LAWS ‘N’ PAWS—a unique animal experience tucked away in the beautiful mountainesque scenery surrounding Lake Ariel has been welcoming generations of guests for over 40 years. Using the term “guests” loosely, the popular Wild Animal Park recently welcomed two new arrivals July 28—Rashmi and Devika.

“Little Goddess” pack a lot of energy into tiny packages. When they’re not following their feline instincts pacing the perimeter of their enclosure, they’re tumbling around one another enjoying the attention of onlookers.

A little furry, plenty playful and ready to call the park home, these magnificent snow leopard cubs are an absolute eyeful! Just under 10 pounds Rashmi “Ray of Sunlight” and Devika

Claws co-founders Vince and Bobbi Hall consider the pair “adorable.” Telling sights were set on adding the cubs for some time. “I said I am going to get us some snow leopards,” tells Bobbi admitting the typical place to find her husband Vince in recent days is right by their side as he has with all the animals. Offering the not so typical zoo visit, Claws’ exhibits place guests face to face with a diverse collection of over 130 entertaining animals.

Emily Mathis all laughs as Lory Parrots perch for their feast

“We wanted to make it as natural as we could,” says Vince

describing the 30+ acre Pocono Mountains facility. Comforting shaded trails compliment the amazing animal sights throughout the zoo. One of his favorite exhibits, the Lory Parrot Feeding Area invites kids and adults alike to “Ring the dinner bell” with a daily meal for an assortment of colorful winged wonders.

This Week in the Poconos

The Agosta family visiting from Duchess County considers “Interacting with the animals,” mixed with “CLAWS ‘N’ PAWS rustic natural feel” the draw that brought them back for a repeat visit. Mom Lori agrees joining husband Dave and daughter Brianna “Up close” with the other Lorys (parrots that is) is tops. Ready to head over to catch the “Keeper Connection” and learn more about those clever cubs, Emily Mathis hurries along with sis Abby joined by mom and dad, Marci and Steve. The New Jersey family vacationing near Bushkill admits they were eager to see the sights with a post parrot feeding crossed of their list of to-do’s.

Brianna Agosta takes center stage alongside Lory Parrots with mom Lori and dad Dave by her side

Welcoming all to enjoy the unique CLAWS ‘N’ PAWS experience 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 0daily now through mid-October, the Wild Animal Park’s GPS Address is 1475 Ledgedale Road, Lake Ariel, PA 18436.

Series

An important craft in early America, Chair Caning is still popular today. A bit of background courtesy of QV: “Some chair seat bottoms and stools were woven with rush. Eventually as imported products became easier to procure cane from trees in Asia was used and the seats were referred to as caned. The Shakers were known for using strips of “tape”, sometimes in two different colors, to create a checkerboard pattern on seat bottoms and chair backs.”

Bobin Lace Thursday, August 20 A skill brought from the old country that was used primarily on clothing for the wealthy. QV entwines history Bobin Lace expression including: “Lace making was often taught in poor houses and orphanages so that the folks in those institutions would be able to make a living and not be a drain on society. Making bobbin lace for sale was often a cottage industry. It was work that could be done in the winter months, when there was less work to do outdoors on the farm.”

now days— time to create memories. A time for celebration. A time for friends. A time to capture that succinct sense of carefree fun. August 16 this endearing expression bears no seasonal limitation with Barley Creek Brewing Company gearing up to host another monumental turnout for Mady’s Snow Day. Park it in BCBC’s Pintsize Park from 1 to 11 p.m. for an afternoon benefit in memory of Madyson Law.

Keeping in line with the young girl’s ambitions of “Compassion and selflessness” by contributing her time to area causes, Mady’s Angels was formed and with that Mady’s Snow Day evolved. This effort in the cache of MA deeds invites all to enjoy a good time while raising funds for area organizations. A lineup of stellar musicians is set to take the stage including the Maybabies, Solution a.d., Strawberry Jam and other awesome

area performers. Barley Creek’s outrageously amazing BBQ and libations mixed with fun for all, makes for one sensational afternoon. So eat, drink and be merry with family friendly games, a climbing wall, inflatables and more and ignite all around community spirit—it’s the Mady’s Snow Day way! Cover admission is $10 with halfprice admission until 5 p.m. Kids under 5 are free.
