Holiday Cheer at Hawley Winterfest
Historic Hawley proudly presents its annual pre-holiday celebration, Hawley Winterfest Friday, December 6 through Sunday, December 8. Now in its 15th year, this enchanting occasion honors the community’s Victorian roots with a weekend of warm winter fun for all. The Lake Region comes alive with the sights and sounds of the season as displays, presentations and family-friendly activities beckon visitors from near and far. This year’s schedule is rich with performances, exhibitions, culinary experiences and joyful gatherings. There will be caroling, carriage rides, great shopping, tours and tastings all weekend long. Friday’s festivities include a mélange of music and merriment while Saturday boasts a spectrum of sales, seminars, demos and displays. Featured events include the 12th Annual Cookie Walk and Victorian Luncheon, the Holiday House Tour, book signings, Beer Tours, the Holiday Artisans’ Fair, and a new Winter Wellness, Wine and Wonderment afternoon at the Roots Yoga studio. Sunday fun features the traditional Boat House Breakfast with Santa, Winterfest Brunch at the Settlers Inn, and the annual Ritz Christmas Show. A complete schedule of events is available online at www.hawleywinterfest.com. Most events are free of charge; advance purchase or pre-registration may be required for certain attractions. For details, call the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center at (570) 226-2141. Hawley Winterfest is presented by the Downtown Hawley Partnership.

Quiet Valley’s Old Time Christmas The holiday season is a time for traditions. From music made to meals shared, many of our winter celebrations reflect the customs and beliefs of our ancestors. Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm invites you to begin a new tradition with your family during Old Time Christmas 2013. Holiday habits of years gone by come alive on the peaceful winter farm tours. The gentle glow of lantern light illuminates the land as scenes, songs and samples portray old world customs. The tours begin around a crackling bonfire, where perioddressed guides await. Each tranquil journey comprises scenes from a Victorian holiday celebration, a living nativity, and a simple log cabin homestead. Re-enactors brilliantly capture the joy and excitement of the season, sharing stories, songs and scenes of good cheer. Christmas carols ring from the one-room schoolhouse, and the Belschnikel, a traditional Pennsylvania-German holiday figure, greets children from his post in the farmhouse. Tours conclude in the Engel Education Building, where festive refreshments sweeten the affair. Quiet Valley’s Old Time Christmas is held annually on the first two weekends of December. Tours will be offered on Saturdays and Sundays, December 7, 8, 14 and 15 from 3 to 7 p.m. Groups depart every 15 minutes. Reservations are requested for parties of 12 or more. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages three through 12. Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm is located on Quiet Valley Road in Stroudsburg.
