his Week’s tip comes from our dear friend Patrice at Cooks Tour in Mountainhome—THE go-to guru of culinary to-do’s! One cup of sifted flour is not the same as 1 cup of flour sifted?

If the word sifted appears before the word flour in the recipe, then you sift before measuring; but if it says 1 cup flour sifted, you sift after measuring.

A Fond Adieu W

hether you love to cook, or simply love to eat, Cooks Tour has served as a top stop in the Pocono Mountains for decades. As this magnificent Mountainhome shop prepares

to bid farewell in the coming months, many reflect on not only the seemingly endless assortment of cooking and baking items, but also the culinary knowledge generously shared. Working 24 years with Cooks Tour before purchasing the business, owner Patrice McGrath reflects on how the store’s unique ware gained popularity and her years of experience. Early on it was apparent classes taught by local chefs from major area resorts would become a well received means of learning how to properly and efficiently

Why Do LeavesChange

I

n warmer months, leaves capture the sun’s energy and turn it into food through a process called photosynthesis, made possible by a pigment called chlorophyll keeping leaves green in the summer. Chlorophyll absorbs sunlight, turning it into the sugars trees need. Yellow and orange pigments, while present, are overpowered by green chlorophyll. As winter approaches, trees shed their leaves to slow moisture evaporation which is difficult to replace when the ground is frozen and may be damaging when water within the leaves freezes and expands. To prepare, trees grow a corky layer that prevents water from entering leaves. Without water, the tree stops making chlorophyll,

and the old chlorophyll fades away. Leaves then unveil those yellow and orange pigments! For red leaves, the explanation differs. The corky layer not only stops water from entering leaves, it also prevents sugars from exiting. When the sun shines on the leaves, the sugars react with a chemical to form a red pigment, with that in mind, a leaf that is in complete shade will thereby not turn red. Capturing the essence of nature’s beautiful transformation is a true Pocono Mountains advantage. Take time to sit back and enjoy this mesmerizing experience today!

ADVANTAGE POINT

eize the opportunity to capture the most stunning, panoramic views, and witness the changing season from a new perspective with Camelback Mountain Resort at the helm offering easy access to the best vantage points high above the treetops. Camelback Mountain Adventure’s TreeTop Flyer Scenic Chairlift, the only scenic sky ride in the Pocono Mountains, takes up to four riders on a steel cable sky ride 800 vertical feet from the valley to the peak of Camelback Mountain. The summit offers spectacular sights of the vibrant autumn foliage and often deer, turkeys and other animals can be seen in the forest below. On clear days, the more than 100-mile expanse takes in the sights of the Poconos all the way to the foothills of the Catskill Mountains in New York. This one-of-a-kind Sky Ride experience is a must for locals and for any outdoor enthusiast visiting the Pocono Mountains. Guests can ride the sky ride back to the valley below or take on more adventure and hike the marked trails back down the slopes of Camelback Mountain. For thrill-seekers and leafpeepers craving a bit more exhilaration, Camelback Mountain Adventures offers a dose of adrenaline that will not soon be forgotten. From PA’s only Alpine Mountain Coaster, 100 aerial obstacle TreeTop Course, and Mountain Segways, to the country’s longest Twin Zip-Flyer that lets riders soar from the top of Camelback Mountain at speeds up to 50MPH! Camelback offers countless adventures all in one stop—THAT’s the CBK ADVantage! For schedules and pricing, visit www.camelbackmountainadventures.com
