Folk Music Phenom T
he Pocono Folk Festival— produced by Jim Della Croce of Pathfinder Productions and presented by ESSA Bank & Trust, thrusts attendees into a journey of amazing entertainment 11a.m. to 10:30 p.m. September 15 on the lawn of the Castle Inn stage in Delaware Water Gap “We are excited to help bring wonderful, live music to the Poconos,” beams Gary Olson, President & CEO of ESSA Bank & Trust adding, “It’s part of what makes the Poconos a vibrant, entertainment-filled place to live, work and visit.” “We’re truly humbled and honored that John [Sebastian] has agreed to kick things off on the good foot as only he can,” declares Della Croce.
“Professor Louie” Hurwitz alongside members of Bob Dylan’s and Van Morrison’s bands. The group, supported by the Woodstock Horns, will perform a full set of classics by The Band closing the show at 9:00p.m. after Sebastian with a rollicking Last Waltz-style finale. Fellow Pocono artist, and record producer Lenny Kaye, best known as the lead guitarist of the Patti Smith group, will also perform a folk acoustic set. Kaye is a Sirius XM DJ on Little Steven’s Underground Garage radio show and celebrated author. Adding to an already astounding assortment of talent, one of jam
band’s favorite sons Delaware Water Gap producer/artist Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth will take the stage with partner Lou Rogai of Lewis & Clarke with their band Cedar Sparks. Along with Nashville folk singer-songwriter Sean Della Croce who’ll play music from her latest album; and Strawberry Jam performing a tribute to The Grateful Dead. Pocono bluegrass favorites, The Lost Ramblers are also on the bill along with local duo Sage. Expanding “It is only appropriate that we launch this historic event with a music icon who is no stranger to the Poconos or the Catskills.” Sharing a glimpse into Sebastian’s history that started in the early 60’s merely 15 miles east of Delaware Water Gap; he details the Blair Academy graduate’s remarkable resume. Closing the decade up-river in Bethel, NY at the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, it was there that he made history performing an impromptu set before 400,000 people! This music legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member was founder, lead singer and primary songwriter of The Lovin’ Spoonful. Performing with the iconic band; he scored an amazing string of seven consecutive Top-10 Billboard hit singles including: “Do You Believe in Magic;” “Summer in the City;” plus “Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind.” Joining Sebastian at the Folk Festival will be The Music of The Band performed by Professor Louie and the Crowmatix– a Woodstock based group led by former Band producer, Aaron
