Pennsylvania opened its doors— Pocono Downs. Thousands of fans were on hand cheering as Satin Queen became the first horse to cross Pocono Downs’ finish line on that sultry summer night. Today, that track, now known as The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, continues to host exhilarating harness racing several nights a week from March through November. To honor the past and look to the future, The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono celebrates its Golden Anniversary with a week of events for racing fans and the community alike.

The celebration kicks off on Saturday, August 15th with a Budweiser Clydesdales special Meet and Greet event with fans. Photos are $5.00 and all proceeds will be donated to Marley’s Mission, an organization that provides free equine-based therapy to children that have experienced trauma. On Friday, August 21st the night begins with the Legends Race featuring drivers from the past fifty years competing in a thrilling race, with a percentage of their purse donated to their favorite charity. Immediately after racing, enjoy a free concert on the track apron featuring The Fellas, a tribute to Motown, and Encorz, a tribute to The Supremes.

Saturday, August 22nd starts off with an exciting guest dropping by--former Major League Baseball player and manager Pete Rose, who will be visiting for autographs and photos with the crowd. Then the action shifts back to the track for the return of the $2.3 Million Super Stakes Saturday. Immediately following the stellar racing card, at approximately 10:45pm, will be a spectacular fireworks display to cap a tremendous week of events.
