Halloween Dramatic Readings, Cemetery Tour at Grey Towers Experience a weekend of wonder at the Grey Towers National Historic Site! The Grey Towers Heritage Association and the U.S. Forest Service at Grey Towers will cosponsor eerie educational events on Saturday and Sunday, October 26 and 27. On Saturday, it’s a night of nineteenth-century entertainment as the American Readers Theatre Company presents “Forevermore: A Tribute to Edgar Allan Poe.” The Halloween Dramatic Readings, featuring theatrical adaptations of four works by Poe, will take place at 6 p.m. in the Great Hall. An 8 p.m. performance will be added when the first show sells out. Tickets are $20 per person. Dramatic readings were a common form of entertainment for nineteenth-century families, and the Pinchot family, original residents of Grey Towers, kept several of Poe’s works in their personal library. The U.S. Forest Service re-creates these events at Grey Towers as part of its Conservation and the Arts program, and as a way of preserving the Pinchot Family’s tradition of community hospitality. On Sunday, October 27, a Cemetery Walk will highlight the undressed fieldstones and elaborate obelisks of the Laurel Hill Cemetery—Milford’s original town graveyard on the grounds of Grey Towers. The walking tour will begin at 1:30 p.m. Interested parties should wear sturdy shoes and meet at the site’s Visitor Pavilion. Pre-registration is suggested. Regular tour fees apply. Tickets for the Halloween Dramatic Readings can be purchased online at www.greytowers.org. For additional information, e-mail info@greytowers.org or call (570) 296-9625. The Grey Towers National Historic Site is located off Old Owego Turnpike in Milford.

Murder Mystery Weekend at the French Manor Mysterious characters rendezvous in South Sterling during biannual Murder Mystery Weekends at The French Manor Inn and Spa. For three days and two nights, mystery, mayhem and murder rule the retreat as guests become the cast of players in an elaborate charade. From Friday, November 15 through Sunday, November 17, the Inn will present “CSI North Pole”- A Murder Mystery by Jill Reading. Fantasy characters from around the world will convene at the French Manor to answer this pressing question: Where in the world is Santa? Registered guests receive character information approximately two weeks prior to arrival. More mysterious clues will be divulged at check in. The French Manor’s Murder Mystery Weekends include a welcome wine and cheese party on Friday night, a full country breakfast each morning, a Murder Mystery Party with live music and Mystery Cocktail Party on Saturday evening, a gourmet dinner on Saturday night, prizes during Sunday breakfast, and access to all of the Inn’s amenities. Interested parties should call (877) 720-6090 for availability. For additional information, visit www.thefrenchmanor.com. One of the most serenely beautiful locales in the Pocono Mountains, the French Manor Inn and Spa is located on Huckleberry Road atop Huckleberry Mountain in South Sterling.
