MAKE TRACKS A

utumn translates to Awesome as a taste of the most spectacular scenery hits the Pocono Mountains with Scranton’s Steamtown National Historic Site ready to guide guests on a diesel-powered journey through this picturesque setting. Amazing photo opportunities await as Fall Foliage Train Excursions are lined up continuing through the month of October. October 4 kicked off the festivities with a special Civil War Train to East Stroudsburg filled with members of Scranton’s DelaneyDelacy Guard, Confederation of the Union Generals, dressed in period regalia. October 11 and 25 delivers even more awe inspired excursions to the area. Departing 9 a.m. then arriving back at SNHS 5:30 p.m.; tickets are $54 for adults, $49 for seniors and $32 for children age 6 to 15.

NPS Photo Ken Ganz Tobyhanna is slated for its own outing scheduled for Sunday, October 12 at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $34 for adults, $29 for seniors and $22 for children. Light snacks will be sold at the station by Coolbaugh Historical Association to tide guests over until their 3:30 p.m. return to Scranton.

This Week in the Poconos

Trips to Moscow for October continue the 18th and 26th. Trains depart Steamtown’s boarding platform at 12:30 p.m. on the 26th, then another makes tracks 1:00 p.m. on the 18th. A return time of 4 p.m. is expected for each day. Light refreshments will be available during layovers. Tickets are $24 for adults, $22 for seniors and $17 for kids age 5 and up. Delaware Water Gap is October 19’s destination including a 2 1/2 hour layover to enjoy the scenic splendor. Leaving at 9 a.m. with a 5:00 p.m. return; tickets are $54 for adults, $49 for

But there’s always room for spectators to cheer on these amazing athletes as they take on the 26 miles course starting at 8:00 a.m. Friday, October 17 through Sunday, October 19: Hawley Harvest Hoedown, Downtown Hawley. One of the most popular events in the lake region, the HHH features fall festive activities, food and entertainment. New to the Hoedown this year is a Folk & BlueGrass Concert hosted at the Ritz Theater. Saturday, October 18: Bonfire at the Scranton Iron Furnaces, Scranton, (570)963-4804, www. visitnepa.org. Benefitting the Anthracite Heritage Museum explores the roots of Halloween in Celtic Culture and other autumn festivals highlighting NEPA’s industrial past. Enjoy Timber Team Lumberjack Shows, chainsaw sculpture demonstrations, and high-flying fun from the dogs of the Marvelous Mutts. Pocono Vertical Ventures invites festival guests to “go vertical” with a jump platform, two climbing walls and three bungee trampolines. The Pocono Food Truck festival welcomes all to savor the tastes of over 15 regional food trucks the weekend of October 18 and 19 with gates opening just in time for lunch at 11a.m. each day. Sights, sounds and sensational fun compliment this celebration of transportable culinary talents including FMX Motocross and Monster Trucks! Make no mistake; there will be live music and plenty of scrumptious food both weekends. TF starts with the Cramer Brothers Band lighting up the stage Saturday with the Liz Nordstrom Trio taking over Sunday. PFTF serves up the Jim Roberti Trio and Talking Machine.

Slopeside seating is available for all live shows. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. One and two day tickets for each of these 2014 fall festivals can be purchased in advance or at the gate. Parking is free.
