Goods, Games and Garlic at Shawnee Mountain It’s a legendary local favorite with a kick! The 19th annual Pocono Garlic Festival will take root at the Shawnee Mountain Ski Area on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1. Featuring a variety of goods, games, music and more, this year’s festival is bursting with garlic-themed fun for everyone! More than 50 vendors will present garlic-filled food, drinks, craft items and novelties. Featured dishes include garlic-infused soups, dips, sauces and even desserts! In addition to the dazzling dishes, there will be live entertainment on two outdoor stages, a children’s activity area and an education tent. This year’s event will also feature artisan demonstrations, strolling entertainers, garlicgrowing seminars, wildlife presentations and two rounds of the now-famous Garlic Eating Contest. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the gate. Parking is free. For more information and a complete schedule of events, visit www.poconogarlic.com or call (570) 421-7231. Shawnee Mountain Ski Area is located off I-80 on Hollow Road in Shawnee-on-Delaware.

Liberty Homes Hosts Community Picnic On Sunday, August 18, State Representative Mario M. Scavello, 176th District, joined 200 guests, including 150 homeowners, at Blanche Price Park in Pocono Pines to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Liberty Homes, an award-winning home builder of the greater Pocono Mountains Region. The old-fashioned summer picnic featured plenty of food, fun and fellowship, with a bounty of raffle prizes, photo opportunities, cake, and children’s activities. More than building homes, attendees spoke of the community that Liberty Homes has helped them create among new and seasoned friends. This event was the third picnic Liberty Homes has held for its homeowners. New homeowner Joseph Sciabica, who is building a Liberty Home with his fiancée, said, “The picnic is a great way to meet other people in the ‘family.’” John Holahan, State Rep. Mario Scavello, Frank Repholz, Jr. State Representative Scavello presented Liberty Homes’ principals John Holahan and Frank Repholz Jr. with a proclamation for 35 years in business. “Liberty Homes has persevered and maintained its edge through the housing downturn,” said Scavello. Liberty Homes has remained flexible, tweaking and changing with consumer demand, and remaining competitive and viable. “Value, service, and innovative design such as ‘senior-friendly’ Universal Design, plus savings with energy efficiency are elements driving consumer wants and needs,” said Holahan. Liberty Homes also remodels existing homes with adaptable floor plans, fixtures and overall design for adaptable senior-friendly living. Founded in 1978, Liberty Homes Custom Builders has been chosen by thousands of homeowners who desire an award-winning, year-round, vacation or retirement home in the Greater Pocono Region.
